Almost... He's an incredibly gifted, yet twisted, young boy starved for attention from his parents. The only thing that stands in the way of that attention is his parents. The only real 'somebody' that cares about him is his uncle and through his demented mind he creates a plan to get what he wanted all along; Someone to luv him. I would tend to believe he lost hope in that love ever being true when finding the tape of his mother basically expressing how much of a burden he was as a child. Nice.
