There's really no right or wrong way to do pull-ups, they are all exercise in different ways. My preference is slightly wider than shoulder width a pronated grip. I like doing them from a dead hang with my legs crossed and bent at the knees so I cant use them for momentum or kipping. I always do them with a dead-hang, but the pull up itself I do explosively rather than slow. Climbing a rope is another good way to work those muscles.
Sucks starting out getting in shape. I'm able to do....one. :^(

Russian Spetsnaz have to do 20 dead hangs with 23 lb weights attached to them to meet PAR
