The original Tropical Serenade pre-show is back and the original show, with slight trimming here and there, is home at last. The performers of the Tiki Room shows can now rest in peace knowing their legacy will no longer be pissed upon.
So let me get this straight...Iago and Zazu show up, Iago is a loudmouth and sings horribly which makes everyone mad, Madame Cleo comes out of a volcano, and the whole building sings a 50's Doo-Wop song, then some horrible 80's music plays followed by some a huge show-stopping version of "Hi-Ho"?

LOVED this version as an alternative to the DL one. We've worn out the Tiki Room at Disneyland. It was nice to see something new in Florida. *sad face*
I like the original better. They don't need to change a thing...though if they want to pretty up the animatronics a bit, I won't stop them. But keep the show the way it was.
I like this version better than the original. Sure it's the original but it's soo... uugh. The animatronics are sooo old over in Disneyland. Plus, I used to watch this show when I was very little and it was my favorite. I was like five! I'm 11 now. I'll miss this show. Hey,maybe it could be like the old show but keep Iago and Zazu there! ...And make Iago talk less. : /
This may be a little bit annoying compared to the original version, but at least it's a 'sequel'. Of course, nothing compares to the original, and it's gonna be coming back in August. I feel sorry for the Iago puppet which was a total loss. It's sounds like Lumiere from Beauty And The Beast stars in the attraction as Jerry Orbach voices one of the characters as well.
"They ain't going to like that, trust me" Iago, I used to play the song all the time on my CD and when I was 9 or 10, I was excited to finally learn where it came from only for you to interrupt it.
At least Wally Boag can rest in peace knowing that a show he worked so hard on can now be enjoyed again in both parts of the U.S., and that horrible rape of the original show that was Under New Management is gone. We will all miss Wally, but I doubt anybody will miss UNM.
I find it ironic that i hear that the first Iago , who interupts the show, was burnt beyond repair, but i wonder what happend to the Iago that's SUPPOST to look burned/injured
@neelycgilbertson Talk about life imitating art. In the show Iago gets burnt by some pissed off tiki gods, so perhaps some real tiki gods did in fact set the animatronic Iago ablaze. Either way, Under New Management is gone for good, and I say good riddance. Disney can chalk it up to their list of imagination misfires.
Disney officially announced recently that the Tiki Birds will be returning with a show "reminiscient of the original show" later this summer. Rumors are placing the reopening sometime in mid/late August.

@ExplorerDS6789 Many seem to think that the new Tiki Bird show will be similar to the current Disneyland version. Most of the original show will be intact with the "Offenbach piece" removed. It will make for a much tighter show.

Lol yes. I went when the new management was started for the first time so I grew up with this. Man people it's just a ride! Gosh! I mean why not give it a twist? So whatever change is good!
I have to tell you guys that when Disney gives shows a facelift, it's usually for a reason such as either not many people visit the attraction anymore or it's to promote a movie. I think this was pretty much to promote Aladdin and Lion King. and you just can't go yelling at Disney for messing up ONE show. Have you guy ever seen Carousel of Progress, maybe you'llhear that Walt himself loved progress and this is what it is. Deal with it!
maybe the new management should have followed Zazu's advice "you can not toy with the enchanted tiki room." from what i've heard it caught on fire. maybe that should be a sign.

It's looking like the original is coming back. There have been SO many resports that the original is coming back, and that's why the refurb is taking so long.
This poor excuse for the Tiki Birds has been closed since the fire (Iago was reportedly destroyed). Rumors are flying about a return of the original show or at very least, a BETTER show. Keep your fingers crossed!

Yeah you could literally say that Iago stole the show here I thought this was supposed to be about the Tiki room birds not him or Zazu for that matter. And that Tiki god is utterly terrifying in my opinion. I wonder why they changed this ride to have it star Iago and Zazu. Such random characters. Yeah their birds but that doesn't mean anything. But, in spite of what I've stated we still go on this attraction when we visit.
They took a lovely, tranquil and beautiful little show and destroyed it. It is the same thing they did to the Mexican ride in EPCOT...put a bunch of annoying birds in it!
Original is WAY better. It is always the 1st ride I visit when I come into Disneyland. It will be the 1st one I take my son's to this spring for their 1st time at Disneyland too. Aside from the goddess in the middle this version was horrid. HI, Ho, HI, HO & other un-Tiki songs??? Then a wisecracking bird that is insulting everyone?? Even at the end making comments to hurry up. Disneyland/World is suppose to give you a day of imagination, adventure, happiness....be magical.
At first I was like, "its not so bad", and then friggin zazu comes in and literally trashes one of disneys classic attractions. If this continues, disney will lose its touch. This really cheapens the whole experience
This just had a fire and is currently closed. Rumors are circulating that Iago and Zazu have been damaged beyond repair and this will force Disney to bring back the original show. I would like to stress this is only a rumor. There is no confirmation the original may be returning yet, but we can hope.
@Benstudio13 I love how (according to the rumour) Iago and Zazu caught fire- the two birds that were added to the tiki room. It's like the actual attraction is saying "yeah, don't mess with history fools!". Or maybe the other birds set them on fire >:D

What would really be good is to remove Iago/Zazu and do a whole new show but retain the polynesia feel of the original. I doubt that will happen but I can dream. ;)
@ru42 hey, just to let you know, it was supposed to reopen in march, then june, then july, now august.. there are high hopes as well as the part where the person who voiced Iago made bad comments on the tokyo earthquake. it's 50% chance the original will come back, 20% chance stitch will take over it, and 20% chance it will return as UNM.. the new iago AA that cought on fire, the new one that was supposed to be shipped wass cancelled..hmmm.... :)
@funspot202 - thanks for the info. I guess all we can do is wait and see. And yes, the Gilbert Godfrey comments might require a voice change for Iago. That could be why it is delayed so much, they need a new recording. Or maybe the delay is to re-work the entire show.
@ru42 I'm not so sure it would take 5 months just to re-work the audio.. it's also been said that the Zazu AA will have a new orange coat and will be one of the hosts or something... But there has also been a removal of the UNM preshow birds. I think if they bring the original back, they should have the preshow area like it is in Disneyland, and have those watchamacolic food things, i've need had those (=
@ExplorerDS6789 I already know that the original's coming back. But it'll probably end up like Captain EO it'll be a great big crowd the first few weeks but then slowly lose crowds, that's why it was replaced with a new version. Either way, I already know Disney's bringing the original back.

Maybe you could give it to Werner Weiss who runs the Yesterland web site. He just did an article about this attraction, so any news involving it would be a big help.

Alot of disneyatics (like I) are notcing Orange Bird just happening to pop up in the gift shops...Its being said they will restore it to its original...which I like alot more better since it give you that "feel" or adventure land...I dont thing one bird from African and another from india inside a tiki room dont go good together...its like buzzlight year and stich in star tours! Sure its a bit related but not that closley related!
@funspot202 A new Iago? I'm confused; I thought the show in Orlando, Florida was only changed once in 1998 to include Zazu and Iago. And Stitch most definitely was NOT in the Enchanted Tiki Room in 2009!

@christmasmatt21 Mission to Mars? I loved that ride, bot ETAE and MtM were 10 times better than SGE. I'm sure everyone knows the original is still in DL, what does that have to do with the one in Florida? If disney still believes in the original then why did they trash the one in florida? Stitch's Great Escape has a barely 10 minute wait during the most crowded times and this junk gets the same amonut of guests as it does when the park is abandoned.
@funspot202 Stitch's Great Escape was only brought around because younger children were scared by the alien in ETAE. Disney replaced it with Stitch so it would be more kid-friendly. The original enchanted Tiki Room when it was open back in the 80's, was basically a napping area. People would actually leave early because they were so bored. This was brought in to fix that. After this got old, Disney broguht back the originall. Now that it's back, people are compalining about boredom again. Nobody will ever be happy with it, just think of it that way. And everybody on WDWmagic aren't the only people who visit WDW. There are first-timers who go all the time.

@ztslovebird There was a fire in the inferior Florida version. From what I understand, the fire was small, but the animatronic Iago was damaged beyond repair. If you ask me, this was a sign from above. The tiki gods and Walt Disney himself are very displeased with this crap and they want the original show back.

Eh, it's okay for a transitional thing. I didn't grow up with the original Tiki Room, so the original doesn't hold any nostalgic value. This show's okay, but it builds on the premise that you've seen the original show, and it you didn't, you miss out on most of the joke.
But they kept the original show at Disneyland, so it's not all lost.
Everybody has their own opinion.... in my opinion i find it amusing because if there is any other famous celebrity who would take over a show to make it their own besides miss Piggy..... it's Iago. lol :)
@cartoonkid96 It was Thurl Ravenscroft. He was the lead voice of the song Grim Grinning Ghosts, voices Buff from Country Bear Jamboree, voices the Hawaiian god outside the Tiki Room, and narrator of the Disneyland Railroad. Anything else you'd like to know?
I like the DL version, WDW version, and to an extent, the previous TDL version. The current Tokyo version has Stitch all over the place, and its just not for me. The old one was like a lounge act song-wise, though shorter than the USA versions.

Geez, this new version is awful! Was this filmed at Disney World or Disneyland? I just returned from Disneyland a few days ago and this was not the version they showed..they had the original version, which is much better than this. I would have been throughly disappointed if I saw this! I hope Disney always keep the Tiki Room going, but not this version! Thanks for your help and for posting this. Your videos are excellent!

To help some of your confusion; the above video is the current Tiki Room show at WDW Florida. The show you saw at Disneyland Anaheim is the 'original' and has never tried to change to the New Management version they have at WDW.

@ExplorerDS6789 Many seem to think that the new Tiki Bird show will be similar to the current Disneyland version. Most of the original show will be intact with the "Offenbach piece" removed. It will make for a much tighter show.

A big lock was hanging on the entrance of the Tiki Room yesterday.
The original show was way better than this one, but I feel sorry for the animatronics which are burned, and their creators.

I have to tell you guys that when Disney gives shows a facelift, it's usually for a reason such as either not many people visit the attraction anymore or it's to promote a movie. I think this was pretty much to promote Aladdin and Lion King. and you just can't go yelling at Disney for messing up ONE show. Have you guy ever seen Carousel of Progress, maybe you'llhear that Walt himself loved progress and this is what it is. Deal with it!

HORRIBLE SHAMEFUL PIECE OF CRAP!!!! I have a pass to the disneyland resort and the original is infinitley better. The Jokes are stupid(not in a good way), the 2 cartoon birds are outdated and in no way pleasurable/interesting, The music sucks..interupts the original song with a bad rendition of Friend Like Me, influenced by crummy 90's fads like rap, mighty ducks, and the big shot agent birds, Random and most uncatchy boring songs..doowoop tikis?wtf?, BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL! There was recently a fire in this building and it is under refurbishment.
Just between us, I bet the fire was set by an upset guest that was critical, or a cast member that REALLY hated to work the attraction...
In either case, I dont blame them.

This poor excuse for the Tiki Birds has been closed since the fire (Iago was reportedly destroyed). Rumors are flying about a return of the original show or at very least, a BETTER show. Keep your fingers crossed!

Yeah you could literally say that Iago stole the show here I thought this was supposed to be about the Tiki room birds not him or Zazu for that matter. And that Tiki god is utterly terrifying in my opinion. I wonder why they changed this ride to have it star Iago and Zazu. Such random characters. Yeah their birds but that doesn't mean anything. But, in spite of what I've stated we still go on this attraction when we visit.

Original is WAY better. It is always the 1st ride I visit when I come into Disneyland. It will be the 1st one I take my son's to this spring for their 1st time at Disneyland too. Aside from the goddess in the middle this version was horrid. HI, Ho, HI, HO & other un-Tiki songs??? Then a wisecracking bird that is insulting everyone?? Even at the end making comments to hurry up. Disneyland/World is suppose to give you a day of imagination, adventure, happiness....be magical.

This just had a fire and is currently closed. Rumors are circulating that Iago and Zazu have been damaged beyond repair and this will force Disney to bring back the original show. I would like to stress this is only a rumor. There is no confirmation the original may be returning yet, but we can hope.

What would really be good is to remove Iago/Zazu and do a whole new show but retain the polynesia feel of the original. I doubt that will happen but I can dream. ;)

@ru42 hey, just to let you know, it was supposed to reopen in march, then june, then july, now august.. there are high hopes as well as the part where the person who voiced Iago made bad comments on the tokyo earthquake. it's 50% chance the original will come back, 20% chance stitch will take over it, and 20% chance it will return as UNM.. the new iago AA that cought on fire, the new one that was supposed to be shipped wass cancelled..hmmm.... :)

@funspot202 - thanks for the info. I guess all we can do is wait and see. And yes, the Gilbert Godfrey comments might require a voice change for Iago. That could be why it is delayed so much, they need a new recording. Or maybe the delay is to re-work the entire show.

But there has also been a removal of the UNM preshow birds. Alot of disneyatics (like I) are notcing Orange Bird just happening to pop up in the gift shops...Its being said they will restore it to its original...which I like alot more better since it give you that "feel" or adventure land...I dont thing one bird from African and another from india inside a tiki room dont go good together...its like buzzlight year and stich in star tours! Sure its a bit related but not that closley related!

@funspot202 A new Iago? I'm confused; I thought the show in Orlando, Florida was only changed once in 1998 to include Zazu and Iago. And Stitch most definitely was NOT in the Enchanted Tiki Room in 2009!

@christmasmatt21 Mission to Mars? I loved that ride, bot ETAE and MtM were 10 times better than SGE. I'm sure everyone knows the original is still in DL, what does that have to do with the one in Florida? If disney still believes in the original then why did they trash the one in florida? Stitch's Great Escape has a barely 10 minute wait during the most crowded times and this junk gets the same amonut of guests as it does when the park is abandoned.

@funspot202 Stitch's Great Escape was only brought around because younger children were scared by the alien in ETAE. Disney replaced it with Stitch so it would be more kid-friendly. SGE STILL frightens children and it was really replaced because it costed too much to keep maintained. i don't think what's at WDW is junk, but there are some major bad attractions there including this, SGE, journey into imagination with figment, sounds dangerous, journey into narnia: prince caspian, and all the other fails. 95% of people on WDWmagic complain about those attractions all the time and nobody likes them. The original enchanted Tiki Room when it was open back in the 80's, was basically a napping area. People would actually leave early because they were so bored. This was brought in to fix that. After this got old, Disney broguht back the originall. Now that it's back, people are compalining about boredom again. Nobody will ever be happy with it, just think of it that way. And everybody on WDWmagic aren't the only people who visit WDW. There are first-timers who go all the time.

@ztslovebird There was a fire in the inferior Florida version. From what I understand, the fire was small, but the animatronic Iago was damaged beyond repair. If you ask me, this was a sign from above. The tiki gods and Walt Disney himself are very displeased with this crap and they want the original show back.

Eh, it's okay for a transitional thing. I didn't grow up with the original Tiki Room, so the original doesn't hold any nostalgic value. This show's okay, but it builds on the premise that you've seen the original show, and it you didn't, you miss out on most of the joke.
But they kept the original show at Disneyland, so it's not all lost.

I like the DL version, WDW version, and to an extent, the previous TDL version. The current Tokyo version has Stitch all over the place, and its just not for me. The old one was like a lounge act song-wise, though shorter than the USA versions.

Geez, this new version is awful! Was this filmed at Disney World or Disneyland? I just returned from Disneyland a few days ago and this was not the version they showed..they had the original version, which is much better than this. I would have been throughly disappointed if I saw this! I hope Disney always keep the Tiki Room going, but not this version! Thanks for your help and for posting this. Your videos are excellent!

To help some of your confusion; the above video is the current Tiki Room show at WDW Florida. The show you saw at Disneyland Anaheim is the 'original' and has never tried to change to the New Management version they have at WDW.
