@AmanteTu -- During the late 90s I saw Bowzer (with a new group featuring some talented young fellows) performing on a RCCL cruise ship. He's not as skinny as he once was but still a great performer!
Sha Na Na was one of my favorite TV shows in the late 1970s. After seeing "Grease," I got to know Sha Na Na even more. Pamela Myers, the blonde in the show, looked and acted like Olivia Newton John with a funny voice, but she was a funny lady. I believed Jon "Bowzer" Bauman was the John Travolta of the show. He was so cool and funny. He looked and acted like Danny Zuko the most, and added a bonus to it - the exaggerated bass voice. To me, Bowzer and Pamela were Danny and Sandy on TV.
Thank you. This certainly brings back some memories. This was one of my favorite numbers from the TV show. I was "so in love" with Johnny then. Ahhhh, this made me feel young again. :)
@1bountifulinc That is no chubby blonde. That is the amzing Pamela Myers who since Sha Na Na has gone on and done broadway. she was multi talented and they did feature her two of her best are on here I guess you are too young to have seen the show !
@landrykkb -- I agree! I've actually seen an article referring to Marilyn Monroe as fat. Fat?!?!?!? That's the kind of "fat" broad I'd like to be with. Whoever wrote the article must be anorexic! Sheesh!
I know but we are just friends. I don't have much time for anything. I'm a full time care giver to my Mom. And my weight just kept going up up up. I was promised a full 24 hrs. for just me. That was 9 years ago. So I munch & listen to Johnny love on my beautiful dogs. And try not to take any frustration out on my Wonderful Mom. She likes him too. Cause honey I take him where ever I GOOO! Did He & his Fiance tie the knot yet? I wish them every happiness & joy. We need recent pic.
No I'm sure he doesn't. He teaches voice. I really wish that they would pick up his cooking show. Made my mouth water. Of course my mouth waters looking at him anyway. He may have more weight on him but he still has those same moves. He is just one very sexy beautiful man. When he sings he just gives all of himself. I'm going to write him a hand PRINTED letter & ask why he doesn't come to Ms. Coast. Got to get busy. Bye
@Tonithenightowl I think he was on Broadway in Hair. It was finishing I think when a friends Mother told him that Sha na na was looking for a new lead who could sing the high notes. He tried out the rest is History! And he still has the beautiful voice. Sure wish he would come to the Mississippi Coast. I would love to see him in person. I ordered his first Ballads for Lovers. He personally addressed envelope & a note insde. I'm still Giddy.
@cajanwitch60 Yes you are right. I think he was only about 20 yrs old at the time. He said he knew from age 6 he was going to be a singer. I am ordering that too and if I don't get it personally signed I'm going to come looking for you with revenge lol He is the best. Such a nice man, I have spoken with him a few times via his facebook and he could not be more generous. Well at least I hope I was speaking to him and not his publicist lol I can't bear that thought lol
@Tonithenightowl Lady you made my night!! I don't know how to do all the facebook an others. But let me tell you. I am putting my envelope in an air proof plastic. And I'm sure that he does that for all of his fans. He is still the handsome man we love from Sha na na. I put as many as I can on my que & start it when I go to bed. That way I am relaxed (somewhat). I watched his cooking Video. My heart flipped when he went into the pool. I would do the same thing, and have!!
@cajanwitch60 I have yet to see that video but now I must lol. I hope it can still be downloaded, the last time I tried I couldn't seem to get it. I just ordered the cd ballad for lovers, so if mine isn't signed I will come hunting for you lol. If you can't relax to Johnny boy, you simply can't relax period lol. He's the best there is. I will also treasure anything signed by him. He doesn't want us showing up at his door saying Hey Johnny did you really sign this? wink wink
@Tonithenightowl You know how sexy Johnny is! Well I have a friend in Pa. He has a very quiet voice. And he knows I am single. He always say's sweet Dreams & the WAY he does it. It's like Johnny singing the little sexy catch in one of his songs. Between Pa. & Johnny. Well you can guess. I missed him today. Was at a friends so didn't get to listen to him. But am making up for it.
@cajanwitch60 You don't have to make excuses for your Johnny fix lol We all need that lol. How nice that you have a friend that reminds you of Johnny's singing. This dude may be a keeper wink wink
@spiritofshiloh lol One of my dreams is seeing the sunset, stars, and a full moon in the desert. One of these days I will do that. You get dry heat ( blast furnance) while we have the ungodly humidity ( a sauna ) but summer is just about over and I'm getting ready for Halloween. We do a huge party every year and it's a blast. We have a band ( friends of ours) and ppl get inventive with costumes and it has lasted till 11 am the next morning. We are old but not over the hill yet lol.
Tonighenightowl,I cannot think of a better music era than the late 50's to the mid 80's. I love all kinds of music, except rap and some other off the wall noise.
@spiritofshiloh Agreed. They can keep the rap, heavy metal and speed metal. That's noise not music. If someone wanted to torture me all they would have to do is play that kind of music and I would go mad lol.
I had the privlage to see Sha Na Na in concert in Toronto in 1977, the night Elvis died. Man, if you guys never saw the boys live, you missed out huge. 3 hours of non-stop rock and roll! Brilliant they were.
Someone get the big knife and finish me off because I'm dying listening to Johnny sing. I would have knocked Pamela right off her perch to have Johnny sing this song to me. Lucky gal.
@Tonithenightowl This is a song sung by Johnny that I feel is better than the original version! My opinion. Take care and keep grooving to the oldies! Mike.
@mikeletz Agreed. I also think Johnny's version of Shop Around is better than the original. When someone can do a cover better than the original that's saying something. Oh and Tell Laura is better than the original too. Smoke gets in your eyes and I only have eyes for you, same thing. Let's face it the man could out sing most. Talk about talent!!! Take care and yes I will keep groovin' to the oldies.Today's music ain't got the same soul give me that old time rock and roll lol
@Tonithenightowl You sure know your music. It is always a pleasure to hear from you. Rock n Roll is here to stay. I hope you will subscribe to my channel also. I have quite a variety of music videos. I especially like Doo Wop. Just click on my name and my channel should pop up. Talk soon, Mike.
@mikeletz will do and thanks. Always a pleasure to converse with someone who appreciates the origins of rock and roll and that was doo wop and R&B. The British always say that was their inspiration and we know it was ours.
@spiritofshiloh It was a time of music revolution. We had rock and roll, folk music, motown, the british invasion, and the birth of heavy metal all in one decade. I don't think there has been any era since that can touch it for it's creativity and purpose.
@mikeletz lol oh yes, Sugar Sugar, Yummy Yummy Yummy, Popsicle, My boy Lollipop all great songs but you could get diabetes from them wink Have a wonderful weekend and it's great hearing from you. We are melting in the heat here but summer is just about over. Then we can moan about winter lol
@Tonithenightowl It is always nice to hear from you also! Where do you live? I live in Wisconsin and it has been hot and humid for the last 2 weeks. Can't wait for cooler weather! Listening to great music helps us forget what the weather is like outside! Do you like Roy Orbison music? He was one of my favorite singers also. Talk to you soon, Mike.
@mikeletz I am a big Orbison fan, I love Jay Black , Bobby Hatfield ( Righteous Bros.) but my favorite is Gene Pitney. I just happen to love tenors. That's another reason I love Johnny Contardo, his voice is a magnificent tenor. None of these singers ( while fantastic) had Johnny's ability to deliver a song to the audience as Johnny does. Watching Johnny sing is like watching a Broadway performance. Talk to you soon Mike.
@Tonithenightowl Hi Toni! I agree with you. You named alot of my personal favorite singers. I remember watching Johnny and Sha Na Na everyweek on TV. They were so talented. I saw Sha Na Na perform in person 3-4 times. they always put on a good show. Talk soon, Mike.
@mikeletz You saw them in person and more than once WOW!!! I'm so jealous lol. You got to see something few of us fans have, Sha na na back in the day. That's one of my regrets that I never got to see them live. I'm sure it was something to behold.. Not many bands sing "and" entertain you. Peace Mike.
@Tonithenightowl Believe it or not , there is still a version of Sha Na Na playing around the country. It still features Jocko on drums, Screamin Scott on piano, Denny on vocals and a new cast of other performers. I saw them locally last year and they put on a good show. They get the audience involved. They could use somebody like Johnny to really sound Great! Talk soon, Mike.
@mikeletz Somehow it wouldn't be the same without Johnny and Bowser, but I'm sure they still put on a great show. I have seen some of those videos. There has to be some reason Bowser and Johnny aren't interested in teaming up with the last of the group. I do agree, they could use both guys. Then I would kill to see them wink
@oakmeal53 From what I gather listening to what Johnny Contardo had to say about it in an interview, it has to do with publishing rights because they covered so many hits and need permission for all those songs to sell them. It's a damn shame because millions would be interested in having Sha na na on dvd.
This song showcases Johnny's voice beautifully! Had been way less appreciative and aware of wonderful singing voices in the past. Why would you put a guy in an orange dress and blond wig to highlight one of the most romantic songs ever written. What a shame to turn this classic love song by The Tymes into a comedy skit. Boo-hoo!
IF you love SNN as I do you can go to their official website and under LINKS at the bottom is a link to Sha Na Na Fan Pages by Cheryl and then on her site there is a link saying "HELP GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD!"
There were others' who sang Falsetto notes, Johnny sang them the Most-Accurately though, that's why he's quite good today as a well sought after Vocal Coach, he's got an Awesome set of talents'!!
Ok - love this video but it reminded me of how insanely jealous I was of Pamela Myers. I mean - what a great job - getting to hang out all the time with all these cute guys AND get paid for it!?!? I would have paid them!
Shananalfreak, I am glad you said something because I took it the same way. Glad too you and rigdguy made up. It is so easy to be offended on here when you can only see words. If only we could hear what the people were saying. I have been misunderstood more times than I want to know about. Ok, time for me to cut down on the caffeen. Later.
Oh, to have been born a few years earlier so I could truly have enjoyed these while they were still on TV. Again, Pamela Myers was one lucky girl to have worked so closely with such gifted and beautiful men, with a special nod to Johnny.
Unfortunately, David "Chico" Ryan had passed away in 1988. He was a well liked local guy from around my hometown and a great talent. He will be missed always.
Not to split hairs ,but Chico passed away in July of 1998. His death was a horrible tragedy as , although not revealed, he chocked on a piece of meat.
johnny, jamed!! back then and still.

There were others' who sang Falsetto notes, Johnny sang them the Most-Accurately though, that's why he's quite good today as a well sought after Vocal Coach, he's got an Awesome set of talents'!!

my favourite singer singing my favourite song...just wanna cry...

I think Johnny was the only member who could hit those high background notes. So...is Johnny basically singing along with himself?? Love this!

How did she not melt into a puddle when Johnny touched her? I would have been a mess.

Ok - love this video but it reminded me of how insanely jealous I was of Pamela Myers. I mean - what a great job - getting to hang out all the time with all these cute guys AND get paid for it!?!? I would have paid them!

Yes,we made up and we are friends now,and I agree that sometimes when you write something,it will get taken wrong, but thanks for saying somthing.

Oh,ok I'm very sorry then, didn't mean to have attitude.

Later.

Love Johnny to death but did anyone else notice he hardly looked at Pam while he was singing to her.
GrannyJuJu 3 years ago
She didn't look at him much either; he might have been able to play it better if she did. I would have had stars in my eyes looking at him.

Yes,I do know that he passed, and I'm sure he was very well liked, but it's still ok to say my comment
shananafreak 3 years ago
Of course it's still OK, I was just saying in case anyone didn't know. Easy now girl!

Not to split hairs ,but Chico passed away in July of 1998. His death was a horrible tragedy as , although not revealed, he chocked on a piece of meat.
