some great training there! does anyone here know franks height weight and body fat % ; I met him in vegas at a ufc back in 2004 and he looked about 5-10 and it was tough to tell his weight, I'd guess he was around 185-195 at the time, no body fat at all ; he was a nice guy ; I enjoyed watching him fight in panc. ufc, and strikeforce ; he was 1 one of the first who showed good wrestling, striking, subs, bc in the beg most were 1 dimensional;
I'm of the opinion that I don't get to pass judgment on the viability of the training methods of a multiple time UFC Champion. I also feel like you can see evidence of his balance work from the yoga ball in his fight with Tito in round 4. Tito lifts him to control him, and Frank just glides over Tito's head and spins on a dime to mount the standing attack while Tito tries to figure out what happened. It may not be a high percentage circumstance, but Frank looks like a genius in that moment.
@shinzu4001 A direct example of it, yes. The yoga ball training is excellent for fluidity and top control on the ground. I'm only beginning jiu-jitsu/judo, and i already see what that could do for me if I moved a little faster and did some work with the ball.
@sk8forlife90 Bad "TRAINING" methods ???? .....that some fucked up paradox ? Hes training, and ball training is great for finding your center of gravity in movements and that dipshit is THEE MOST important fckn thing in any fight
@BringthePain1000 LMAO! i bet you roll around on a ball all day thinking your becoming a great fighter lmao. i got very good at wrestling, and what did i do to become good? i wrestled! a lot. everyday. that's what makes you good, sparring and practicing, not rolling around on a fucking ball lmao, that dosn't do shit.
@sk8forlife90 ...also...one more time for the slow handicap wrestler.... a ball helps you better find your center of gravity...you think frank just balls all day and doesnt grapple....go pop zits douche bag
@BringthePain1000 the ball thing is stupid and a waste of time. i've tried it before, it's stupid, it dosn't help shit. people come up with the dumbest things today i swear. and the center of gravity thing as the most important part in any fight is about the funniest joke i've ever heard. thanks for making me laugh kid.
@sk8forlife90 ...i bet you WRESTLE every day thinking your bitch ass is a FIGHTER.... where you sport wrestlers fuck up nowadays, your facing actual fighters...and bitch the only way to train to fight is to get hit....i got your ground game, you just by your talk dont have shit for rockin a brain nor taking a brain rockin
@BringthePain1000 actually i wrestle with my brothers who are wrestlers on my freetime. i'm actually a boxer and i don't do mma but i like watching it. so if your a mma fighter and you would like to stand up with me then that wouldn't be your best option sorry mr tough ass.
You're an idiot. Clearly they are not saying you roll around on the ball all day long, jabronie. Of course you wrestle when you're training wrestling. But, you also lift weights, cardio etc. So adding a great balance and core muscle exercise with the ball is great. I personally do a bunch of shit with the ball, pushups, dumbbell exercises yadda yadda. It adds a nice twist when working free weights. If all you do is wrestle all day long and you want to be great in MIXEDMartialArts, you're a fool.
@BringthePain1000 I'm not involved In this conflict In any way, I just decided to inform you that If you were to punch someone...It wouldn't be the force of gravity, It would be brought about by a thrust action.
@9362150487 Randy Couture has about 8 losses, he was the first person to be inducted into the UFC hall of fame, it doesnt matter what ur record is, its how you've contributed to the sport
@drist23 ok thanks just trying to grow taller. There is this product " helpo growth formula" it is herbal thing, i ve been using it quite a while, seems like working.
frank was in some point of his career the best pound for pound, but he made a mistake retiring in the 90s for to long. when he came back he didnt evolve. and all the other fighters did. still i am a frank fan because he was a great fighter
@RhadeConstantine Not using your legs isolates the abs and trunk and upper body,it's very very veery demanding. It also magnifies the demands on one's oxygen use. It's a long known and highly respected method of cardio, low impact-maximum results training.
@SFO14 - actually the ball training serves a few different purposes, it gives you wicked balance which is what you need when you are on the ground trying to maintain top position on a guy scrambling and bucking trying to escape or reverse you. It is a nice functional workout for your abs. It helps your mental acuity when it comes to body awareness.
@MikeyBear2009 Teh ball training has long been certified by international specialists stength and conditioning coaches Olympic coaches and athletes as a magnificent destabilization and safe motion tool. It's absolutely positively highly effective. There is no faactual basis for doubt about this at all. However you're entitled to your opinion and more power to you.Enjoy.
I heard this dudes is a cock and he hits on every gy's girlfriend. What the fuck are you going to tell him he'll kick your ass. Ken Shamrock is better.
@neversubmitt I thought that but I looked again and he isn't kicking his legs. I assume he was letting his legs lay deep and just using his arms to improve upper body strength.
Nice training video... but Diaz whooped his ass. I'd like to see Diaz's training vid...smoking blunts and shadow boxing! Yayahh. Props to Michael Phelps & Ricky Williams while we're on the subject.
@tsopranos if diaz fought frank in his prime, shamrock would win everytime. Placing diaz in franks catergory is like saying george foreman was as great as Ali dude.
I don't mean to sound lame Im jw..to get your body to look like that do you have to take suppliments? I also like to drink, should I stop? Im highly concidering goin into mma!
@Soilworker091 To get your body down to that % of body fat, its all diet. Watch the sugar, when you eat your carbs, and how often you eat. Looking good should be a bi-product of your training and diet. Save yourself 50 bucks from a protein shake and eat some red meat. It tastes better, better for you and wont give you the shits after a workout haha However, if looking good is numero uno, bodybuilding is a wonderful sport.

1:47 is the perfect example of a modern day Kata/Form. What this represents is how Martial Arts has evolved over the past 40 ot so years. This needs to be considered when viewing more traditional styles.
Kettlebells themselves are a effective piece of equipment and have their influence and use streatching back thousands of years. While they were largely forgotten during the bodybuilding era, it shows how we revert to the equipment and techniques that have survived over countless genrations.
The point im getting to is that I feel that more of other traditions will begin to find themselves resurfacing into MMA oriented training.
Certain methods such as deep breathing exercises and meditation have yielded encouraging results when their effects have been put to test by the scientific community.
The next decade will be very interesting just to see how much this sport develops.
This however could also see Dana White become the next Bill Gates.
what does the ball thing do exactly??? im new to muay thai fighting so i don't know anything about what you do after taking them down to the ground xD
i think it gets you to work on opponents moving around on the floor and keeping in control/contact with them also stability balls are really giood for muscle tone
Frank is a fucking beast some really smart training excerices here, the ball roll and swimming without using legs! genius!

I agree. White may not like him but that does not change his important role in mma and UFC history:
First Middelweight (205 then) UFC champ.
Defeated Olympic Gold Medalist Kevin Jackson in under 20 seconds.
Won epic battle against Tito Ortiz
He did lost to Rutten, twice actually, but no shame in that, one was very close and he also defeated Rutten once.
Won many titles outside UFC.
His victory over Ortiz showed the importance of stamina in MMA.

Smart bugger!

what does the ball thing do exactly??? im new to muay thai fighting so i don't know anything about what you do after taking them down to the ground xD
kpxflameboy 2 years ago
the ball thing is about wrestling, its about your balance or somthing. Go watch goldberg toe to toe with frank shamrock u will see there.

The ball is meant to help you build total control of your body weight on the ground.
Watch some BJJ grappling on here then watch this Frank Shamrock video again , You'l understand more clearly.

i think it gets you to work on opponents moving around on the floor and keeping in control/contact with them also stability balls are really giood for muscle tone
