Aww crap, I made a video 3 months ago thinking I was sure that these were Daphnia pulex I had been culturing. Any experts here can tell me if I had seed shrimp or Daphnia sp.?
Video title: "Water Flea" (Daphnia pulex)
Also, Eigio, bravo for documenting so many days of this closed system - it's very impressive and inspiring! Do you still have it running so many years later?
For the ecosystem, thank you :) and no it's long gone, it ran for few years and died out, algae took over everything. Maybe it's because it was standing on windowsill having too much of light or other reason, now I have other kinda ecosystem it;s more like aquarium just that really thin, it's 4cm in thickness and have some regular aquarium plants, it's just covered with glass on top, not sealed, and have a lighting with timer.
@eigio Thanks for the reply! Very cool stuff - I've been working on some eco-jars that are similar to what you describe (class covering but not 100% sealed). I will go edit my video to reflect that it is from the ostracoda classification aka "seed shrimp", thanks for the help! You should make a vid of your new system!
"Ostracoda is a class of the Crustacea, sometimes known as the seed shrimp because of their appearance. Some 50,000 extinct and extant (surviving) species have been identified, grouped into several orders." Wikipedia
they're called seed shrimp and muscle shrimp but they're not true shrimp. for the most part, they're nearly microscopic but the largest one, gigantocypris, can grow to over an inch in length.

@eigio
There were some snails in the beginning, but now it's only some left, plants are going good though...compared to previous one.
