Looks you are using steel needles. I have a few boxes of 78's that were ruined by using steel instead of bamboo (notice that the needle holder is square). Steel is ok on the electric machines that didn't put as much pressure on the grooves.
hi i just got a victor victrola ,,no much idea of it ,its loaded with records of 33rpm ,not 78rpm anyway ,i can adjusted the speed of the table ,,,now my question is where i can get those bamboo needles ,,i bougth on ebay steel needles for pennies but im afraid to use them because they are goin to ruin the records,,
I have this record and play it on my Victrola, there is nothing that could be worth more to me, no money to take away the feeling I have inside when I hear it. Thank you Ethel.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Electric recording, acoustic phonograph, for the record sake, please, only play acoustic records on this Victrola (a lovely machine btw!) Just please help preserve this for the next generation to enjoy.
It wouldn't any difference playing this on a Victrola if it was meant to be played on an Orthophonic Victrola. I checked with the Cat No (Decca 140) and this record was pressed in late 1934 when phonograph reproducers were almost identical to the one being used here. Do you think people with the old Victrolas just threw them in the garbage or stopped using them with electric recordings when they first came out?
Well, yes you do have a point, from a glance since the majority of blue label Deccas were pressed in the 40s when the shellac composition used was changed introducing plastics into the records making them vulnerable to steel needles. Great videos you have, btw.
Great video! What an amazing machine and what a voice!

RVCrusher1 6 months ago
@RVCrusher1 Nope, I only wind it until I feel it starting to tighten up.. I have cranked it all the way up and it's fine, but I try not to.

Use cactus needles. They actually improve the quality of the record over time.

I just obtained one of these machines that needs restored. Any idea where I can get parts for it? Mine is dated 1904-1905 but looks identical.

This is awesome! This is one song that is definitely timeless, and song by a great songstress will ensure that it is.
An absolutely brilliant posting.
Thank you for sharing.

What a giant...her voice control and frequently imitated (though never duplicated) style is timeless.

Audiophile, Waters may have recorded this in 1934, but I believe this pressing post dates 1937. (I think?) It is a wonderful recording. Regards, J.
