Disagree, whilst the mix doesn't make the band, it makes the performance worth listening to. I spent 2 years doing live mixing around melbourne and so many times I had people tell me after I mixed a friends band that they didn't realise how good they actually were until they had a decent live mix.

So whilst you're right that the mix doesn't make a bad good, a bad mix can make a good band sound a lot worse than they are.

Yeah but I've found it's mostly younger bands that aren't great live, I mean you look at My Chemical Romance live 5 years ago and now, it's like they were abducted and replaced with better musicians.

Also it's the bands that are good live who enjoy the most success, because they can convert people to fans just by playing a show.
