It is also important to note that at the time DC were not the household name they are today in north America. well known in Europe at the time and already legends in australia, they only toured the US for the first time in '77. One look at them and there was no mistaking what they were, just not everybody had the chance to get a look at that time.
Rush really didn't sell a lot of records in Australia.. not in '77, not in '87, not ever...
Don't get me wrong, Rush CD's can be found on stands in music stores in this country and many of their albums can be found at second hand record stores. It's just that they're not known outside those who are in the know. The man interviewing Bon in the clip has had a long association with AC/DC and Bon (even years before AC/DC were formed) and being a pop music promoter I'm not surprised he didn't 'em
no disrespect to rush man, awesome band. they were all young guys starting out. put yourself in his shoes. life was a roller coaster. awesome video. bon rocks
I tought it was cool that Kiss and AC/DC both play'd together, two of my favorite bands who are right now one of the biggest ever. I've seen Kiss live, it was pretty much amzzing.
I remember when Rush was first starting to gain pop status, it was right after Fry rocked out to them on Futurama. It is cool to see Rush get props but I knew they were cool when they susposedly were not. First show 9.18.83 baby, opening night at Radio City.
Rush weren't in the indie scene, it's just that they were unheard of in Australia. They still are, actually, but I'm from melbourne and I'm a huge fan.
Rush was already headlining their own "Farewell to Kings Tour" by Nov. 1977. . . So either that interview was actually older than the posted date of Nov. 1, 1977; or both Bon and the interviewer are stuck in 1975.

I can see how Bon worded the reference to Rush. This clip is from '77 when Rush was just starting to hit the mainstream rock audience after the release of 2112 the previous year. But the hilarious thing is "that guy who plays bass for Kiss". Carl? Tha't friggin hilarious! Ride On Bon! Miss you!
People take Rock so much for granted today mate - i was a Rocker from about late summer 1980 in England it was so exciting back then- i could go for days and weeks telling you about the scene back then but hey - people think mtv as been around forever - back then you had to wait for the music press like Sounds or Kerrang ahhh no wonder rocks dying sad but true ! Bon Scott RIP !
Kiss AC-DC and RUSH The 3 greatest bands probably...heavy rock/metal ..Kiss heavy rock/blues...AC-DC and progressive rock...Rush all the best at what they do...so much better than the yes, zeppelin. purple sabbath bands who were only good for a limited number of songs...and were over rated....
Personally I put the music that Rush put out in the 70's up their with Zeppelin. Listen to Hemispheres, Caress Of Steel, and 2112. 2112, which came out in 1976 is just un-real. Permanent Waves, 1979, was their 1st semi-progressive album, Moving Pictures probably sold 1000x more albums than all of their others combined, and after that they have put out that same type of progressive music, which I can appreciate, but don't care that much for. I saw them once in 1986.
All (3), ACDC, Kiss, and Rush had their dubut albums in 1974. RE: ppl not knowing about Rush, that was because their 70's music wasn't very mainstream, but ppl that knew what real talent was knew about bands like Rush and Yes. You gotta love ACDC, and Kiss was huge, but Getty, Pert, and Lifeson are above the others as far as musicianship. If you are aound 41 like me you would know tha Back in Black, and Moving Pictures totalls transformed AC & Ru to super-stardom!
well said my friend. very interesting. all 3 bands are legends in their own. Bon was so humble and didn't appear to be the madman that so many believe. Live music was so great in '77 still.
