That is why opera world is so ungateful, she gave practically all her life to music and now she is criticized for aging..... That's why I always disliked, that Opera legends are often disposed when they have the voice anymore as if they never had it. I love caballe, but this was not a wise choice, not only the aria, but to sing at all. I suppose the producers thought that the charm and fun of the aria could cover up the voice issues. This aria is often a choice for aging sopranos, because it is in the mezzo range and is popular as hell. Mon coeur from Samson et Dalilah might have been a better choice, an abridged version would not have been tiring.

Well, we do have to admitt, that she sounds a little short of breath and her voice has dropped from her former clear soprano to mezzo soprano. But still "chappeau" at her performance in her age.

I wish there was another way for her to stay vital. How to reconcile this horror show with her need to keep performing, all set against the backdrop of such an extraordinary career. MC has a large and loving family - she's not some delusional Norma Desmond - and surely someone at home can tell her the truth. But perhaps that truth is outweighed by a larger concern - singing is keeping her alive, so sing she must. But God, it hurts to see her so diminished. A sublime artist and a great lady.

The last years of that glorious career have been, on several occasions, jeopardized and spoilt by unprepared and totally out-of-track roles and/or repertoire. But this is truly pathetic and should have been avoided. I have great respect for the soprano but it's musically unacceptable and I would have refrained from uplodading these excerpts. Well at 78 what can one say? But many others would have scored a better result.

Rendons donc hommage à cette longétivité à cette présence vocale encore étonnante, et pardonnons avec amour les inégalités de registre, et l'aspect caricatural de certains défauts- notamment les graves!! Et je suis conviancu que March with est un play back. Il y trop de différences!!

Effectivement, il faut s'incliner devant la volonté de bien faire de Madame Caballé , d'autant que c'est le début des adieux (?). March est un de ces scandaleux playbacks dont la diva est coutumière : il y a bien longtemps qu'elle n'atteind plus les notes aigues de cet hymne kitch... Elle a battu tous les records en Russie en mimant le brindisi de Traviata issu de l'enregistrement Prêtre-Bergonzi-Milnes des années soixante.

I have just been listening to Caballe's live broadcast in France, July 25, 1974. Vivi, ingrato, Col sorriso d'innocenza, Tanti affetti, etc.--OMG! Then to this. It's the same voice! Amazing! Essential vocal color survives in La Superba's gorgeous voice. Yes, she has aged, lost some range, and--age 76--the magnificent lady has lost some control over her instrument. Still, there is unique beauty. As GeorgiNM says, she still has the power to fascinate. That smile! The eyes!

I don't know if It's the power of habit, but I believe this is better than most of what I have heard in 2007 and 2008... Caballe certainly knew how to be fascinating to an audience... Despite all her quirks, I love her!
