there is a grey plug under the hood (if I remeber correctly it is plugged into or near the master cylinder) unplug it and your atrack is disengaged, now you can have fun in two wheel!! simply plug back in and its good to go again.

@dmcgrathudt ok. h2 hummers and H1 military humvees are not the same. they look similar, and that is all. an H2 is simply a chevy tahoe with a different body. if you do take your hummer on any trails, you would know its ground clearance is laughable. it would get its very lightly (if at all) armored underside stuck on anything over about 10 inches high. Like i said. Its a tahoe. Just with a different body. Toyota is world renowned for having the toughest most reliable vehicles.

@montgum77 The H2 is actually quite different than a Tahoe. First off it is on the chassis of a 2500 Suburban with the front and rear overhangs shortened. The suspension is the same as a 2500 if it isnt equipped with the air ride. With the air ride you get 2 or 3 more inches of ground clearance in the back. It is only available on H2's.

@montgum77 also The Transfer case is only found in the H2. It has the Vortec 6.0 V8 the Tahoe has the Vortec 5.3 V8. The rear differential in the H2 is a electronic locking differential. Arguably the best kind of locking diff on the market. The Truck has better side slope stability and approach and descent than any other truck besides the H1. Also a winch is available. Stock 35 inch tires. It also has removable step bars. At the base this is a 2500 Suburban..

I have taken my H2 to trails, mud and rock and have neve been high centered. I have air ride also and helps quite a bit in trail and rock driving, not to mention towing. Yes the old yota with the 22r was the shiz, but the new trucks are just like any other. Oh and i have a 3 old 22r yota's.. so i dont hat them either!

H2's are also better family cars. The doors in the FJ are not conducive to having children. Just saying. A lot of things concern a car purchase. These are not even in the same class in both type and price range. Why don't people understand these things?

I'll give ya that, H2"s are "better family cars" but I wouldn't brag about that when it comes to off roading! So if its toting the family around, why not just buy the Tahoe or a 3/4 ton pickup? As far as towing capacity, yes the H2 is superior to the FJ, the only problem is it doesn't have the HP/torque to "move" 8200 lbs. I completely agree with your assessment of the H1. It's obviously superior to either of these SUV's. But keep in mind that the H1 is 6 inches wider than an H2. The H1 was not designed for tight trailing as the Wrangler or FJ were.

I drive a 2001 Jeep WJ Limited 4.7 and think it's superior to either of theses newer suvs.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "wheelbase alone" not being able to tow 13k safely. That wheelbase has the 3/4 ton pickup axles tht "are" rated at towing 13,000 lbs I'm pretty sure. The fact that they put the H1 clone body and cadillac interior and softer running gear is why it can;t haul 13K. I've ownd a 2000 jepp and they are fine vehicles, just not as well rouinded as the FJ imho.

I got nothing against H2's, but for (roughly) the MSRP of a base H2 ($61K), you could buy a FJ or Xterra, supercharge it, lift it, add rims, tires, plates, snorkel and still have 28K left in the bank. And that 4.0L engine in the FJ is a great engine, ask anyone with a high mileage Tacoma....

A Nissan Xterra's 4.0 Litre V6 engine outruns the H2... An H2 gets about 0-60 in 8 seconds while the Xterra (Mine at least) can run it in about 7 seconds. Not to mention the gas mileage. Just because a piece of shit hummer has an LS engine from a Corvette doesn't mean its tailored for offroading.

Try driving an FJ and compare it with the H2 and tell me how much better the Fj feels because its so much lighter than the H2. Its easier to maneuver in terrain as well.

I had to put in 4wd to get the Atrack off. I have tried to play in the mud in 2wd, but couldn't get the traction control off.

I blew out power steering pump doing those doughnuts. Toyota covered it for me.

Atrac and VSC are different.There is a hack to turn VSC (traction control) off and allow drifting. Check Toyota FJ Cruiser Forums...Looks like fun-
