@amiaminot I can guarantee you that your amp is in need of a major servicing at this point. I just had my Dad's MC2105 serviced and although it sounded great, its transient response was very slow / flabby. The capacitors were leaking voltage in a major way. After a full recap, cleaning and rebiasing, the amp is much more focused and aggressive yet still casts that monstrously musical soundstage.
@Anderskh That's only true when you are interested in listening to music. If you want your system to also support Home Theater sound reproduction, tube amps absolutely cannot cut the mustard. Note: I'm not talking about multichannel surround system set-ups, just 2-channel goodness.
Awesome amplifier! Check out my McIntosh system posted here on 'YT' recently. In my opinion, the best way to go is with a tubed preamp and a solid state amp. With good speaks, the sound is exquisite, sweet, and very musical.
Yeah, they're nice, but they don't deliver. It's funny how you name Krell, sold one on Ebay a few years ago, sounds like crap compared to the Mc. Nothing compares. You're attempting to compare a Bosendorfer Concert Grand Piano to a Kurzweil Electronic 88 key keyboard. The Kurzweil is very clean, but has no real punch. Taste is unique. Some people like Fillet rare, others prefer New York Strip medium well. We go our separate ways.
,,thanks for the info, the truth be known, I've never had the pleasure to audition those super high dollar goodies because a lack of good retailers around me & 150 miles from any good dealers, however I do own NAD & I can attest it sounds so good, vivid compared to my old Yamaha, Denon stuff I use to own.
Denon isn't bad, but NAD is a bit better. Denon was marketed by name, its still good, but it's name outweighs its distinction, much like Mark Levinson. It's good, but not that good.
Incidentally, you might want to check with Krell directly before purchasing any equipment from them, they just had a recall of their line of 4 of their finest series of amplifiers, the KAV models 250Aa 250a3, 500i and1500
Hi-Quality? LOL!
And Balanced Audio, meh. It's the difference between a 1959 Les Paul and a PRS, we have both. No comparison.
Krell has nice looking units but I think they are just WAY over priced, I believe Pass Labs is more in the affordable range & have high reviews as well as Music Fidelity.
Pass Labs is quite good. Take a look at Jeff Roland, Perreaux, Conrad-Johnson, McCormack and Plinius, which are all very high end stuff with looks and a big sticker price, but exquisitely clean sound and striking power.
Great solid state Mac amp from the 1967-68 era, rated at 105 watts rms/channel into 8 ohms with no more than 0.2% T.H.D. if I remember the specs right?, it has been many years since I looked at the specs, all in all a great conservatively rated amp!!...Lloyd.
I remember very well a high end stereo dealer that had Bozak Concert Grands built in the wall. There were 8 12 " woofers. They played all music very well, but what I remember most was the Wurlitzer pipe organ that pulsated the floors and walls . It sounded like you were in a cathedral.
Il est très beau et musical le Mcintosh Mc 2105 a un look indémodable avec ces yeux bleus et sa face en verre une qualité très proche des amplis a tubes .
I hope you have not put your McIntosh on top of a working speaker. If you have, you should remove it from there or you will create a dry-solder park very soon.
Makes me miss the mcintosh we had. It was my dad's but we had it (preamp) with some Heil ESS and parasound mono blocks. :( I miss that - nothing he did sounded as good as that setup.
very nice sounding amp always high quality with them. Would probably get one if i had the spare cash. I currently enjoy my Pioneer A91-D from 1988 which does everything a good amp should do plus more and goes the extra mile to produce amazing sound quality which would give that amp a run for its money and make you think why you spend huge amounts of money on high end stuff!!!
I got the same amplifier in combination with the c26 preamp of mcintosh. Wonderfull amps and still you can get everything for it :)
Thats why mcintosh stays up to value ;), you can still can get every part for it. And there build for life. I also have a Dynaco *one of last produced in usa* st80 valve amp triode/penthode is in the box.
I use a modified sony xa50es cdplayer, And sonus faber concertino with rel quake subwoofer on the mcintosh. I enjoy it like always be happy whit this amp.
I'll take sound purity over power any day.Eg:tube amps. I have always liked Mac. I have listened to some Air Tight amps that were astounding.

Tube pre-amps are the best way to go.
I never heard a solid state pre-amp that sounded as good as my old tube Audio Research.
Except for maybe my Rappaport witch is kinda rare.

@Anderskh Just curious what model pre-amp you have? Sp 8, 9 or even newer?

Does McIntosh make any units with bass & treble controls ?
CreativeCritisizm 2 years ago
definitely. check out their pre-amps or integrated units. this is a power amp only.

Yes, but only on their receivers. Their stand alone amplifiers require a preamp to adjust tone and balance etc.

I was a great amp that I sold last week. After 25 years it sounded perfect. I sold it because it had too much power for my speakers -- Snell EII's.
Now I'm running a McIntosh 225 tube amp that is magical! but low power...
