This just eats at your soul!! What a bloody marvellous guitar player! We've had brilliant sliders like Cooder and Gallagher but Mick surely has to be alongside them, and even Lowell George. This my fave Robert Johnson(which Jagger credited on album, as "trad. arranged; another rip off of a blues artist) number and my fave rendition. p.s google stephen dale petite, an interesting guy.
You can just tell that Taylor just loves playing, that maybe a reason he quit the stones. i think he got sick of mick being a control freak. people say it was down to keith for whatever reason but he played on keiths solo record and if he didn't like him he wouldn't have done that. also mick wouldn't let bobby keys back in for years.
Taylor is better sounding to my ears than Winter or Gallagher or Allman, on slide. Taylor is not a southern guy trying to b badass, he is badass. I love Johnny too, but he is the best at open tuned acoustic slide.
Don't get carried away....I love it. But loads of people in this league...John Butler for one...but then we're comparing apples to oranges....don't work. And...let's not forget the late great Lowell George. It would be great to see him again on a tour with the Stones, and Ry..... and Bobby and Nicky etc etc etc...just for old times sake.
mick was the one, who slides the sound of the greatest rock n roll band for five and a half incredible phantastic years. they realy should do the tour with him next year, I hope so.
It's an interesting phenomenon - everybody's a music critic. The worst part of YouTube is most of the commenters think it's a competition. It's not. These guys just get up and do their thing.
Rock stars usually do not get fat with years. He was thin and very handsome in 70's...MT does not care about his body,it seems..Or drug or booze caused that???
MT is definitely in the same groups as Allman, Trucks and Winter when it comes to slide. He's also in the elite class of white blues players. When players achieve that level I'm not going to slag any of them just to boost my man, but I personally think Taylor was and is the best that's ever lived. I agree it's subject that can be argued and other opinions are just as valid, but I'll die believing that.
@mecormany It makes me smile reading your post. I feel the same, Allman and Trucks are my two other favorite slide players alongside with Taylor. It's hard to compare guitar players, but if I had to pick one I'd pick Taylor. For me him and Trucks are very close, they can't be compared. Trucks is on his peak right now as well I think, Taylor is getting a little sloppy, but the feeling is still there. The most beautiful tone of all time for sure, so rich and full.
Maybe not Taylor's best shot at this but A): It beats Ron Wood' s best butchering of this song anyday and B) I'd tell anyone to take a look at LIV from Ladies & Gentlemen. The 2 solo's will bring tears to your eyes, it is so good.
@SxTMinMan I generally--like, NEVER--respond to posts, but you are so right about MT's solos on LIV from the movie. The second solo may be the single greatest solo I've ever heard--just behind the solo on I'm Free from Liv'r Than You'll Ever Be. You watch him play in the movie and it's like you're watching Da Vinci paint...you see it, you hear it, but you still can't believe anything could be that beautiful. I love Paul Kossoff, but I have to put Taylor just a little ahead of him.
@interestingfailure I'm not sure of wealth but you obviously ARE a man of taste. I'm in complete agreement with you regarding his second solo sans slide. It's mind boggling, just perfect, and if you have any of the bootlegs from that tour, he never plays it exactly the same from night to night. A teak here, a change there but all of them are just incredible. Musically, Taylor was the best thing that ever happened to the Stones. Conversely, Ron Wood.......the Stones worst catastrophe.
Still plays with incredible soul. Maybe not the same perfection as 72/73, but the touch and feel never left, the stamp of genius printed indelibly on those magical fingers. MT you're still the man, many thanks!
@sven7080 Yeah Mick puts it out there with soul. His technique is pretty top notch too. If you want to hear the best that ever lived though check out Lowell George. His tone and style and soul were about as good as it gets. Little Feat is a good place to start. RIP Lowell.
Oh, god, I hope Mick isn't always this bad nowadays. Never heard Clapton or Allman or the Taylor Stones this bad. (I'll check other vids. Say it ain't so, Mick! Always luvya!)
fucking amazing

Mick Taylor is the best white blues guitarist that ever lived. With him it's about soul, not technique.
