What kind of screening is on the top? I'm afraid that my birds will chew through it if it's not sturdy enough. Thanks for sharing this because I'm planning on making something like this for our birds.
@Cherokeekid304 Don't matter budgies can still chip away the clear coat and be poisoned. My mates Parrot was poisoned from chewing away the paint down to the metal from a normal steel cage. it almost died. Plus that green mat you have down the bottom once bird shit gets in that your gonna have some real nice fun cleaning it off. Anyways its your birds enjoy.
@eazyone23 Believe me. I wouldn't keep them in it if they where chipping the paint away. I have cooler things I could put in there that wouldn't ruin it. They have been in there for a year now and there have been no problems. The green turf is made for outside patios. So, there has been no problems there either. Super kickass enclosure so far and they love it. I can tell because when I take them out they fly back in.
Your skills really are amazing! One thing I can recommend is that you get some different kinds of perches other than the wooden dowels.. At like Petco they have Manzanita branches and Cholla branchs and those cotton "Comfy Perchs" that are a rainbow of colors and the budgies really love them.. The downside with having only wooden dowels is that the budgies can get something called Bumblefoot from basically having to keep their feet wrapped around the same kind of perch.. Hope that helped.. <3
@Cherokeekid304 I figured you had : ] just thought it couldn't hurt to mention lol.. you can get Manzanita perches off eBay for cheaper than paying 5-7 dollars for one perch at Petco.. & with your skills, you could add the screw and bolt on yourself. It's great of you to have them in such a huge house! Nice seeing them treated right, as you do with all your animals though! Cheers to you! x
@Cherokeekid304 You can even buy some manzanita perches off eBay instead of paying $7 a piece at Petco and then add the screw onto it.. since you're good at that stuff = P.. Their home really is super nice, it's good to see someone treat their animals the way you do : ] Cheers to you x
@SitNDum I didn't make it from any plans or anything, I just found a spot that I would like for it to go and built around those dimensions. It's basically a box with doors. Put your mind to it and you can come up with something awesome I am sure. Good luck on your build, -Dustin
I'm building a cage that is 2 1/2 feet deep, 8 feet tall, and 26 feet long. But then, I'm raising a bit more than just 2 budgies. Also built for myself 10 nests. When I'm done, will film it.
@madbab00n The minimum dimensions for a budgie cage is 20 inches long, 12 inches deep, and 18 inches high. This will only accommodate the birds only for sleeping and eating. Ideal dimensions for a cage is 40 inches long, 20 inches wide, and 32 inches high.
@madbab00n That's for 2 Budgies/Parakeets. 24x24x24 inches will work fine but if you have seen my other custom cages. You would know that all my animals live like kings.
The only thing missing is bumpy perches. If they stand all their lives on straight perches, they develop feet problems. But this is a great cage!

wont the stain or the paint kill them?
Budgieluv1 11 months ago
@Budgieluv1 If you apply stain and paint directly on them yes that would kill them. Now that it is dry they're fine.
