  • Katrina was born in Topeka, Kansas. Her father was a Colonel in the United States Air Force, and Katrina and her five siblings (four sisters and one brother) moved frequently as children. After she was born, they moved from Kansas to New Mexico, and then California, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Germany and the Netherlands before arriving in Norfolk, England, in 1976. Katrina has lived in the UK since 1976, moving to London in 1998 where she currently lives.

  • amazing song!!

  • The Waves hit #37 in Billboard, 9-7-85. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!

  • 2:30 KA-thunk! Though it revealed her miming..

  • Just love it!!

  • I had never forgotten this track..who could? Katrina knew how to bring it! And yes I remember when MTV played music and not that slop that they have nowadays.

  • Thanks for this clip. I had forgotten about this song. Love it!

  • Katrina is so beautiful and cute

  • Bostons own and one of the great sonsg from the 80's

  • @RedSoxsfan4life09

    She's not from Boston, dumbass.

  • I get goosebumps just listening to the vocals. Sometimes I forget just how unbelievable the music of the 80s really was.

  • I love this song...LOVE this band....what happened to music????

  • Great video of K-and-the-Waves playing, they were a killer band in their heyday. Thanks for posting.

[Trivia: Kimberley Rew (guitar) and Alex Cooper (drums) are Univ of Cambridge graduates.]

  • esta con caracha

  • not quite live :P

  • HIt #37 in the US (billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • Still rocks! One of MTV's well played songs...back when they still played actual music and not reality shows!

  • 2:30 .... headshot

  • I love the 80s :)

  • they did a version of this song on BBC Radio One's 'In Concert' programme in about 85-86, and they started the show with it... Kim played a solo that would melt most people's fingers!

not many bands from the 80s hold much interest for me, butt his is one of the ones that does.

  • Katrina clearly didn't think Vince (the one in stripes) was a dork. When they formed their original band they were going out.

  • Excellent Song!! feel the energy!!

  • LOVE this song!!

  • The dork on guitar is Kimberly Rew, who was in the Soft Boys with Robyn Hitchcock and has written about a zillion great pop tunes, in addition to "Walking on Sunshine."

  • You can't expect every song to be "walking on sunshine." This song is real cool. Nice beat, and you can bop your head to it. Two thumbs up.

  • i like walking on sunshine better, but this song is cool.

  • Me encantaaaaa viva Katrinaaaa!!

  • hmm @ 2:29 she gets clocked in the head by a green plastic ball, never noticed that..lol. A great groupm had the chance to see them live in 85', Just a gorgeous woman then and now!

  • The follow up to Walking on Sunshine but unfortunately not a major hit it deserved to be. I agree with the comments about the band live, they were absolutely brilliant at College Hall Leicester 1988 and the Mean Fiddler 1995. On both occasions success was well behind them but they gave the audience a superb show. If there was any justice, the band would have been much bigger and not just remembered falsely as one hit wonders. They were much more than that label suggests. Good on Kimberley Rew.

  • Nevertheless, I loved this song....

  • Only band ever that didn't dig the hole deeper, and made me feel happy and strong. Bring back fun in rock n' roll!

Smiles, you should get one, they're nice ; )

    Bu...if y'want cryin'---move on. Mattervalley for president.

  • I have to mention the drummer, so all you superdrummers that can't fins the groove and want to be on the cover of drummerworld, fuck off! Don't scream at your dog, just mean what you say...

And yes, it's a playack, it's from the album, recorded live I might ad ; / All three

  • Seen them 6 times, last at Mean Fiddler in London, I forget when, a long time ago. They've changed a lot in me. People should not mistake this band for a pop band, they kick ass harder than most anyone. She screams redfiresoul! I'm blessed to have experienced them way back when. Positive Hardcore Positively!

Half the rockbands now can't do it. Raised on machines you wouldn't know how., u know...Call Steven Tyler or something, get help!

Megapost from someone who knows, thanks ; )

  • I was lucky enough to see Katrina and the waves live in '86

They were a very tight band and put on an excellent show.

    Gosh I miss them

  • I always thought Katrina was hot...this band had a kick-ass live show if you ever saw them perform live...really worth catching..

  • I think she is still hot now

  • I remember this show very well, some idiot throws a ball in her face during the song.

  • Great song .....one of the reasons the early 80's were the best time to grow up

Anyone have the MTV version?...when MTV actually only played videos!

  • I remember this one. It's from soe German Top of the pop show, isn't it?

  • Pity so many people refer to vids as 'live' when in fact they're not..I wouldn't be checkin' out so many vids if only people would know what they were talkin' about..

  • This was really a great rock´n´roll band.

They never got lost of "walkin´on sunshine",

although they could reall play real rock´n´roll! What a pity.

  • That's not strictly true, they did win the 1995 Eurovision song contest with the fantastic "Love Shine a Light", which was a top 5 hit in the UK.

  • she was hot then! great song and video

  • Good stuff, thanks for posting. Always great to see footage no one else has here.
