Unknown if you need this field or not. You seem to have spent some time (hopefully) thinking this out. BUT this seems very short sighted on your part & when you look at just the water savings alone, the turf IS worth it. The experts keep finding new sources of oil & other minerals, but NOT water. It's all about the water folks. WATER ! ! Wait until the water wars start. Then your won't have money to install turf OR be able to take a bath or get a drink. Invest in Purell now ! !
Horrible information. Totally wrong numbers. Synthetic grass installed per acre would be more like $160,000 to $240,000. Where is did this bozo get these figures? Obviously a lame attempt at one sided biased analysis.
Those artificial turf costs seem highly inflated but it's hard to argue either way since absolutely no explanation was given as to how those figures for natural vs artificial costs were reached. For certain, the speaker cheated by equating the 8 year turf guarantee period to the common 25 year artificial turf longevity.
The school district should compare those figures to that of other districts using artificial turf. One hopes the opposing side was given a chance to speak.
1. How can you compare the high of one to the low of the other?
2. I think there are additional savings to the idea that you are forgetting about. In those 8 years how much will your town pay for lawn care equipment? How much will it pay for the workers of that equipment?
I played football for 17 years all the way to Division 2. I love grass playing fields... but I HATE dirt playing fields. Which most fields turn into by the end of the season anyway.
your a dickhead !!!!!!!!!!!! i lay synthetic grass look at it over a ten year period and the money you will save in maintenance on natural grass get a real job tosser. by the way your costing is wrong too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your math is way off! You need to begin with the same amount of sq ft. Also remember that you savings in maintenance cost, water, and labor. Your total cost for turf is way to high! This is what cost for a professional football field cost which I don't think you need. You might want to check those numbers.... I worked on a large field about this size and the turf and installation was not even near what you have. The company we used was Heavenly Greens in San Jose.
Our City Council gave us similar numbers. Even claiming a turf field would last 20 years, they couldn't make it cheaper than natural grass. An analysis by a law firm available on the web shows that even with reduced maintenance costs, synthetic turf is only cheaper than grass after 50 yrs (assumes replacing top every 15 yrs and drains lasting 50 yrs). This didn't take into account the cost of turf disposal estimated by the STMA as > $200,000 for each new top not counting any toxic dumping fees.
These numbers are not "my" numbers, but were provided by City Stafff to our City Council. Given that Ciry Staff recommended Artificial Turf and claimed a cost saving based on these numbers, I don't see how these numbers could possibly be skewed towards natural grass.
