This has always been a favorite of mine. Is it just me or is the scene from BLADE RUNNER where Deckard meets Rachel in the Tyrell building very similar to this?
I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire. Not sure who sang it on the commercial. Other posts suggest Bobby Short, others say the Ink Spots. Hard to say, and I'm no expert. I think it's Bobby Short because the Ink Spots re-make sounds slightly different. Either way, an awesome song!
I like the new chanel ad on the train in France. I think it's only been just released. I am trying to find it on you tube - ut with no luck. With Audrey Tautou and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
This is an excellent commercial.. But during 1978 in California, I saw several times a commercial in same style as this one, but it was still more intensive. I still think it is the best commercial I have ever seen. Could anyone point me to Chanel 5 commercials shown in that period??
The most impressive, abstract, amazing commercial I have ever seen. It STILL gives me goosebumps 28 years after its release. Thank you whoever posted this. You made my year !!!
Not to argue Dialtonedude, but Bobby Short mentioned in his autobiography that he sang this song for the Chanel 5 commercials. None of the great Ink Spots sounded like Mr. Short, he was very unique. There is only one person on this vocal.
I can hear the difference. I stand corrected. This is a wonderful knock-off (they sound very much alike) that had me fooled for most of 30 years. Did Bobby record the entire tune, and can it be had?
Dial:,,,,I sent you a private note. To answer you...no, and no.
But I am sure that if you had requested him to sing it when he played in clubs, he would have been very happy to. Bobby Short was a class act if there ever was one.
Are you sure that is Bobby Short? I have looked ALL OVER the net and I can't find any mention of him ever singing the song on any discography list... I have also listened to all of the versions I can find from the Ink Spots and I STILL have not heard THIS version...and it's the one I love most and BADLY want to find on mp3! :-(
Over the years, Short came to represent the elegance and sophistication of New York with his tuxedoed appearance and repertoire of standards. As a result, he became attractive to advertisers, who frequently featured him in television commercials and print ads for such products as perfume and designer jeans.
Yes, it is Booby Short. I remember it being discussed when this ad came out. Does anybody have a :60 version of this ad? I do, but it is poor quality.

Thats the late Bobby Short singing the tune in this commercial.

That's The Ink Spots singing the song in
1941. Darn good harmony. They paved the
way for all the great 50s and 60s vocal
harmony groups. My fav Ink Spots tune.

You're right. On careful listeneing to both,
I can hear the difference. I stand corrected. This is a wonderful knock-off (they sound very much alike) that had me fooled for most of 30 years. Did Bobby record the entire tune, and can it be had?
