They're both the two most important metal bands today, IMO. Lamb of God has the sales on their side, Mastodon has the critics on theirs. One's has a lot of old-school influence and is often regressive, the other is progressive (for now). Lamb of God uses simplicity for heaviness, Mastodon uses texture and over-the-top concepts. Both awesome.

They're both the two most important metal bands today, IMO. Lamb of God has the sales on their side, Mastodon has the critics on theirs. One's has a lot of old-school influence and is often regressive, the other is progressive (for now). Lamb of God uses simplicity for heaviness, Mastodon uses texture and over-the-top concepts. Both awesome.

I litsen to mostly underground extreme metal and I hate most metalcore, but there are lots of good modern bands that are popular. Mastodon is an AMAZING band, i cannot express how much i love them. Lamb of god is also an amazing band, and they are not metalcore at all. More like thrash/groove. Do you hear whiny choruses or crappy make-up... thats what i thought.
