  • this certainly is and will be one of the legendary numbers of the london musical history!

  • @TheMarko78 What does jellicle mean? Jelly? they're jelly cats?

  • @MirabellaQuimbey hm...wikipedia says the term "jellicle cats" is a variation on "dear little cats", but, who knows...i used to always think it just meant they were mischievous, or something. :)

  • @claranibel Well I thought they were related to jelly or something after all they are Jellicle

  • @TheMarko78 this was made in usa.

  • @JemimasMusic erm, no. It wasn't. The play was first produced in London's West End in 1981, then put onto Broadway in 1982. Plus, this was filmed in a London theatre. So no, it wasn't made in the USA.

  • What's a Jellicle Cat.... What's a Jellicle Cat? -giggles- I love singing that part to people.

  • I never understood why this show ran more than 2 performances, much less became the longest running musical. I always though it was a load of crap. Give me 'A Chorus Line' any day!

  • @tarotbear Yes, your opinion is the reason that this is the second longest running show in Broadway history. Obviously people other than you like it. Chill.

  • cant beat the original cast, forget all these newbies

  • 81 mus bie mices or dogs!:D

  • Hi! Do you like CATS the musical? i just created a site, not completley put together yet, but working on it!! I have a Jellicle Cat club on my website as well. Please check it out and tell friends! I just made it and nobody has seen it yet! Thank You! jelliclejamboree.webs.com

  • Man I remember this play. It was a staple of my childhood~ My big sister would always sing and attempt to dance along with it. I still know all of the words, characters and most of the moves! What I would give to actually be in this play. It's brilliant in all ways.

  • And as i sit here, my cat is grinning at me... O_o

  • 81 people dont want to go to the heavy side layer:)

  • YOU KNOW THE ORIGINAL NAME FOR THIS SONG WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GENITAL CATS!!!

  • @ilovefrankandbeans Lies and slander! T.S. Eliot was far too excellent a man to debase himself with such horrid nonsense!

  • @WittyKitteh123 You could see how insulted they were when someone tried to shut them up with a boot.

  • when he said theres a man over there - in the stage production the cat saying it pointed at my dad xD

  • @GIRLSKATER6 When the local high school did Cats, i swear they pointed at me during that part.

  • i love cats

  • Think i have a Jellicle cat :)

  • @LadyGagaFanatic4life well no duhh there cats...al cats are warm in there fur! :D

  • This show is absolutely awful...but it looks like it'd be a crapload of fun to actually be in. All those amazing dance routines and furry unitards?? I'm a perfomer of musical theater, sounds great to me!! But to sit there and watch the show with it's lack of a good story line and poor character development...is agonizing. It's a wonder that this is the longest running show on broadway. It's probably because it was so commercialized. Everyone, even people who weren't into theater went to see it.

  • @CatClaws278 Just FYI, it was based off of a book, and if you pay any attention, you will actually notice what it's about!

  • @Fula101 I know it was based off of a poem book by T.S Elliot the word "Jellicle" was made up by his niece. The story is about a special league of cats that attend a Jellicle Ball once a year, and the whole musical is essentially like a talent show for all the cats. They appeal to Deuteronomy to see which cat will get to live another life. Deuteronomy eventually picks Grizabella because she's had a hard life. She disappears on a magical floating tire to come back in another life, the end.

  • @CatClaws278 First of all, that is not a floating tire. It is a stairway that leads her up to the Heavyside Layer. I actually PAID ATTENTION. Second of all, the names are actually original, third of all, the characters have a lot of different personalities. Pay attention and you will see. If you don't like it, don't watch or comment it.

  • @Fula101 I watched it about twice to force myself to like it because it's a classic. But I don't. I know the story really well, and it's...bad. There isn't enough substance. There isn't really much you can do with it...I appreciate that Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted to use a piece of classic literature for his show, but Cats was meant simply to rake in money and nothing else. The man is a marketing genius. He knew people wanted a flashy, piece of 80's trash, and that's what he gave them. IMO

  • @CatClaws278

Everyone has a right to their own opinion..

But with all due respect, one paragraph would've been enough. You claim your a performer of musical theater, as do I, and I'm not saying your not. Just that there are different types of performers. Some may like Shakespeare and classic shows, for the well-executed plot and music. Others, like most people here, appreciate bold shows with magical songs and dance performances. Not everyone is going to like the same thing. Have a nice day. ^^

  • @CatClaws278 I am well aware he is a marketing genius, but all of these dancers had to put a lot of time and effort to let this succeed. Many people find it very interesting, and is not like a lot of the trash that is on TV today! Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift have nothing on this!

  • @CatClaws278 Second longest. Phantom of the Opera surpassed it as the longest running. :D

  • aqswedrftgyuiop

  • すごい!さすがです!劇団四季のも好きですが、やはりブロードウェイや

    ウエストエンドのもすごいですね!いつか行きたいです、本場に…

  • I love this :)

  • so like..... yes

  • They must be so warm in those costumes.

  • @LadyGagaFanatic4life Actually, I bet they aren't. In our color guard, we had to wear skin tight costumes like these. They were very breezy, since the material was so thin. :P

  • @carihigs Actually, indoors they're surprisingly warm. I make my own CATS costumes and wear them to conventions, and running around inside a convention centre wearing a unitard, armwarmers, legwarmers and a wig actually becomes ridiculously hot! I and the rest of my CATS group usually have to retreat outdoors several times to cool down during a day at a con, or we'll overheat.

  • Uhm , what happend to Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazers' cockney/londoner accents ?

  • @GIRLSKATER6 When you're singing a chorus number, you have no character. It's important to blend even if you have a solo especially in the opening number because you don't want to draw too much attention to one specific character in the beginning. Throws off the balance.

  • This is definitely one of my top musicals ever!

  • Hmm i don't know if anyone noticed it... but isn't it Elaine Paige at 1:22 ?

  • @Fawkes22 yeah it is, that's when Grizabella was young

  • @Fawkes22 duh

  • @Fawkes22 yea it is cuz at the beginging she is glamours and pretty but she ages and we mostly see her as an old cat

  • God, I love GrowlTiger's voice!

  • I went to the German Musical 2 times and its soo awesome *.*

  • I own this on DVD i lent it to some freinds and just got it back today. I also saw it live not all that long ago they did an extra song not on the DVD called Growltiger's last stand (Which anyone who owns Old possum's book of practical cats can read) however they did cut out a song too i cant remember but i think it was gus the theater cat. off to watch my DVD now.

  • @apkriez In the DVD they cut Growltiger's Last Stand, but they added The Aweful Battle of the Peke's and the Pollicles. The couldn't have cut Gus the Theatre Cat because that's the introduction to Growltiger! :)

  • @MrNeedlefeet Yes thats true i suppose i must remember to be more awake so i can remember things better when i write a comment. In the show i saw they did do OF THE AWFUL BATTLE OF THE PEKES AND THE POLLICLES together with some account of the participation of the pugs and the poms, and the intervention of the great rumpuscat (thats one long name lol) do you know if they added it to all the later shows?

  • @apkriez I was at the National Tour last year when it came through Hollywood and, sadly, they didn't perform that song. It was one of my favourite pieces from the DVD, lol.

  • @MrNeedlefeet Yeah, the national tour doesn't have that song. I saw it in April when it came to Houston, and they performed "Growltiger's Last Stand" instead. I was sad, but it was still amazing. :D

  • @12Toodles12 That doesn't make any sense. The movie and the stage musical are almost exactly the same.

  • This will always be the best musical ever.

  • you have obviously forgotten the mice rib, and the fact that you have forgotten the mice makes you dumber than a box of rocks ^^. also, lets not forget the fact that humans are very human-centric in regards of intelligence and that we are the only species on the planet that are existing by and large on a negative one state of civilisation, with lv -2 being wiped ourselves off the face of existance

  • NO DOG IS MORE INTELLIGENT THAN A CAT,ITS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN,HUMANS,THEN PRIMATES,THEN CATS.CATS ARE MORE ADVANCED AND INTELLIGENT THAN DOLPHINS,WHALES OR HORSES,SCIENTFIC FACT...ASK ANY ZOOLOGIST.X

  • I just suddenly felt the urge to listen this.. ^_^" I watched the video SO many times it broke and so I bought it on DVD and I can still watch it over and over <3 .. even now I love them hihi. Of course I saw the actual musical, but that one was in Dutch (both when I about 6 years and later when it came back.. maybe 3 years ago?) :) it just makes me happy..

  • @ChocolatePieSuus i was the same way! when i was little my mom recorded it on a tape and i watched it so much that i broke it.

  • pena que a imagem não é muito boa

  • I went to this play in San Bernadino and saw it. This was my favorite part. I'm going to see it again. And there was this special Ed lady sitting across from me and in the middle of the song she would always go like WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOO WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My high school did this play a few months ago. I wasn't in it, but I played in the orchesra pit. When I showed up to the first rehearsal, I didn't know what to expect. I saw a bunch of my classmates is skin-tight full-body leotards with crazy wigs and their faces painted. I have to admit that I was at first freak out by these half-cat, half-human abominations of nature, and my friends were confused (Macavity dance=fetish?). Nevertheless, we soon grew used to this play, and we came to like it. :)

  • 74 persons hate cats

  • @sack46 I actually do and so do alot of other people. : \
