I remember seeing this Saturday mornings on NBC around 1975, when I was in kindergarten. The computer effects on the show title clearly has to be Scanimate, which was the only computer animation system in the world in the early 1970's and state of the art. DePatie-Freleng and Hanna-Barbera were both experimenting with Scanimate as a means of speeding up production, but that wouldn't happen until digital animation came around in the 80's.
Think of all the animals you ever heard about, like rhinoceros and ocelot and lynx. Think of all the animals in all the world but have you ever seen a panther that is pink...think...a panther that is positively pink. Well here he is the pink panther...the rinkydink panther...and it's as plain as your nose. That he's the one and only truly original panther pink panther from head to toe!
This was the first Pink Panther theme I ever heard. I never knew it wasn't the "real" theme until I was older. I only knew the "real" theme as background music.
This does take me back to my preschool days. Now if someone would just post the end credits to this series.
PINK PANTHER HURRAH PINK PANTHER!! ive had this damn tune in my head all day i even shouted that particular line when i went out, yes i got strange looks! lol
Anyone know who did the effects in this open? Some of it (particularly 0:04-0:06) looks vaguely similar to some of the work from 1970s Scanimation-production firm Dolphin Productions.
@ChristianKidsShowFan My immediate thought was that effect looked like something from the Willy Wonka film which did use Scanimation, but not sure if this is definitely them.
I grew up with this show, besides those classic Pink Panther cartoons and this intro, I always loved the little inbetween bits they had on this show with some narrator who I'm sure has been lost to history.
Does anyone remember the shark Mr. Jaws and his little companion Catfish? Mr. Jaws had a bit of a German accent if I remember correctly. Also, what about the Texas Toads? I can remember these as being part of the Pink Panther show but have never heard or seen them since the 70's.
Texas Toads are on YouTube (and Hulu) under original name Tijuana Toads. You can find Misterjaw (Artie Johnson--of Laugh In--verrrrrrry interesting) too
Love it!! Does anyone have the short where Panther puts a coin in a vending machine and gets strawberry pop in his face? "Now wasn't that refreshing?"
I remember this show being on Agro's Cartoon Connection when I was a kid. Come to think of it, a lot of cartoons were on that show. Anyway, I barely remember it, but the Aardvark painting blue everywhere takes me back. XD
True -- I always liked the Ant and the Aardvark -- kind of DPF's answer to Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. I truly do wish producers would learn -- 'new' is not always 'better'.
I remember this intro. I watched the Ant and the Aardvark cartoons as an adult, and I have to ask, is it me, or does the Aardvark sound remarkably like Jackie Mason?
Was this the show that was 'hosted' by puppets? I remember one was a flamingo, and whenever he was about to go postal they would play 'Popcorn' by Hot Butter, and he'd say: "Excuse me, but I need to get a little scream of air..." He'd go off camera and scream and then come back on.
If I remember correctly (and I am pretty sure that I do *LOL*) Comic John Byner was the voice of the Blue Aardvark (an impression of Joey Bishop) and the ant he was always trying to catch (and impression of Dean Martin)
Thanks so much for bringing back some great Saturday morning memories
this was the best of the pink panther themes... by far... how bout a pink panther cartoon with this theme in it as well as well as when the pink panther comes out at the end and it says the end
I've seen the sub-main title on at least one cartoon and the closing on another. Can't recall which episode has it, but the intro was spotted recently on the short "An Ounce of Pink." The music can also be heard on a couple of dubbed tracks that spliced it in over the episode title. What's more interesting is the fact that they also retained the laugh tracks from the respective network series. Kinda cool seeing those cartoons in that format.
Doug Goodwin sang most of the DePatie-Freleng cartoon themes I believe except for Bailey's Comets which was sung by a group called Everything Under The Sun.

@IThinkYouLookLarvely It's certainly using that type of analog computer system there. The 1970's had a lot of that going on.

yes the intent was to have his sound like Mason, and the Ant--also voiced by John Byner--to sound a bit like Dean Martin.
