how do you give it that hushsed, sort of short sound when strumming on the verse? When ever i play it , it just rings like it does on the studio version... help??
io ho imparato a suonare la parte finale della canzone al 12esimo(corda di MI) e 14esimo(SI) tasto e sul decimo(MI e SI) tasto e non suona male...prova e se vuoi fammi sapere cosa è meglio
Hey man, you ROCK! I just wanna tnk ya 4 the genious lesson, i couldn't understand witch delay range I had to use, and I hav to say tht 4.10 it's simply perfect! F u have other lessons please let me know! See ya dude!
I need to buy a delay pedal - it sounds like fun. Thanks for making this sound easy! I'm sure the delay takes some getting used to. I appreciate the time you took to post this...
Gostei muito do vídeo, pois explica bem como se faz,a camera ter sido colocada perto da guitarra, facilitou bastante, pois a pessoa consegue ver o que esá sendo feito na guitarra.muito bom!
this is an awesome vid, federico - i watch it frequently. thanks for sharing your talent and knowledge with us. i'm slowly but surely getting the hang of playing this! :)
Just one question, as another mentioned, I am having trouble getting the correct picking pattern/sound for the standard A and D positions at second fret.
hey, nice lesson. one thing you should stress though is after strumming the 4th and 5th strings, people tend to just hit the 1st string and then pause before returning to the 4th and 5th strings. they kinda let the delay finish it up before starting it agian. It sounds much better if instead of taking that pause, just return immediately with the rythm to the strumming of the 4th and 5th strings. Your doing it in this vid perfectly but I dont think you say it. great lesson though.
Fede, thanks for this. a newbie question: Ive always liked version on the unforgettable fire album better (i can put it on repeat for hours), the riff sounds cleaner, less "chunk" (?). is that due to a different guitar, amp, effects... what? Ive wondered that ever since I heard the live version in Live Aid.
i guess it has to do with different delays (sdd3000 versus tc 2290) and/or different EQ and compression used.. edge likes to play a lot and no version sounds the same..
plus if you listen to the live aid version is really clean and sort of coming out of the mix...I believe he was using the tc2290 at Live Aid but it's controversial
@boomdude77 In the live versions, The Edge palm mutes the strings as he's playing, to give it that 'chunky' sound, which makes the delay more prevalent. In the album version, he doesn't mute the strings at all.
my favourite U2 song also. a day doesn't go by that I don't play it. i have known 'who' to play it for years, bu t am still struggling to get it right. good post mate
Great post. I have been wanting to play that for years. My favorite U2 song. I always think of a friend I lost years ago. I just learned how to play this on a guiter he gave to me before he died. Thanks for showing me how.
I really admire the way you play. I'm a beginner, but the few things I know how to play about U2 are from you. So thank you. Do you know where could I find settings for beinner's effect pedals?
Thanks a lot for this lesson, you definitely sound more like Edge than any other player I have seen attempt his songs. Are you using any special kind of pick like Edge does? I have a hard time getting that "chime" sound out of my guitar.
Great job. I always appreciate your videos. Lot of people just want to play but you really show how to play it. One tip, sometimes it's good to play the song without the delay so people can really hear what you play. A+++
Thanks so much - great lesson! - I played this 15 years ago and forgot it now, my new band what me to do it again, lesson was a great reminder for me and perfect!!
ottima lezione...ma è impressione mia o il suono è troppo pieno di alte ?

I think it will help guitar novice if you'd demonstrate the strumming w/o delay first? never the less great lesson demo though!!

Thanks for the great video!
However I got a question: are you playing the a-string and the d-string 12th fret at the same time? And do you mute the a-string?

Great explaination.
At the 5:30 where the A and D chords are mention, you skim over pretty quickly. Can you please explain the picking pattern, and finger positions?
Thank you and keep up the good work!

@boomdude77 in the album version probably a Telecaster or a Les Paul has been used, as it sounds smoother

yes.. if you want that chime sound you must use herdim blue picks held backwards...
this way it really "clicks"...
