thanks tommywho924, especially for taking time to read that long question lol. but well i'm used to one method now and the other seems a bit harder, obviously after a while of trying that, it'd be vice versa. i'm asking which is more effective? or is there not much difference?
I am having trouble with dumbbell flys because it gives me a little joint pain. Dumbbell press (on floor) and pushups are not enough to give me a huge pump. Are there any other excercises for the chest but with dumbbells?
another great and useful vid. have a kinda wierd question: in an exercise, is the quality of the rep A LOT more important than the quantity?
i mean for eg: if you do pull ups. lets say 4 sets of 18, but those 18 you go all the way up on the 1st rep , and the rest you just quickly go a bit down and up (like a half rep hehe) for the other 17. now is it better to do this, or 4 sets of say 7 reps but do them properly, all the way down, and all the way up?(but notice how much less the reps are)
Sir, I wanna know if soy bean is a good source of protein or not?? Will it help bulking up??Coz i wanna be a vegetarian,so will i not be able to add mass then??

I got 4 abs but the part below the belly button is sticking out. seems like my stomach has 2 parts. just need more time or am i doing something wrong. Dose anybody have more information on that.
I have jujst question about innies and outies.. I have been doing them and I found out that I'm very much stronger in the innies than the outies, the weight im using is 3.5lbs, and i can do only 27 outies(3secs up, 3 secs down). But, when I do innies, ican do 55-60 of them with the same weight =E Should I use a bit more weight with the innies than outies, or use less weight with outies? Thank you. =)
I've just got 1 question about your videos , In your nutrition video you say that it's wrong counting calories , but in another video you recommend "Lose It" , the iPhone application that counts calories. I don't really get it ^^
I do not recommend counting calories but you MUST know the nutrient content of all the foods you eat so you can choose the foods wisely. If you know your nutritional information (quick, how many calories in a half cup of cottage cheese), then you dont need to count calories because you will know that you CANT eat regular cottage cheese because of its high fat content. For those that dont know the nutritional info of foods, counting calories is the other option.
I feel the need to tell you that I have a great deal of respect for you.

I have downloaded the simple 30 min workout, killer home arm workout, killer home lat workout, 5 shoulder exercises, and Ab Workout 6 pack abs. I might substitute the exercises in the 30 min with the other ones, but I will remember the importance of cardio..(contd.)
hey scooby, im a teen(15 years) and as you know im not allowed to eat protein powder, so what do suggest is a alternative to that which i can eat everyday-i do strengh endurance exercises

@ Evilcyber The beginner's plan is really easy for me even thought i have not train my self for years my body is pretty good , i dont know why . I did the intermediate plan yesterday and barely , but i did it even thought today im sore everywhere xD
@ Darengedmonkey666 Yeah ... im following Scoobys Intermediate plan and its like that ... cabrio then weights cabrio then weights . So the Sore that i feel is nothing huh ?
Whatever works for you. Just make sure you use good form, give muscle groups sufficient rest, use slow movements and listen to any complaints your body might give you.
Scooby you are awesome! Since watching your videos i've taken my lifting seriously, it's only been about 3weeks and already i'm seeing good progress. Your videos are very inspiring and insightful. I can't thank you enough dude!
I use alot of your workout routines and they're very effective, however most of them are upper body oriented- and i feel i haven't been working out my lower body enough, as im sure alot of people aren't. If you posted an introductory complete leg workout that can be done with common household equipment that trains hamstrings, quads, abductor and adductor thighs that would be a tremendous help. thanks!
hey scooby i need to get in good shape for football and i heard that long distance jogging and walking makes you slower can uphill sprints or a bunch of sprints ok to get conditioned? or would it not work well? any help is greatly appreciated thanks man.
ok, This is wayyy of topic, im sorry.. :( could not find any other vid to post on.., i got a friend who tells me that when i start doing my home gym session to start off with Dumbbells then to go barbell..
but instead i do is.. 10-12 min warm up then i do is 3 sets of 10 reps of barbell.. then dumbbells.. is that fine?? (sorry if its a stupid Question..)
hey scooby i read ur reply to another dedicated viewer of ur videos and i was amazed to hear u only spend 6hrs a week making these videos and reply etc. Ur amazing man, looking that good being in such great shape, having a family and full time job, how do u do it? what gives u that drive to work so hard? i work out 6days a week, injury free for a long time touch wood but this vid is great for when or if i do come down with an injury. my drive is cos i wana be the best at everything. wot about u?
i love you man..scoob my left shoulder has sum pain..itz not major..but um worried dat if it gets intense..DUMBELL FLYS have caused it..um scared 2 do it now..wht shud do?..i think did it wrongly
hey i have another question (sorry if i'm annoying you); its regarding nutrition. do i have to count calories all the time to have good nutrition? i always count protein since i need it for working out but counting the calories and measuring all the time really gets quite annoying. any suggestions? thanks for all your help man i really appreciate it
You are this close to having recommend reading the article on bigorexia on Scooby's site ;)
No, you don't have to count the calories like this if you don't want to lose more weight and control that through counting calories.
Personally I check my weight regularly and have set a boundary I don't want to cross. If I come close to it I just eat some less until the weight is back where I want it.
ahah dont worry man, i know scoobys website inside and out. i've read all of his articles including the one on bigorexia. i'm just really paranoid and desperate to get to 6% body fat. the other day i checked in mirror and im supposed to be on schedule with 7% body fat but from what i saw in the mirror i unno if i am. like my abs show but there's just this really soft layer of fat that makes me paranoid and frustrated. i worked so hard for months to get to where i am now.
Great video (like all your videos). I currently have a bit of tendonitis in my right forearm. I'm thinking of getting some straps to help take the pressure off my hands when doing lats. Do you think that would help? I'm not sure which exersise I'm doing that is causing the problem but I think it's either the pull ups or the tricep extensions. Right now I just work through the pain but I'm concerned that if I keep doing that it will never go away (or get worse).
scooby about 3 months ago i got hit by a car and i have a fractured spine, my back hardly bothers me but do you think its safe to still do arm and chest workouts?
i just watched ur nutrition movie(s). in think they are great. but do you think its possible to make some kind of nutritrion movie for GAINING weight also? would be great.. thx
Well, this is ALL about gaining weight, but about gaining weight from muscle.
If you want to gain weight from fat, then calculate your BMR + energy used for daily tasks and eat more than that - you will become fatter. One lb of fat is is app. 3000 cal.
Scooby I have been wanting to do the clean and jerk or C&J and deadlifts but I don't know how to incorparate them into my workout plan any ideas and can you make a video for the C&J?
P.S. been using your workout pland for 7 to 8 months and i have incredible results ill show you sometime later for the success section of your websight. thanks for everything scooby.
Hey scooby. i mostly just want to thank you for all your great videos and this new amazing quality on the newer videos. You are a great inspiration for me and also helping me finding out some new helpful exercises. im in my 8th month now and it feels great.
i was just wondering about something, im a light guy. 64 kilos or so, (166 lbs maybe)? and 1,78cm. how "bad" would it be for me to eat a big mac or 2 in emergency (instead of eating nothing)?
Well, why not have something more healthy than a Big Mac? You know, there was a time when we just brought the whole wheat bread we prepared at home to school or work.
What you eat can either be "empty" calories or something that your body benefits from. I'd go for the latter.
Scooby, I have a question. I have had mono for about 7 weeks now and im am finally starting to feel myself again, but i had to stop lifting to recover from the mono. I have lost about 10-12lbs. What do you recommend I do to get myself back to where i was?
I don't know he does it, but that's how most do it.
I personally do a 15-20 min cardio warm up before I lift to get my heart rate up . After I lift I'llI do 30 min of cardio at a lower intensity to cool down!!!
awesome quality Scoob, and great tips, I too, suffer from joint pain and have had damaged joints in the past. This video gives a great explanation as to how to get around those pesky problems, awesome vid.
Hey scooby, sort of off topic but in your video: What is good cardio? - you recommend jump rope, and I want to ask you, how can you jump rope for 20 minutes without dying? I tried and start doing it but after 1-2 minutes I almost passed out. I jumped with medium intensity with both legs, but I still can't imagine how you can jump for 20 minutes. You have to take breaks but even so it's still intense and it falls in the "interval training" thing. Can you please clarify this?
one of his vids shows what is good cardio, have a search thru his vids. Skipping is intense.
If u really like skipping do ur 1 minute then move onto another cardio activity with no rest.
there is always walking, running, swimming, bike riding, shadow boxing, bag work. Whatever you enjoy.
the most important part is keeping ur heart rate elevated to the appropriate level depending on ur age and fitness level... check scooby's video for more details on that.
NO it didn't help. My question was why would he recommend something intense like jump rope and how you do it if so without falling into the "interval training". But you just repeated what I said without answering my question.
There are zillions of ways to screw up your knees and shoulders and how you work around complicated injuries like that is different for each injury type. There is no way to diagnose such a problem over the internet, heck, doctors sometimes have trouble diagnosing the problems with the help of MRIs! You need to make an appointment and have it looked at and then ask for a physical therapy perscription to help you work around it.
if you have a pull up bar you can just hang from there for ten seconds or so. My dad uses a thing called an " Inversion Table " Both work very well, ive tried them and they really stretch the spine
Lower back injuries are not easily worked around and can be serious. Thats definitely one to talk to your doctor about. Whatever you do make sure to avoid any jerky bouncy motions as that will most certainly mess up your back.
hey Scooby, i think there is one more way that you could use the abs straps to do lateral raises and front raises to work out your shoulders. But how would you work out your biceps and triceps in this situation? that is what I have been thinking about.
Hi scooby. first let me say i am a big fan of yours and this is the first comment i leave on youtube. second - i have a question which is bothering me and i would like to hear your opinion. its about doing cardio right after weight training. i am doing intense 30 min weights and right after 45 min of cardio. is that a bad thing doing cardio right after weights? i saw mixed opinions of it on the internet and would really like to hear you opinion. thanks a lot for your amazing videos!
Great video(s), thanks for the creative advice. Not relevant but I have a question. I love doing pullovers, most people do it on their chest days. However, it feels like more of a lat exercise. First of all, it's a pull motion like all lat exercises, we do pushing type of exercises for chest. Secondly, when you think of the movement itself, it is similar to narrow-grip pulldowns more than anything else. Yeah you feel chest too but many lat exercises involve a bit of chest anyway. Any suggestion?
I'm with you Stupdityrant, I classify pullovers as a lat exercise (and abs). Some people *claim* it expands the rib cage but I dont believe it any more than I believe that you can get taller by hanging upside down. :)
Another myth I've heard about pullovers is "it pulls your chest muscles up and give them better firm shape", i never believed that. People told me if I wanted to do it on my lats day, I should do it with a barbell and wider grip because a narrow grip makes it a chest exercise. But again, I think it's like pulldowns; a close grip makes us feel arms and chest more so a wide grip might be better for outer lats but the other way is still not a chest exercise.
I really like your vids how you say and explain, better than others do for a price. But let me just tell what I noticed first day. I think your phisique is great, especially for your age. But your neck is sort of underdeveloped in comparison (though not in itself maybe). Any reason? The neck is a bodypart too, important especially in combat contests or anyway worth working it out to make it stronger, to prevent injuries or for the elder age. You don't consider it much in your videos... . A fan
what would be an acceptable quantity of "grace days" for allowing yourself to have a chocolate bar or some other treat.....like once a week....and how many calories?
yeah i guess you're right...i'm juist really worried to not screw up these last 2 weeks. the past 7 months thanks to you scooby through hard work and dedication i've went down from 20% body fat to where im currently sitting at about 7.5%! i just wish i could find the cable to my camera so i could plug it in and send u some before and after pics for your success stories page. i cant thank you enough for your inspiration. got about 2 weeks left to get down to 6% body fat. thank you again!
iI agreed whit you but,when..for exsample;when you make training your blood presure is high(right) u got pain(you grounded for long time)..your arm be more vigilance for pain even touch.I think bether is wait till pain is gone. You goin foward with making vid..do u.
2:53 i don't think it's a good idea while injured...
It sure depands on what kind of injury BUT if you for example broke the part of arm that you covered in the video and you are making the exercise just as you did in your vid, all of your hands muscles are working anyway, and if it's a fresh bone brake, the muscles can move bone in crack area and you'll see a doctor again for the same resone...
So i won't be so sure about it and it's resonable to ask your doctor 1st...
Hey scooby, I was wondering about alchohol. How would this effect your muscles if any? Is it safe to drink without worrying about messing up nutrition? Thanks and great videos
alcohol stops your muscles from building because it dehydrates your body (ur muscles need water to expand). also if you drink too much ur muscles get damaged =/
alcohol is empty clories. If you are already ripped and have 8-pack abs you can have a bit of alcolol. If you are trhing to add muscle and lose fat then its verboten
I just want to thank you for puting this vidoes up! U have realy inspierd me tp start train, now i train 30 minutes everyday. Gonna do more when i get older, but at the moment i'm just 14.
Thanx to you i got diecent breast and arm muscels and a 6 pac.
Hey Scoob, I injured my rotator cuffsin both shoulders. I didn't realize what I had done, so by the time I got into have them looked at the Dr. said he would prefer not operate to re-attatch as the muscle or tendons had shrunk back to about the clavical on both sides. He felt to stretch it far enough to re-attatch, it would only permanantly tear it the rest of the way. I left it go dormant fro a cpl years. How can I work my shoulders back up? Can I
I think I may have a elbow injury/tendon injury but it only comes through when doing palm faced up bicep workouts so I have refrained from doing anything heavy in that way. Does anyone have an idea of the specific injury.
Injuries are really frustrating. Just had a minor shoulder injury in the gym which is still healing. I did manage to go to the gym and have a light workout once in a while, though my shoulder hurt quite a bit. Better safe than sorry!
Are there any injuries that I can do if I injured my abs? I have an inguinal hernia and will have surgery on it next week. I'd like to continue to exercise while I recover. Are there any exercises I can do that won't put strain on my abs?
Not really mate just try and get your rest after the operation....the most you can as possible...after your recovery just go all out on your abs...thats the best tip I can give my my mom just got the same operation and hey Its just best if you just chill for a while....what you can do is do alot of walking, but at your own paste dont try to over do it
Hernia surgery? Make sure and ask your doctor what you can and cant do afterward. Ask the Dr when you can start stationary bike and dumbbell exercises. Only the Dr knows the extent of the surgery and only they can answer what your rehab should look like.
thanks scooby for a vid. i had my right arm injured 2 times but before i worked out with my left arm legs and other excirsizes that i didnt had to use my injured arm
my shoulder is kinda messed and i dont think its a muscle problem cause it still hurts after like a month. i can curl weights but i cant do one push up because the pain in my shoulder is pretty bad. what should i do? how can i work out my shoulder..?
This video is about working *arond* injuries, not working injuries. if you have shoulder problems then you cant workout your shoulders. Do what you you can but avoid exercises that cause pain in the shoulder. Joint pain is ALWYAS bad
I know this is unrelated to your movie's topic, but I have a question about your nutrition suggestions. I have a really laborious job and I feel like I should increase the amount of carbs, or total calories in each of my meals. Do you think this is a good idea, or should I keep the carbs the same and solely the protein to add on muscle from my workouts...or on second thought will not having sufficient carbs start stealing into my protein...thoughts?
To get your questions answered, please go to the "AskScooby" Forum, there is a link on my website!

Scooby, what do you think about full-body workouts?
I tried to split my routine, but I hate feeling only one muscle working.
I think a full body routine is as good as a split for gaining (I did a lot of research) provided we use good form and as heavy as we can.
I also think it can be good to prevent injuries.
What's your opinion?

Leave your shoulder alone, especially when using pain relievers - you effectively are turning off your body's warning system.
Instead work out your lower body and do cardio. Otherwise you might end up with a shoulder that puts you out of bodybuilding forever.

@ Evilcyber The beginner's plan is really easy for me even thought i have not train my self for years my body is pretty good , i dont know why . I did the intermediate plan yesterday and barely , but i did it even thought today im sore everywhere xD

Thanks

Yeh that should be fine, as long as you work out effectively per workout then it doesnt matter in what order your exercises come.

hey i have another question (sorry if i'm annoying you); its regarding nutrition. do i have to count calories all the time to have good nutrition? i always count protein since i need it for working out but counting the calories and measuring all the time really gets quite annoying. any suggestions? thanks for all your help man i really appreciate it
michaelzwarszawy 2 years ago
I think you should make a meal plan during the week-end and stick to it for some time.
It's the same for everybody, you have to check and measure your portion sizes.
You can't get rid of it...
;););)
liberator1986 2 years ago
You are this close to having recommend reading the article on bigorexia on Scooby's site ;)
No, you don't have to count the calories like this if you don't want to lose more weight and control that through counting calories.
Personally I check my weight regularly and have set a boundary I don't want to cross. If I come close to it I just eat some less until the weight is back where I want it.
Evilcyber 2 years ago
ahah dont worry man, i know scoobys website inside and out. i've read all of his articles including the one on bigorexia. i'm just really paranoid and desperate to get to 6% body fat. the other day i checked in mirror and im supposed to be on schedule with 7% body fat but from what i saw in the mirror i unno if i am. like my abs show but there's just this really soft layer of fat that makes me paranoid and frustrated. i worked so hard for months to get to where i am now.
michaelzwarszawy 2 years ago
Great video (like all your videos). I currently have a bit of tendonitis in my right forearm. I'm thinking of getting some straps to help take the pressure off my hands when doing lats. Do you think that would help? I'm not sure which exersise I'm doing that is causing the problem but I think it's either the pull ups or the tricep extensions. Right now I just work through the pain but I'm concerned that if I keep doing that it will never go away (or get worse).

i just watched ur nutrition movie(s). in think they are great. but do you think its possible to make some kind of nutritrion movie for GAINING weight also? would be great.. thx
gilenfall11 2 years ago
Well, this is ALL about gaining weight, but about gaining weight from muscle.
If you want to gain weight from fat, then calculate your BMR + energy used for daily tasks and eat more than that - you will become fatter. One lb of fat is is app. 3000 cal.

Hey scooby. i mostly just want to thank you for all your great videos and this new amazing quality on the newer videos. You are a great inspiration for me and also helping me finding out some new helpful exercises. im in my 8th month now and it feels great.
i was just wondering about something, im a light guy. 64 kilos or so, (166 lbs maybe)? and 1,78cm. how "bad" would it be for me to eat a big mac or 2 in emergency (instead of eating nothing)?
and thx again for your amazing vids, love ya
gilenfall11 2 years ago
Well, why not have something more healthy than a Big Mac? You know, there was a time when we just brought the whole wheat bread we prepared at home to school or work.
What you eat can either be "empty" calories or something that your body benefits from. I'd go for the latter.
You btw weigh 141 lbs.
Evilcyber 2 years ago
Scooby, I have a question. I have had mono for about 7 weeks now and im am finally starting to feel myself again, but i had to stop lifting to recover from the mono. I have lost about 10-12lbs. What do you recommend I do to get myself back to where i was?
xLeGeNd40x 2 years ago
Your body IS still recovering and how far it has gotten along is hard to say from here.
Personally I'd go for high reps, low weight and over the course of weeks go back to the level of weight and reps from before the illness.

hey scooby, is it good to workout twice? for example: one workout without weights, then rest for another workout with weights?
Bb0i4L1fE 2 years ago
I don't know he does it, but that's how most do it.
I personally do a 15-20 min cardio warm up before I lift to get my heart rate up . After I lift I'llI do 30 min of cardio at a lower intensity to cool down!!!

Can you please clarify this?
gigel2006 2 years ago
one of his vids shows what is good cardio, have a search thru his vids. Skipping is intense.
If u really like skipping do ur 1 minute then move onto another cardio activity with no rest.
there is always walking, running, swimming, bike riding, shadow boxing, bag work. Whatever you enjoy.
the most important part is keeping ur heart rate elevated to the appropriate level depending on ur age and fitness level... check scooby's video for more details on that.
hope that helps you
Wiinajamizzi 2 years ago
NO it didn't help. My question was why would he recommend something intense like jump rope and how you do it if so without falling into the "interval training". But you just repeated what I said without answering my question.

Great video Scooby, any suggestions for quad and hamstring exercises while working around bad knees?
rh1n0sir 2 years ago 2
i hope he answers this question. i screwed my right knee playing a game similar to baseball.
Spiritualntreligious 2 years ago
There are zillions of ways to screw up your knees and shoulders and how you work around complicated injuries like that is different for each injury type. There is no way to diagnose such a problem over the internet, heck, doctors sometimes have trouble diagnosing the problems with the help of MRIs! You need to make an appointment and have it looked at and then ask for a physical therapy perscription to help you work around it.

how about a video for a lower back injury that never seems to go away? that seems to be the most common
jc033829 2 years ago
if you have a pull up bar you can just hang from there for ten seconds or so. My dad uses a thing called an " Inversion Table " Both work very well, ive tried them and they really stretch the spine
M00SE94 2 years ago
Lower back injuries are not easily worked around and can be serious. Thats definitely one to talk to your doctor about. Whatever you do make sure to avoid any jerky bouncy motions as that will most certainly mess up your back.

Hi scooby. first let me say i am a big fan of yours and this is the first comment i leave on youtube. second - i have a question which is bothering me and i would like to hear your opinion. its about doing cardio right after weight training. i am doing intense 30 min weights and right after 45 min of cardio. is that a bad thing doing cardio right after weights? i saw mixed opinions of it on the internet and would really like to hear you opinion. thanks a lot for your amazing videos!

Benny2503 2 years ago
No my hand wasnt injured when I did this but my elbow tendinitis was flaring up to the point where I couldnt do pulllups.
scooby1961 2 years ago
Great video(s), thanks for the creative advice. Not relevant but I have a question. I love doing pullovers, most people do it on their chest days. However, it feels like more of a lat exercise. First of all, it's a pull motion like all lat exercises, we do pushing type of exercises for chest. Secondly, when you think of the movement itself, it is similar to narrow-grip pulldowns more than anything else. Yeah you feel chest too but many lat exercises involve a bit of chest anyway. Any suggestion?
Stupdityrant 2 years ago
I'm with you Stupdityrant, I classify pullovers as a lat exercise (and abs). Some people *claim* it expands the rib cage but I dont believe it any more than I believe that you can get taller by hanging upside down. :)
scooby1961 2 years ago
Another myth I've heard about pullovers is "it pulls your chest muscles up and give them better firm shape", i never believed that. People told me if I wanted to do it on my lats day, I should do it with a barbell and wider grip because a narrow grip makes it a chest exercise. But again, I think it's like pulldowns; a close grip makes us feel arms and chest more so a wide grip might be better for outer lats but the other way is still not a chest exercise.
Stupdityrant 2 years ago
You cannot pull any muscle up with an exercise that is impossible...
SerbianJudo 2 years ago
I really like your vids how you say and explain, better than others do for a price. But let me just tell what I noticed first day. I think your phisique is great, especially for your age. But your neck is sort of underdeveloped in comparison (though not in itself maybe). Any reason? The neck is a bodypart too, important especially in combat contests or anyway worth working it out to make it stronger, to prevent injuries or for the elder age. You don't consider it much in your videos... . A fan

P90ischeap 2 years ago
alcohol stops your muscles from building because it dehydrates your body (ur muscles need water to expand). also if you drink too much ur muscles get damaged =/

alcohol is empty clories. If you are already ripped and have 8-pack abs you can have a bit of alcolol. If you are trhing to add muscle and lose fat then its verboten

Can I

Hey Scoob,
I know this is unrelated to your movie's topic, but I have a question about your nutrition suggestions.
