  • one of the best things about youtube is that i can watch mj games over and over. thanks hoops for these games. its such a joy to watch.

  • 3:10

    NBA 2K11 cover?

  • i didnt come here for the basketball i just came here to see the playoff Xiis...damn....too sick .....April 2012

  • id like to see kobe do this when he's 34..

  • ...The Bullets are the team of the future.... LMAO. NOT. MJ is still the GOAT though!

  • AJ playoff 12's go HAM!

  • who dislike this vid??? they are idiot and dumb...

  • he is really the greatest player of all time, everytime I watch his game, my reaction is just. WOw...hooo...yeah...amazing... men he is just simply be the best of all time men... he is my no. 1 Idol...ever....

  • jordan really take over in the closing moments of the game, he raise his team from drowning and believe that he can beat a team, compare to Kobe, sometimes gasol, bynum, odom and even artest take charge of the game...now stop comparing Kobe to Mj, cause his so far far far100000000000000000x beyond to Mj...

  • 4:19 ...I came.

  • the prettiest midrange jumper ever

  • I can't understand why Pippen would say Lebron is going to be the greatest basketball player of all time. He hasn't won a championship yet. Let him do something first. He doesnt compare to Jordan.

  • so what if jordan traveled on one play, does that make the other 30 shots he stroked with ease not mean anything?

  • What does man does is amazing!

  • @2:40 Look at Mike palm that ball like a grapefruit. Phil Jackson said That Michael had million dollar hands

  • at 5:02 mark just shows why double teaming on the perimeter against him is a no no

  • One of my favorite games by MJ.

  • Kobe is the best ever! ... Sike we all know it's Jordan even tho I'm a Kobe fan.

  • sickest midrange game ever! and I remember watching this on TV when I was younger, that shot at 4:00 was awesome!

  • This and the points record in playoff at the age of 34 and 55 points?

  • I remember this game!

  • Bryant,James???? They are going to retire without reaching this supremacy.

  • MJ was ridiculous with those stop and pops and the fakes on Chaney were sick. MJ was in a serious zone, for real.

  • ....I even loved watching him miss, just to see that twirling, floating jumper. Most unstoppable moves of all time, in order:

    1. Michael's fadeaway

    2. Kareem's skyhook

    3. Iverson's crossover

    4. Kobe's fade

  • @jagemobe umm... I'm going with kareem first (nba all time points leader)

  • @scatesify can't go wrong either way...but I'm sticking with Mike!

  • @jagemobe Kobe fade??? Mike's fadeaway came later- his finish around the rim LEGENDARY Kareem's skyhook Shaq's back down Bird/Malone squaring up Iverson's cross Akeem's dream shake Barkley's post up and then .... Kobe's face down TRES, his fade is not unstoppable it is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT even for him, as he barely makes them floating out of bounds.... MJ actually backs you down, twists then fades ... away Kobe just turns, fading a couple of feet when he looks you down-- its money though.
  • @joshvn715 very nice list.

  • @jagemobe

kobes fade is a bite off michael that can be had.

iversons crossover is a carry Tim Hardaway for example had a crossover 100 times better.

you dont count Olajuwons baseline fadeaway? or Larry Birds step back jumper?

  • @Dkouts57 I don't consider no-calls relevant...otherwise everyone probably travels. In any case, you could always make your own list lol

  • Comment removed

  • @Dkouts57 Yup and add Hakeem's Dream Shake

  • @jagemobe Iverson's crossover? Gimmie a break - How bout any power move Shaq made between 94 and 02 that is unstoppable. And Kobe's fadeaway isn't that good either. He scores mostly when he's faced up to the basket.

  • @jagemobe has anyone blocked jordans fade?

  • @airHaakon If so, probably only in a weakside help situation with the secondary defender coming over. In any cas,e I don't recall ever seeing it, so I can only say probably/possibly.

  • @jagemobe Ive seen him fade four defenders and he didnt get blocked and he only barely missed so i think the possibilty of anyone blocking him is close to 0%

  • @jagemobe yeah i reckon dirks one legged turn around J is gotta be up there too. hes proved it these play offs.

  • @jagemobe 5. Olajuwon's dreamshake post moves

  • @jagemobe 5. Olajuwon's dreamshake

  • @jagemobe 5. Dirk's fadeaway

  • @jagemobe don't forget Lebrons travel lol jk

  • the scary thing is chaney was actually defending him pretty good..god i miss watchin mj man

  • Chaney did a great job against Jordan. He played extremely good in offense and defense.

MJ had to shoot with Chaney hand on his face all the time

  • not many players could socre 55 in playoffs in his age.(34 yrs old in 1997)

I remember Gary Payton and D.Wilkins all had been much weaker in that age(34 yrs old), but MJ still could make 29 point per game.

  • 3:56-3:57 that was a beautiful shot and the only person who could do it was MJ congratulations for your induction to the basketball hall of fame you deserve it!

  • Jordan...Nothin Left 2 Say....Greatest

  • weird that he would end his career with the bullets

  • 3:59 was nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:40 Thats a great example of Jordans ability to read the defense. Man under the basket turned his head for a moment, away he goes.

  • great observation

  • how tall was michael jordan when he played?

  • 6ft 6

  • MJ the G.O.A.T.

  • Beautifull play 2:44!!!!!!!!!!

  • I got this game on tape. I think I might have been in 7th or 8th grade. Damn that was great performance.

  • midrange shooting perfection..

    no basketball perfection

  • lol damn i remember watching this....that damn shot while falling out of the baseline was nuts....GOAT

  • The points 48 and 49 are one of my favorites basket by MJ, and you rarely see that move in videos ,,,, fantastic ,,,, Since I discovered Hoopsencyclopedia, my life changed, thanks !!!

  • MJ was 35 yrs old, still the best.

    And...nice shoe

  • god

  • there was alot of great teams that were stacked with talent in the mid 90's like orlando, golden state, seatle and washington but injuries, trades and jordans bulls prevented that.

  • i was looking for someone to mention kobe and found it

  • At 3:29 was that three steps MJ took? If so, he traveled and the ref missed it.

  • Yeah, skip-jump off the dribble. According to Naismith's rules it'd be a travel but in the modern game you can get away with it most of the time. It's because you pick up your dribble as you are taking two quick steps, then you take your two "legal" steps. In the flow of the game it's hard to catch.

  • what is Naismith's rules?

  • it means the original rules that were written when the game was first invented by James Naismith

  • Once he got the left shoulder by the defender - going to his right - you might as well just book the two points. Greatest of all time.

  • 55 points in a playoff game with sound fundamentals and an unstoppable mid-range game.

  • where in the hell was muggsy bouges or manute bol

  • Muggsy Bogues and Manute Bol played together in Washington only for the 1988 season, Bogues' rookie year. when the '97 season ended, Bogues was still w/ the Charlotte Hornets; as for Bol, his NBA career ended when he suffered an injury early in the '95 season against Bogues' Hornets.

  • calbert chaney should have sued Washington for workman's comp after this one lol

  • that hang-time at 4:00 is speechless

  • I'm speechless. Simply the Greatest One. Last January I was in Chicago and I didn't miss the chance to visit the statue outside the United Center. WOW!

  • Wasn't this the Bullets team with Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, and Rasheed Wallace?

  • yes

in this series Jordan went a perfect 15-15 from the foul line

  • 3:55-3:58

    WHAT??

  • If the New York Thugs couldnt stop Jordan in the early 90's nobody could

  • Yeah and count those late 80's rumble Pistons into that one ...

  • and you telling me you can compare Jordan to anybody. please!

  • "michael jordan can do no wrong"

    aint it the truth

  • all mid-range game.. so money mj

  • Some of the moves Michael puts on are just sick!He played Cheney like a puppet!

  • That one fadeaway had some hangtime, wow!!!!!

  • bullets the team of the future?????

  • Washington Wizards used to be called Washington Bullets in 1997.

  • look at the shot at 4:15... he almost trips and still manages to pull one off...

    thats awesomeness

  • nice vid, I love how you never see Jordan pose like a badass or point to himself like all the homos do today when they make a shot

  • What happened to Calbert Cheaney ?

  • Chicago crowd is silly, you don't wait until he has 30 to get into it

  • Well when he averages 34 ppg in the playoffs, you don't notice anything out of the ordinary until you realize he has 30 in the third quarter.

  • Nothing as good as seeing Jordan school youngsters in his 12's :). Nice shot at 1:58.

  • This has the infamous fading fallaway out of bounds baseline shot. I see Kobe do his best fakery on this move, and a poster replied to the effect, "that was awesome, only Kobe could do that!" LOL

  • They're the team of the future. I think they won like 5 rings in the 2000's. What a franchise!!

  • anyone know how many playoff 50 point games jordan had?

  • 31 and 8 in the playoffs for 39 total. The 8 in the playoffs is a record - Wilt is 2nd with 4.

  • oh good lookin, tryin to compare him to ai, ai got 3, he my fav but mike is the best

  • Yeah, I'm hoping for AI to get a few more to best Wilt for 2nd place. It's all about the real season.

  • the real season? its all about the playoffs that mean way more than regualr season

  • UH, that's what I was referring to.

  • oh i see

  • Didn't AI get all 3 in the same series??

  • AI got 2 against the Toronto series and 1 against the Hornets a few years later.

  • 2001 and 2003 right??

  • suk my big juicy tenderized boobies

  • why dont u just google it, take u 5 seconds to get answer.

  • Ok..explain me how does a 34 year old pulls a fade away like that at 3:55? That's just unrealll.

    He's just too much.

  • I LOOOVE THE 97 playoffs. Those shots, the creativity, those 12's. EVERTHING is jus great i guess.

  • Yeah, that shot was sick!

  • whoa i meant phil gave him the greenlight for 60 lol

  • yeah, you're right bballmemories, i even remember how the said phil jackson gave him the greenlight for 3.he stopped going for 60 because he wasn't in "his zone" and didn't want to take his team out of it's fluidity.

  • i was there

  • The week before this game, the Bulls played their last reg. season game against the Knicks on NBC and NBC made a big fuss how MJ needed to score 60+ to raise his ppg back to 30 for the season. Jordan only finished with 33-34 pts. This 55 pt game was on NBC the following week, perhaps to show everyone that he was still able to score at will. He could've gone for 60 had he not tried to get everyone involve in the 3rd qtr (he only took 5 shots and scored 9 pts in 3rd qtr)

  • damn I rember channel 5 use to be fucked up with the line sown the middle and the double vision you must be from chicago

  • Close - from NYC. During these years, I was living in downtown Manhattan near too many tall buildings.

  • Jordan and Kobe are great players. Jordan by far is the better player and Kobe has a chance to go down as a top 5 player from his own era. Jordan should be compared to Shaq and Duncan who are the only leaders with multi-championships. Read my channel description. I guarantee you that it teaches you more about the game and the history of MJ and the history of Kobe.

  • whats amazing is how he is still playing like this past his prime. My friends, this is not Jordan at his best. This is a 34 year old player past his prime performing like this. amazing!!

  • that falling fadeaway at 3:58 is brilliant! How about those stats? 33.9 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 6.2 APG and 50% Shooting in the playoffs!!

  • he said the Washington Bullets(Wizards) are the future of the league... man the Wizards/Bullets suck even with Agent Zero, Caron Butler, Antawn Jameson, and Antonio Daniels. Gilbert Arenas should play with a real team like San Antonio, Dallas or Detriot

  • Wasn't this the game that MJ had said in a press conference"I told Tex after the game'Sorry, Tex. I forgot all bout that triangle. I was in that zone'"?

  • Yes! He said the Bullets were the team of the future! Too bad it never panned out that way.

  • They could have been. Who knows what a healthy MJ would do with the Wizards? I'm sure Michael could take them deep in the playoffs in '01 and '02 if it wasnt for all those injury upsets

  • lol, MJ was killing them with the simple stop and pop. He was so good at that, it just looked effortless. Few players including Kobe could do the stop and pop at either side as well as MJ.

  • And it's the playoffs. By the way he was one of the greatest defenders all time, but he didn't have to play much of it against the Bullets.

  • A sick 63% from the field. Amazing. And its in the flow of the offense which is why the pros, analysts and people in the industry appreciate it.

  • I remember watching this game on a Sunday afternoon. By the time he hit 40 points I was mesmerized. That dunk on Howard was sick.

  • man did he killed from the paint or what? everytime he stepped inside u knew..swooshhhh, and that fadeawayyy was off the charts..

  • MJ said it himself: THE BULLETS [or Wizards] ARE THE TEAM OF THE FUTURE. He was kind of foreshadowing in that statement, because he would be joining Washington four years later. It turns out they were so good, he wanted to play for them when he got the chance, and he did.

  • He schooled all of the Bullets, for 55 Points, my goodness.

  • My nephew was born the day of this game. His mom told me that his dad was glued to the T.V. It's amazing how many tough shots he hit.

Mike mentioned the future, consider Christ; what He has done in dying for us, and your future with or without Him.

  • i like your style of preaching, but jesus christ didnt die for your sin.

  • sure He did

  • wen MJ shoots, he twists in da air its like he walkin or sum fink. ders gonna b great b.bal players but aint nobody gonna have da talent dat mj had. ppl will try n do his moves bt dey'll neva eva b lyk him. MJ ALL DAY BABY

  • Dat sic fadeaway

  • maskir is right about kobe not be able to palm the ball like MJ.

  • common people stop comparing mj and kobe, we know dat mj is the greatest and the rest of the world is pretenders. Only the lakers fans think kobe=mj, and dats the only one they got right now. so, enjoy the ride lakers fans from CA to CO.

  • Thanks..That is a great video!

  • Have this game on tape at home in my collection.

    wonderful memories. Brings me back

  • When Kobe "Quit" in game 7 against Phoenix, just to prove a point in the most important game of the year. He bacame the biggest DONKEY in the history of the game. Punk!

  • i agree with celenas kobe is not consistent he sucks ass he cant doit in th playoffs unlike mj.

  • what's funny is there are many players play as good as kobe rite now, kobe got owned by arenas and wade in last two weeks,so kobe can not even represent the younger generation as lebron james, wade, arenas, anthony are all great players ,just wait and see how many more times kobe gets owned by those guys IN THIS SEASON...i like kobe, don't get me wrong..

  • Quit bringing up Kobe, you brain dead idiots. The only reason you morons so desperately compare him to Jordan is because you arrogant jerks are from L.A. and you want everything in the world to go your way. If Kobe had played for any other team, like the Bucks, no one would ever try and compare him. Only moronic people from Los Angeles. Assholes

  • 2.44 minutes, fakes, dribbles, goes base line with no space, catches the ball and dunks doing all with one hand, see if kobe with his small hand can do this I don't think...

  • Every category that you compare between the two will not even out. If he ever was truly destined to be THE G.O.A.T, he had to start when he was a rookie.

MJ averaged 28pg in his rookie season, Kobe averaged 9pg. MJ's career Average is 30.12pg, Kobe's is 23.9pg!

  • and don't mention the playoffs stats where the legends should born,Mj playoffs stats 33,4 ppg is no match for kobe's 22,9 ppg

  • I know every person who doesen't command any knowledge of Basketball will always be on Kobes nuts because all they see is the 81 points and the ads that promote Kobe. If you know basketball, and study the past greats, you will know that Kobe is far from a great (yet). I don't have any doubts that Kobe will become a great in the future, he is a great player, but comparing him to Jordan is stupid.

  • Comparing Kobe to MJ is a joke. Every stat the KB42PAH rattled off has to do with scoring. Show me a Kobe highlight that doesn't involve making baskets. Show me a season where his shooting is *consistent*. Prove to me that he'll come through in high-pressure games (*cough*2006playoffs*cough*). The thing that set Jordan so far apart from everyone else was his completeness as a player: five Michael Jordans could beat five Kobe Bryants.

  • Co-Sign! Its so stupid to even think of comparing Kobe to MJ. MJ's ultra-competitive drive and his command of basketball skills alone is far greater than that of Kobe. Kobe has yet to prove that he is even close to MJ, he can copy him all he wants but it won't bring him close to MJ. Kobe essentially "Choked" in Game 7 and everyone knows that! His 1st real chance to prove himself was in the 04 Finals V Pistons, and he failed. One of those games, he didn't score a single point.

  • I was at this game. Only playoff game I've ever seen, and it was a good one.

  • Man...what it is to have hands that huge. No wasted movement when going up for the dunk.

  • Jordan jumper... man.

  • one of the biggest differences between mike and bryant is that mike could and would take it to the hole with a vengeance, bryant sets up to take a lot of lazy 3 pointers, of which only 30% go in.

  • Can Kobe dunk from the free throw line? Nobody has hangtime like Mike...nobody..

  • he can he did during high school

  • Jordan stamped NBA History. Bryant has NBA moments.

  • BTW hoopsencyclopedia i find it interesting that jordans seems to always prefer to swing/double clutch his right leg to square up.

even when he goes left he stops on a dime and uses his right leg as the one to create space with. When kobe drives left and decides to fade , he swings the opposite leg ( left leg) to square up. Just thought it was interesting that they do that a little differntly.

  • Actually, KB42PAH, Kobe always swings his right leg out as well. That's the "fundamentally sound" way of shooting a fadeaway if you're right handed. The only times when he kicks out his left leg is when he had lost his balance. Their fadeaways are just about identical.

When Kobe stops on a dime left, he is usually balanced, going up with both legs about the same

  • Kobe "should" have had awards. Kobe "should have" gotten past the first round. Hell, if Kobe's decision-making were better, he might be able to shoot 48% for one season -- you never know. Comparing Kobe to Jordan is a JOKE. And no, Jordan never scored 55 in a half, but he did score 40+ in a half several times. And LOL @ talking about Pippen like he was even 60% as good as the Shaq that Kobe played with to get his (OMG!) 3 rings.

  • The offense wasn't even built for kobe in the 3peat lakers dynasty. The center point, the focal point of that system of that Triangle was shaq, I think its incredible that as a 2nd option kobe managed to average 27 ppg througout the championship run.

Lets see what kobe can do with himself these next few seasons.

  • y the hell you tryin to hate, jordan could have scored 100pt. in the first half if he wanted to just because kobe played against the sorriest team in the NBA and scored 81 people wanna think he better than jordan and the defense now is 100x worse than when jordan was playin cause now they let do anything you want like score 81pt., i rest my case and until kobe get 3 more rings then people can be talked about like jordan

  • I disagree I think hobe needs to get 6 rings on his own instead of having them given to him by shaq lol.

  • Hoopsencyclopedia, watch my innate ability 1 and innate ability 2 and the top ten threes video just so you see some of kobes greatness as well.

I think Jordan , Kobe , Magic , Wilt, and Shaq are the top 5 players of all time in that order btw, I think it is obscene that LBJ and wade are even compared to kobe already.

BTW were these tapes orig on VCR , how did you transfer them to a pc

  • Thxs - you are a good fan. I've seen almost every KB game and video so I know what he can do! You're right, you get upset over LJ and Wade being compared to KB because of KB has done - I understand that feeling.

  • I transfer them using Pinnacle Studio. It's a good ways to get your VHS digitized.

  • call me when jordan wins a ring w/o pippen who was not a scrub as many ppl want to think . He averaged 20/7/7

Call me when Jordan scores 2800 points and 180 threes in 1 season.

Call me when Jordan scores 55 IN ONE HALF.

And BTW, kobes best years are still left. He is 28 and will probably play till he is 35, so thats 7 more good years.

I predict he will win a few more scoring titles, win 1 MVP, win 2 more rings, and lead team usa back to gold.

  • You realize MJ scored 3041 in a season right? You realize, Gervin scored 56 in a half? Is he better than KB - no. You realize, needing a lot of threes to score isn't a good thing to rely on? KB's really good, but the chasm is too huge. LJ has a better chance. But getting into 1-1 accomplishments isn't something you want to open.

  • why the hell are you bringing gervin into this...

I am a big fan of jordan and kobe, but i am a bigger fan of kobe just becuase I have followeed his whole career from 1997.

I want to thank you for taking the effort and time to preserve these great videos.

Furthermore, its not fair to compare them yet. As I said Kobe has a good 7 years left, so after that well talk.

  • Just pointing out that single game feats bigger than KB isn't making that player better than KB either. If that was the stick, Wilt would be #1 over all. But, I see, KB is now and you are young. I saw MJ and KB both from day 1 and KB is closest to MJ in many ways but there are big differences too. KB has some time left so let's just watch and see!!!

  • k but did you see my vids innate abiltiy 1 & 2 and Kobes top 10 threes of all time.

SIDENOTE: No way in hell is wilt #1 , all of his stats are inflated, there were very few 7 footers at the time, no 3 point line, no 3 seconds, every foul resulted in FT's

no way, dont disgrace Jordan, Kobe and Magic like that. And i Know he played 48.5 mpg in 1 season and he ran the floor excellently for a 7 footer but comeon. They (MJ, MJ, KB)are all way more skilled than wilt was.

  • You insult the game putting hobe in a category other than being human with the MJ"s hes a poor excuse for a leader.

  • Call me when Kobe wins a ring without Shaq!

Call me when Kobe leads the NBA in scoring for 9 consecutive seasons.

Call me when Kobe leads his team to an NBA record 72-10 season.

Call me when Kobe wins All Star MVP, Season MVP and Finals MVP in a single season.

Call me when Kobe scores more than 50 points in a game at the age of 40.

Call me when Kobe wins a Defensive player of the year award.

I could go on and on.

  • Call me when Kobe blocks 70+ shots in a season ONCE, much less 4 times like Jordan did (including back-to-back seasons of 125 and 131 blocks). Call me when Kobe leads his team out of the first round as "the man," never mind to 6 rings as the man like Jordan. Fact is, Kobe hasn't done anything to merit the comparison.

  • Call me when Kobe shoots 48% for a single season, much less 10 like Jordan did. Call me when Kobe shoots 4-6% above the league average once, much less 6-7 times like Jordan did. Call me when Kobe wins a SINGLE MVP or Finals MVP. Call me when Kobe leads the league in PER or EFF even ONCE, much less 8+ times like Jordan did.

  • Kobe Should already have 2 MVP awards 2002-2003 ( 30/7/7.2.2, team record 50-32) and 2005-2005 (35.4/5/5 team record 45-37).

and call me when jordan can shoot from 30 ft like this... http://youtube.com/watch?v=v7iN2gsm67M

and call me when an 18 year old off the bench takes on kobe like how kobe took jordan on ...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC-kKQMue4g&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Exclusivesoundstation%2Ecom%2Fshowthread%2Ephp%3Ft%3D24627

  • KB takes a lot more threes. He already has 600 more attempts than MJ in his entire career. KB's % is a little better during the regular season but MJ's is better during the playoffs. When it matters, MJ rises. No need to compare until KB does something by himself. Taking a lot of threes isn't going to do it unless he shoots 40% to open some eyes.

  • Call me when Kobe wins a DPOY, or when he averages >2.3 steals/gm even ONCE, much less 8 times like Jordan did. Call me when Kobe averages 40+ in a single playoff series, much less 6 series like Jordan did. Call me when Kobe averages >8 assists/gm in a SINGLE playoff series, much less 4 series like Jordan did.

  • Very impressive GOAT right now, but kobe is a better 3 point shooter and ballhandler than him and he has 7 good years left on him, kobes only 28.

  • yo i wanna see if you can find the game where someone stole his jersey and he had to wear #16...or was it #12? Does anyone know if he had a big game wearing that jersey?

  • better than kobe
