This is a no brainer John Petrucci wins hands down. Slash is a to bit poser playing watered down pentatonic blues licks. Petrucci takes the guitar into the 21st century with new guitar ideas not the same old blues runs that Saul Hudson plays over and over!!

This is a no brainer John Petrucci wins hands down. Slash is a to bit poser playing watered down pentatonic blues licks. Petrucci takes the guitar into the 21st century with new guitar ideas not the same old blues runs that Saul Hudson plays over and over!!

I love both guitarists but I believe Petrucci just stomps on slash :P Slashes bases all his solos on the A minor pentatonic scale while Petrucci just sheds the whole guitar :D
I also think you should have put in the solo for Panic Attack... You mainly put in Petrucci's softer kinda mellow solos and completely left out slash's ending solo for november rain which kicks ass by itself.

well, both have different styles, Slash plays Hard Rock thing, it's easier to play, and Petrucci plays Prog, as u know, it's a very technical music style, it needs lots of practice and experience to play.

btw... lets say they're different... but petrucci has way more musical nowledge than slash... and those ppl who say petrucci has no feeling... its because they just saw 2 solos of him... but there are a lot of amazing petrucci solos filled with emotions... and he manages to put great feeling in those solos with sweep, alternate picking and other techniques.

I think you must give Dream theater a try. They doesn't only include the "prog" style, they also got that really heavy, and very soft mellow thing and so on. And for people with more mainstream thoughts, they could listen to either Pull Me Under, Wither or Fosaken etc.

but im taking a little break.. i used to hear dt every day... now im listening to Neal Morse and Transatlantic... im focusing more on learning from them how they connect with their deep emotions and their music... btw.. Neal has a 2 and a half hour song called Testimony.. its a double cd =D

Technique: uncomparable, petrucci is ABSOLUTLY better than slash.
Feelengs: it depends on what you like, but in my opinion the slash's sound it's like a wonderful girl and petrucci's sound is like a football match. Both amazing but I prefer the first : )
