resputin discovers blax is alive in planet amazia with his new family the wattersons. soon resputin's curse will be complete and the orange samurai will feel death.
I love Once Upon A December and Journey to the Past but this might just be my favourite song from the movie. It fits Rasputin's mood and personality so well.
I also love how it's so dark and evil but still amazing, genius and catchy all at the same time.
Love it and love the film, one of my ulimate favourites. :) <3
And I'm going to suggest it to my Peforming Arts group to put in our show, it would be great and fit very well! :P
I love this movie (and this song), but I can't help but protest the fact that the entire Russian revolution is blamed on... dark magic? That seems unfair.
@AnthroTsuneon Oddly, he died by drowning after all that shit. It was 1st, poison. 2nd shot. 3rd was him falling in and drowning. After all that shit..
I'm with the Nostalgia Critic here. My main complaint is that if you hear the song before seeing the movie, the visuals can be really disappointing. The scene isn't really BAD or anything, it just doesn't seem nearly as epic and intense as what I imagined when I first heard the song.
And what's more, since the scene starts off with Rasputin's body breaking apart, my first thought was "Wow, for a kids movie this might actually get pretty dark." So...bit of a letdown.
'Tis better without the animation. With the animation, it's pink bugs. Without, it's shadowy demons and skeletons on guitars and flames and... oh yeah.
I think the best thing about listening to this song without the animation is that you can visualize it being sung by Doc Brown. Try listening to it while imagining that.
@Microraptorgui Actually, while Christopher Lloyd did the speaking voice for Rasputin, the singing voice was done by Jim Cummings. So you should actually be visualizing Ray from "Princess & The Frog", or even Tigger!
I Wonder What Would It Be Like If Prince Phobos (from w.i.t.c.h) sang this song, or Jareth (from the labyrth) sang this song, or even Giovanni (from pokemon) sang this song?.
@MsZeldafangirl Yeah, he didn't, the voice and singing for Scar from the Lion King is Jeremy Irons, the Voice for Rasputin was Christopher Lloyd, the singing voice for Rasputin was Jim Cummings,
@zubrowka89 Actually, he was....Jeremy did the first part of "Be Prepared"...but couldn't finish the song, so Jim came in and finished it out. If you listen to it really close, you can tell the difference in voice.
The song itself is.. perfect. But one thing, the lyric "Tie my sash, and a dash of cologne for that smell!"
One, he sounds so.. gay. And two, cologne is for men... aka not supposed to smell like a woman, so that made dressing up like Anastasia a little... uhm, pointless. xD
@Saisashi Um...the sash is because he was closely affiliated with the royal family at the time (very early 20th century) and they wore sashes as a sign of that royalty. Second...he's been dead, dead people smell - they're decaying. He needs cologne to fix that god-awful smell you get from decaying for a few days. Let some beef sit on your counter top for 3-4 days and you'll want to dress that up with something pleasant.
Being unbiased i think Disney made Raspuntin more friendly to children where as the real Rasputin's life and actions were not suitable to show children.
Pahaha. That's almost every Disney movie, although this isn't a Disney movie. xP
Take Cinderella and Pocahontas as a near perfect example of making the movie "kid-friendly" when the real book (or history) is much darker, though. ^^
I was thinking of a Family Guy version of this song which would fit well for a movie for the show. The person who could sing his own version taken from this great song can be the main villain and his followers.
for the first 59 seconds i thought i clicked on the wrong song. lol. hehe. but i love this movie, especially this song. even though i LOVE once upon a december and journey to the past better.
i LOVE this movie its totally under-appreciated, but i gotta say when i listen to it this way i imagen a much more epic scene then.. umm.. multicolored bugs?..
This song just makes you adore and respect Jim Cummings even more. I absolutely love it. As well, the opening music is just fantastic, so dramatic and intense. Fantastic, all of it.
...except for maybe the 'tie my sash' line. That one doesn't really make sense, but it's still pretty fun. :)
I love the ominous and dramatic opening music but once that jazzy piano plays I'm totally out of the song. David Newman is not bad but I wish they went with a much more brooding vocalist to sing this song. I also thought it would have been better if the little bugs were replaced with demonic spirits, and their voices were much more scary.
@AuroraFairbanks My mistake on David Newman composing this song. He only did the score. And Jim Cummings is the vocalist?!? No offense, but his scary villain voice is a tad too cartoony. But a great voice actor nonetheless.
@dendara100 what i meant was you said they need Jeremy Irons, Irons only voiced Scar for the dialogue, Jim Cummings did the voice singing for Scar and Rasputin, so Cummings is the real legend behind these menacing songs. As a villain, he would be scary on stand alone. Cummings also used Scar's voice to sing as Rasputin, to get the same similarity to Christopher Llyod's voice.
@AuroraFairbanks It is a bit cartoony....but I think that was the point...given that it's an animated children's movie :) I do agree, though..would love to see..say, Tim Burton redo this? make it darker?
@CrystalusAurora Well yeah, but so was Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hellfire is somthing I wouldn't call "for children". And a villain, who is practically a walking corpse, deserves something much darker. I heard the original concept was to have Rasputin sing with other corpses, but FOX thought it would be too scary.
@CrystalusAurora u know even tho i love Tim Burton, he won't do it justice. He's good with live action films, the real master of animation is Henry Selick, who did the animation for Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas, not to mention Monkey Bone. (a very underrated classic)
Selick or Even Brad Silberling should make a Anastasia remake in 2D or Stop Motion animation.
@Lamporre You'd like Nostalgia critic. He made a Top 11 villan songs and put this on there pretty low saying it was "an awesome song with horrible visuals".
Soundtrack version is even better than the movie version! No sound effects or prancing bugs to distract from the awesome.
