I would be surprised if any of these Budapesters are themselves Jewish. But by sticking to the melodies and MODES of the old original songs they do an infinitely better job than many American Jewish klezmer bands who think they can "improve" on the old masters. they never heard the old joke about the Yiddish translation " Shakespeares Verke -farteicht un farbessert fun.." S's works translated and improved by... Eljen Budapester Band !!

äh,nein? ska ist gleich jamaikanische folklore-elemente+rock. klezmer ist jüdische folkloremusik. im ska gibts ja z.b. keine klarinetten und klezmer gibts idr keinen off-beat, der DAS charakteristikum von reggae und ska ist.

the klezmer music has its origin from the ashkenazic jewish people who used to live in the balkan region too...so maybe thats why it sounds so familiar

You folks do such a good job!  I think you are the most solid Klezmer band I have ever heard. Everyone else seems to want to morph Klezmer into something else. You have been honest to the roots of Klezmer that is so cool. Thanks for the hard work!

I think that Klezmer Dixie stuff is kind of ok, but everything else by way of innovation in Klezmer music seems to fail, sounds too sentimental or too lean and arty.
