  • Try the video again. It is up and running. As far as Bedini and Newman are concerned, they are ongoing projects that relate to my latest efforts. And no---there is no OU coming out of my experiments just, as one commentor put it," hyper efficiency". That is all I am after right now

    I have built this, but I am pulling 3 AMPS. what is the cap voltage and UF that you are using? My relay is getting very very hot does yours get hot that you can't hold it in your hand? Good to see you back bud.

  • Daftman is back!! Great! I can't wait to see his "oceanliner" Newman motor running. As far as the Imhotep is concerned, 1) get a 25ohm rheostat from Radio Shack and put it in the + line comming off the drive battery. It will get hot and not your relay. 2) Put a 1k 15 turn pot (Radio Shack) on the relay. 3) try the neo magnets all over the relay until you find the sweet spot. Had a great trip to Catalina. Took the oscillator along and tried it at sea and it worked fine.

  • Ok tried that 25 ohm.. when I did got smoke signals from the 25 ohm resistor but it did work it limited the voltage to very low... Looks like I need a high wattage Rehostate there. I guess there is a a differece between Rehostat and pot?

  • HOT RHEOSTAT!!!! That has been a real problem for me until last night. Rheostats are wire wound variable resistors. They act like 110 pulg in heaters like you use in your house if they draw too much load. Last night by using that 1k ceramic pot on the coil of the relay and adjusting the neo magnets--all of a sudden the rheostat heat went away and the relay got quiet. Peter will have to tell us what happened. Watch my next video. It shows the circuit diagram.

    Smoking resistors and hot rheostats!

    You may want to experiment with putting a reverse-biased diode across the relay coil. That's standard practice because when you switch off the power to the relay, the relay coil does you know what. The desire is to absorb the spike from the relay coil through the diode and make it disappear so that the spike does not disturb the rest of your circuit.

  • HOWEVER, the relay is used in this circuit to actually make the oscillator, so "standard practice" in this case may throw off your relay oscillator.

    I give you "Wild and Crazy Guy" Brownie Points Lidmotor for hacking your relay by putting a neo magnet on it to change it's response to the external excitation. It shows that you are really experimenting, and your mind is clicking.

  • Drevtoobe, Thanks for checking in on me from time to time. This is another fun project that I am participating in. No spinnig things this time or gas. Just light. By the way your advice on solar panels and how they work has really helped me use them correctly on my boat. Thanks. Hope you are having a good summer up north.

    .... Here is the fun suggestion: How about reverse-engineering that 12-volt fluorescent lamp from a few clips bask? That's fancy talk for rip it apart and try to figure out how it works. It could be fun and you might learn some stuff and steal some design ideas. Every manufacturer tears down their competitor's stuff!!!

  • First posting lost! Again: So thanks for the nice words and you are welcome on the solar panel stuff, not that I really did anything.

    I also mentioned that your 12-volt store-bought fluorescent lamp from a few clips back was consuming only about 200 milliamps (standard mulltimeter disclaimer) so it might be interesting for you and/or Mart to disassemble and try to figure out how it works. It appears to be more efficient than the Imhotep circuit.
