  • Worthy of having a movie made after it, even though the movie has nothing at all to do with the lyrics. In my opinion, not one of their best, but it's still true to the PsyFirs' style with some unusual discordance. The sax riff was a big mistake, which is maybe why whoever posted this version cut it short.

  • Tnx for the upload but next time deinterlace the vid please..

  • sexy...

  • I miss the 80's, there were such awesome colors and styles then!

  • unique voice..

  • @Johnnywhamo maybe so but one in a million would recognize these guys today and pretty much only cause of this song

  • Contribuimos a la venta de ropa de color Rosa en todo el Mundo.

    Tim Butler.2004

  • this n love my way, my best tracks o theirs

  • The Psychedelic Furs Furs are are not one hit a wonder, they are a lesser known band but they have a lot of great songs, like Heaven, Love My Way, Ghost in You to name a few

  • Um...he kinda looks like Mick Jagger and Johnny Rotten had a kid..? :| ...wow, so this is a really awesome song though! Never listened to them before! Cool, cool...

  • some more 80's excellence!

  • is the singer David Bowie?

  • @archybaby Not sure if you're being serious because he does look and sound a bit like him. But no, it's not David Bowie. His name is Richard Butler.

  • one hit wonders? no way. click on some more youtube vids for the Psychedelic furs. These guys were no one hit wonders.

  • @marksguitars so much do iagree luv u

  • one hit wonders - still 1 more than most of us can come up with

  • @MultiMagoon I know everyone's raggin ya about the one hit thing..so I'll pile on and say not so, they indeed had tunes atop the charts for 4- 5 years. LOL PEACE!

  • these guys rock i miss those days 80's rock

  • The Strokes? <<< LMFAO

the band that struggles not to have their own cover art upstage them...

  • Add Interpol to the list below.

  • HOLY SWEET MOTHER OF F**K THIS IS AWESOME!

  • People who whine about 00's being sucky music aren't looking hard enough. They're also probably critiquing before giving the music a real listen. 80's is a nice decade, but don't miss your own because you think it sucks. It doesn't. Some bands to start you out, MGMT, The Strokes, White Stripes, The Killers, Coldplay, and I could go on if I wanted to. Please just stop whining your era sucks, because it doesn't. You just suck at finding the good stuff, or have no idea what makes a good song.

  • pretty nice song, it´s classic !

  • It depresses me that I never experienced the 80's :'( I haveto live with all the modern stuff that all sounds the same - It's like blooming Ground Hog Day D: ! I love 80's Music :D

  • At SINNERSDAY 2010 in Hasselt(B)

  • PFurs 19 october 2010 Lisbon... I love it.

  • early 80's music was an explosion of originality and creativity, nothing like that since then

  • Personally I prefer 'Into You Like A Train' 'I Wanna Sleep With You' 'No Tears' 'Mr Jones' and 'Sister Europe'... Damn... is there a Best Of with these tracks on it ??? Oh...yeah....and I'm a sucker for the cheese of 'Love My Way' (who isn't) and 'The Ghost In You' (great pop song !!)

  • I wanted to make a relevant statement, but nuff said by all the rest. The 80s ruled, my diapers were just hardening!

  • Brings back memories of high school.

  • amazing likeness to david bowie and i can see mick jagger in him lol,Great song

  • how would they dress!

  • @aten the thought of bowie lets dance period struck me before i saw youre comment def a classic

  • Great song! And he totally looks like Bowie...

  • love this song!!!!

  • Caroline talks to you softly sometimes

She says, "I love you" and "Too much"

  • Remember jumping on stage with these guys in Brighton in the 80's! A great song/ film.

  • love to be back in the 80's time capsule....luv ya richard butler. mwaaahhhhhh...

  • The sax on this is so good. Mars Williams was the guy that played the sax on the reissued version - also played on Catch My Fall for Billy Idol. That dude is terrific. I think it's him here..

  • I wonder what they felt like to have a song that they released originally in 1981, to be brought out again in 1986 because of the popularity of a movie, most songs don't get a second life like that unless its another band doing a cover of it years later. The 1981 version sounds more raw new wave and the 1986 version sounds more up-beat pop oriented because of the sax, both versions are good put being as I prefer new wave more, the 1981 version is my choice, though I have both versions on CD

  • I love the Furs!!!!!

  • I love their songs brilliant :) makes me feel so much happier

  • It was like 1980-81. The Spiders opened at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. The were forgetable. Then the Furs or Fuzz as they were known. Then Iggy Pop. Now, he is NOT forgetable. What a lovely night. 3 pounds from the thief. it was worth it.

  • "If Mick Jagger and David Bowie had a baby together .."

You hit it right on the head with that one...

I used to think there was noway he could sing like he does live till I watched the live concert with him and the Killers.....pretty good even now..

I was born in 83' so I was really young in the 80's (really!!) but my parents (more mom) would just pump songs like this and I can't tell you how much I love the 80's!!! It just seemed like sooo much fun..

Cheers to the 80's and live on forever!!!

  • MISS THIS ERA!

  • @lumeriam I also do miss the 80's.

  • for sure, the bowie/jagger union--four or five really fantastic songs from the Furs, which is a lot more than anyone produces!

  • great song and ya he does sound like david bowie and even looks like him a little

  • It sounds feakilly like Bowie

  • come back !! the bands of now could never match this !

  • @reecedrb Good news! They have gotten back together since 2007. :-)

  • agree 80's best time for music in UK& US

  • Richard Butler I love youuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is how real rock n roll sounds like, not matchbox 20 and those other bands...

  • Greatest voice in Alternative Rock...singers have been trying to duplicate Richards sound for 25 years now.

  • this was classic 80's thinking now trying too hard as the David Bowie personna

  • Oh yes!!!!! nothing more to hear for a song like 80's MAN!!!!!

  • Yeah you guys are right the 80's music was the best hands down.

  • The bassist lives right beside me XD

  • Furs on at the Ritz in October...

  • the 1980's was an amazing time where it wasnt about going double platinum. it wasnt about the money....they music spoke to your heart and soul, and the bands loved that,. it was for the fans.....

  • Considering that abject disgrace of their duet in the 80's it isn't too much of a stretch that they may have fornicated... alas, the furs were sporned before the caped crusaders made an abomination of the vandelas classic! funny notion though.

  • ..tonight Matthew.....I'm going to be Molly Ringwald from that movie with Harry Dean Stanton....

  • Saw The Furs in Santa Clara County, California at One Step Beyond late 80's, tiny club in an industrial area of Silicon Valley and unforgettably awesome...

  • Damn he's thin there.

  • Gdd say we all are together in scary black hold hands and let go .. 777

  • i fucking loved that movie

  • I did a Show with them about 11 years ago in Tonawanda NY ,at the Reviera Theater, they were amazing and the nicest guys to work with

  • Talk about channeling David Bowie. Wow. They were great during the 80's. Huge hitmakers for a couple of pops. They owed John Hughes big time. Check out Love My Way.

  • Isn't there an John Hughes movie named after this song? I ABSOLUTELY love Psychedelic Furs. I have no doubt about the quality of music came out in the 70s and 80s England. I have a gigantic list. The Fall, The Clash, Smiths, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen... I can go on but there are some of the best bands ever who influenced and changed music for good!!! I cherish each one of their brilliant works! Long live them!!!

  • lead singer kind of looks david bowie

  • I think its intentional. Some of their songs follow Bowie-n style. Especially if you listened to Love My Way.

  • If Mick Jagger and David Bowie had a baby together ....

  • LOL! Bang on.

  • haha so true....

  • @atenhotep I was thinking more Joan Rivers and the Grinch had a love child.

  • @atenhotep OMG! Soooo true!!!

  • @atenhotep And somewhat reminds me of Johnny Rotten.

  • @atenhotep i thought david bowie as soon as it started, then saw ur comment...lol

  • @atenhotep

    And Billy Idols lol xD

    threesome

  • @atenhotep

    That's SO funny! LOL

  • @atenhotep that is so accurate.....funny:)

  • @atenhotep + John Lydon !

  • @nobbilc LMFAO AT YOU 2...SO TRUE THO LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL too funny

  • @atenhotep i was thinking if Johnny rotten and David Bowie had a love child

  • @superzapper agreeddddd :)

  • Un-fucking-believeable. I first saw this film in the 80's. This song gives me goosepimples. Out-fucking-standing!

  • Fabulous live band, in fact one of the best. Butler is one of a kind, amazing stage presence & fabulous style. The songs are so poetically brilliant & hip. Plus they use a caliber sound engineer. I hate when you go see a band & they sound awful live because the sound engineer is deaf.

  • The one who insists he's first in line (for the throne) is the last to remember her name. He's walking around in some dress she wore (A Queen) but still the jokes the same. PRICELESS!

  • i love this song and the movie

  • ahh, that voice... what is it about husky voiced singers that's so effing appealing?

  • It may be neither Richard Butler?

  • Comment removed

  • Is that David Bowie or Scott Weiland?? :p

  • @willprich No, this is Richard Butler who was the lead singer for Psychedelic Furs, broke up formed Love Spit Love, and got back together with the Furs in 2007.

  • I love rock stars...... :P

  • She's the girl in your (our) fantasy!!

    Just read the lyric;)

  • Caroline laughs and // It's raining all day // She loves to be one of the girls // She lives in the place // In the side of our lives // Where nothing is // Ever put straight // She turns herself round // And she smiles and she says // 'This is it' // // 'That's the end of the joke' // And loses herself // In her dreaming and sleep // And her lovers walk // Through in their coats //

    Pretty in pink // Isn't she? // Pretty in pink // Isn't she? //

  • All of her lovers // All talk of her notes // And the flowers // That they never sent // And wasn't she easy // And isn't she // Pretty in pink // The one who insists // He was first in the line // Is the last to // Remember her name // He's walking around // In this dress // That she wore // She is gone // But the joke's the same //

    Pretty in pink // Isn't she? // Pretty in pink // Isn't she? //

  • Caroline talks to you // Softly sometimes // She says // 'I love you' and // 'Too much' // She doesn't have anything // You want to steal // Well // Nothing you can touch // She waves // She buttons your shirt // The traffic // Is waiting outside // She hands you this coat // She gives you her clothes // These cars collide // Pretty in pink // Isn't she? // Pretty in pink // Isn't she?

  • @visaramusic thanks bud!!

  • Damn, he does look alot like Bowie! But still unique in his own right. This was a great time to come of age!! Man, we had alot of FUN back then!! I think FUN is a word that escapes most young people these days. We never thought songs and bands like this would one day be "classic" Damn!!!! Makes me feel old but I wouldn't trade it for anything going on today!! Please read my first comment and if someone can help that would be great!!!!

  • I'm hate to admit it! I have listened to this song 35 trillion times, and still don't get the lyrics! I've come up with a few ideas but they still elude me. Can someone PLEEZ explain these to me? I am a song writer myself and love all different types of music but these have me stumped. I was 19 when this song came out and was into the 70's (Steppenwolf, KISS, AC/DC, Kansas, etc.) All my band buds thought I lost my mind when I said I loved the FURS!!! If someone could help, I'd be VERY thankful!!

  • Hi: I have to admit that understanding the lyrics of this song is very tricky. The band (and others) have laughed about the fact that the movie makers were totally unaware of the songs true meaning. It is not complementing a girl on how attractive she looks in her pink dress or outfit - it's about a girl who was routinely used by insincere lovers who obviously thought she loked "pretty in pink" (ie, in her birthday suit, totally naked). Hope this helps.

  • @Victoriano67

Hi and thanks very much for your comment, truly revealling. I never thought its true meaning had to do with nakedness and how lovers treated her. A great song and performance

  • You see how indebted he was to Bowie at the time.

But mainly in terms of affect and style.

In terms of songwriting, if you strip away the glam, his real antecedent is Dylan.

  • @DungLoad

With a little nod to Lou Reed's "Sweet Jane."

  • LOL

...thats all i can say :D

  • for me, this song is a 'happy tragedy'

  • I know its not but thats DAVID BOWIE!

  • This music was so happy. People just want to be depressed now for some reason.

  • I understand your sentiment, in terms of tempo, but if you think the sentiment of this song is 'happy', I respectfully disagree, This is a tragedy.

  • great catch Lars. One of the greatest tricks a songwriter has is putting a tragic song to happy music. or the flipside of happy songs set to dirge type beats. Glad someone pays attention to these things.

  • its good to know there are some smarties out there.

  • Thank you. Ive never thought too much about it, but I bet that from the time this song came out thru today there's a bunch of people that think of it as just a fun song to dance to, or they think of Molly Ringworm. I loved Rich's work with his separate band; Love Spit Love.....great stuff too. Ive never compared his voice to Bowie's. Rich's voice has so much more natural distortion/texture than Bowie has...not a Bowie slam at all...not hate mail, please

  • Love Spit Love - sadly overlooked, but I agree.

  • @Larsbolander

too right. it's like nobody gets past the lovely music and listen to the lyrics and the tone of his voice when he sings 'isn't she...'

  • shit great song I have just heard social distortion´s version. Mhhh that guy in the mic, it could be Bowie´s twin.

  • great vocals from rich

  • WooHoo... I'm going to see them soon!!!!

  • I realised that after I took a closer look. That is so neat. I net you all had a blast.

  • Is that David Bowie? WOW didn't know he was part of Psychedelic Furs! Awesome!

  • omg its the 80's

  • Yeah. The 80s was when pop and rock peaked. It's been on the decline ever since. The 80s music was the best.

  • @believer06 I would disagree, there was some terrible rubbish in the 80's as well as every other decade,The 90's had some great bands, radiohead, the verve, blur, smashing pumpkins, nirvana, pulp, eels, gomez, pearl jam, primal scream, the prodigy and many more, all sounding fresh at the time.

  • @okee9 In the 80s, they had something for everyone's taste. You cant say that for the music in th 90s+. In the 80s, I would turn on any radio and never have to turn the dial. In the 80s, I favored Heavy metal, but dug music from other genres as well. The Furs are hardly metal, but i really dug them. great music is great music whatever genre.

  • Nice mullets on the drummer and guitarist as well.

  • I like the purple Jedi outfit.

  • Good one!!!! Now it's all I see :-)

  • "Riiiiiiiiichaaaaarrrrrrrrd Buuuuuuuuutlerrrrrrrrrrrrr why must you always sing that way?

    Riiiiiiiiiichaarrrrrrrrrrrrrd Buuuuuuuuuutlerrrrrrr

Why must you always sing that way?"

  • very good..still i preffer the social distortion version =x

  • Thank you John Hughes~great movie~Great band:)

  • I agree, RIP John Hughes.... Thanks for the movies that made my adolescence

  • R.I.P. John

  • thank you John Hughs

  • nice husky voice and GREAT BAND i love the movie so much! 80's music was so amazing then.

  • funny, i just borrowed this dvd from my syster this week-end. Love the song and the movie.

  • O my I can't stop watching John Ashton!

  • I can't stop watching them at 0:37

  • I didn't know Molly Ringwald sang!

  • Dead ringer for Bowie!

  • I was just thinking that! Maybe it's the expressions he's making too?

  • sad... they never got popular enough...

  • WTF happened to this group?

    They were good.

  • wow,,,the guitarist with the shades looks like andy taylor of duran,,,,anyone agree,,,

  • looks more like shirley from eastenders.

  • sorry i misunderstood, i thought you meant singer lol

  • All these years and I still can't figure out what this song is trying to say. I like it though. Also, I don't remember noticing that the lead singer is a dead ringer for David Bowie in this video.

  • pretty = hot, in pink = naked.

pretty in pink = hot when naked

  • The Fir's rock !!!great song thanks!!!

  • A Band Called Bert

  • and is that bowies old guitar player charlie sexton

  • No, it,s John Ashton, the Fur's guitar player.

  • STILL listening to these dudes, after all them decades... The Furs rule...

  • Bowie meets Lou reed.

    Great stuff.... Happy Daze

  • oh yes....lived thru this period, and it was great thanks to these cats.

RB has such charisma and knows how to perform. He might have some Bowie in him.....but he is still unique.

One of my ideal icons bands of the late 70's and 80's.

What a great sound and use of metaphors.

Please PF, give us more!! I am jonesin!!!

  • omg look at the smug mullet on bass

  • What is this... Bowie karaoke???

  • i gotta admit i like this club type version of P.I.P but wtf is Richard wearing? he looks like a triangle

  • Dude, if God exists, He's David Bowie XD

  • If God exists, he/she would reintroduce the 80s.

  • that's it dude haha

  • Best Song Ever TOTP Happy Dayz :)

  • I love how Richard Butler looks all cool and shit, and Tim looks like a dunce. How on Earth did mullets ever become popular?

  • OH LOOK IT'S DAVID BOWIE... wait waht?

I love the psychedelic furs. <3

  • Thanks for the upload..

    It makes me young again..

    Rgds

    Dubaiboyz

  • haha it makes you FEEL

    young ;)

  • One of the greatest voices of the 80ies. Funny how he seemed to hesitate between Johnny Rotten and Ziggy Stardust for the looks :-) A child of his generation.

  • Yeah... David Bowie screamed in my head when I started watching...

  • I saw these dudes at Mary Washington College in about spring 1983. The Divinyls opened and the house rocked!

  • One of the great things about going to college back in the '80s was how many great bands used to come and play on campus. Saw the Furs, the English Beat, the Hooters, A Flock of Seagulls, Cactus World New, the Replacements and so many others back then. Loved those days.
