I think this song is about someone who has a negative outlook on life, maybe because of society. And she copes with it by being pessimistic and depressed, hence the line "mascara running down your face". Brandon is asking her to smile and that every day is a new day ("the camera lens is opening"). He wants to capture her smiling, to possibly give him hope and strength for the future, "Give me sustenance...love not suicide and the wiser and wider part of me will show. Just my two cents.

I was in chicago as well....20 ft away dead center in front of brandon....ive seen some good ass bands in my day and nothin yet can compare to seeing incubus.....they are just flat out amazing performers...alot of people give them shit for not creating albums like science,make yourself, and morning view.....well they proved to those jack-offs wrong at Northerly island! Except of course Drive, Stellar, and Pardon Me. All three of those songs are off of Make Yourself, which of course was the album before Morning View. I personally love the new album. It is a greatest hits album, so you have to think about that when you think about track selection. Those songs were chosen on how they did on the charts, thats it. I have favorites sure, but I'm not going to expect those songs to be liked by the charts. How often does that really happen?

@PatriotDynasty My friend and i were just talking about how it's not on the CD and it's an AMAZING so but we both came to the conclusion that it's BECAUSE it's such a great song that they wanted to keep it on the DL. That way, they're not pressured to overplay it both on radio and live. It's kind of a personal song that's intended for the true fans that dubb deeper into incubus' gem tracks.

dirk/alex made the band to funky which was alright when they were 17/18 but they moved on and so did there sound. when they brought in Ben kenney the sound evolved and if you listen to the lyrics they became more meaningful and so did the music. I appreciate all there music and i dont prefer either the funky stuff or their new experimental stuff its ll good!!
