@ zahra: rightly said sis .. but the claim ain't that small in this qawwali. "Tumhein baat karnaa sikhaa diyaa ... tumhein aik qatil bana diyaa" ... this is a bit too much .. i mean someone like me who loves nusrat's music has nothing against him. Just that sometimes i think shikwaa too Allah is a bit too stretched in this qawwali and he's blaming all on the creator that it's his fault that made him "Sharabbi" ... I have nothing against anyone but the words are a bit too confronting :) ...
I think that there are many ways of intepreting drunk, It doesn't necessarily have to do with alcohol. In the Quran it says that there are four streams in heaven coming from the sentence os Tasmiyyah. There is a stream of milk, honey, water and sharabun tahura. Sharab means wine but in heaven? Yep, this is pure alcohol not like the one today. Drunk means intoxicated, when your body is on another level and not as everyone else. When your love for god is high then your body is intoxicated.
You have no care or desire for anyone else. Everyone interprets things to how they are themsleves. If someone is looking to listen to this for Allah's sake then there is good for him and it shows he is religious. If he listens to it for a womans sake then he is lost in duniya. Poetry always has two meanings. One which is so obvious and one so deep. I think some of us are having difficulties trying to reach the deeper meaning since their minds are so limiting.
to understand the true meaning of any qawaal u gt to have knwoledge and understanding of poetry. we all can assume wat he is singing but poetry has a deeper meaning which the actual meaning has to be decipherd!not guessed about
but the legend is not saying anything against allah because he has writen the amazing qawwalis like allah ho allah so why would he start dissing allah.. please ppl writing against him use their heads before commenting...im not saying its about allah but if it is then there is a very depth meaning and if it isnt then its not saying anything about allah
like all of you im confused to if the great nusrat fateh ali khan is talking about a women or allah but this qawwali came in an islamic album of his so i think it is about allah but i am sure and hundred percent certain nusrat would not right any lyrics without knowledge of imams and scholars and the language is very meaning full but hard to understand
Face it. The qawwal is basically saying that God has driven one to drink (alcohol). If you cannot accept that, then your mind is closed. Yes, Islam bans drinking. But if you are so blinded by dogma, then there is no hope for you. True faith only comes through questioning. God created us with an independent mind. Resolving these petty issues against overall good or evil will determine your fate. "I don't drink, but I spill the blood of others." What is the lesser evil?
Waziri: that is the exact nature of the qawwal. You have got it wrong. The lyrics say: that His Divineness (god) and our inability to comprehend the Divine have driven us to doubt, driven us to drink, driven us to question. This is a long conversation better left out of YouTube character limit limitations.

dillagi hi dillagi main dil gaya DIL lagane ka nateeja mil gaya"
obviously for a woman and so are the rest of the lines but these r the most obvious i think

Beautiful song with deep religious meanings..Love it!
inclouds786 4 years ago 2
this song dosnt have anything to do with any religion. he is talking about a woman.
waziri 4 years ago
Aw come on Waziri,
He is only talking about his parvardeegar;
not about some woman,
not about the wine
When he says teri nazar... he means rehmat-e-ilahi.
When he says Mast, he means mast like a kalandar, not like a bewada
When he says suroor, all he is talking about is the ishq of khuda
He is giving you a message, but then
samajhne wale samajh gae
bandhurey 4 years ago 9
in that case this is blasphemy,
holding God accountable for him being a drunk.

oh god this song has nothin to do with religion he is talkin abt a woman here.....
like i mean come on " mere badh kis ko satao ge,muje kis tara se bhulao ge
meri wafein yaad karo ge roo ge faryaad karo ge ,
mujhko toh barbad kia hai aur kise barbad karo ge" he's hardly gonna say it to khuda
Mez197 4 years ago
seems like you got taste for the music.. but no sense of comprehension..
just take the first line. "yeh jo halka, halka suroor hai. yeh teri nazar ka kusoor hai, ke sharab peena sikha diya.
I'm sure he wouldn't want to hold God responsible (considering its forbidden in islam) for him being an alcoholic.

@bandhurey you are right, many people think sharab as wine which is haraam.sharab is actually love of Allah and Ahl e bait.
