  • am i right in saying you learnt this song such a night from a dr john video did it come with actual sheet music for the song.

  • Yes. I learned it from a number of his live versions.. mostly the one from 81' where he plays it solo. I'm sure there is sheet music for it, but I learn everything by ear.. never learned to read music. If I'm being honest I'm just a guitarist who plays a little piano. P.S I just finished that Nicky Hopkins Solo you requested, It's up. Enjoy

  • thank you ever so much for showing us this you are a very good teacher and explain it very well.

any chance sometime of you doing the electric piano solo of john lennons HOW DO YOU SLEEP as played by the late great Nicky Hopkins.

  • Thanks a lot man.. I love to teach. I will definitely do a lesson on that so stay tuned.

  • THANK YOU!!! I can't make those letters any bigger or I would. I've been waiting a long time for someone to do this.

  • Nice man, very cool ending. Thats gonna be a serious challenge for me, but it will be worth it to add that to the lesson. Thanks again

  • Dr John - Such a Night.wmv put this in the youtube search box. it wont let me post the link

first video that pops up killer!

  • Here is a link for such a night with that chromatic ending. I figured out part of it. Live version/great audio. Starts off with some nice slow blues as an introduction. At 4:56 he jumps into a version of "big mac" and then goes back to such a night. At 6:50 he does this chromatic ending. Might be too long to explain. then again. Great turnarounds throughout the song. Going onto US blues after this!

  • Thank you very much man. I'm so glad people are getting good use out of these lessons. I have not yet heard his live endings so I'm afraid they're not in the lesson. I can always add it in later. I've added Ramble On Rose & Ten Jed to the list. What I'll do is compile Keith Godchaux's best versions of these songs and try to make a lesson out of it. Europe 72' will definitely be in the mix.

  • FANTASTIC! I have Dr John instructional DVDS but your lessons are much more helpful. Love your site. My two favorite bands are Dr John/The Dead. I can play this song but you bring out a lot of details that make a huge difference. I can't wait to get to my piano. Dr john used to end this song live with a long descending exit. I don't know if it is on the version you are showing. Maybe you could show that part. Greatly appreciated. Maybe Ramble on rose or ten jed from europe 72 Thanks
