Katrina was born in Topeka, Kansas. Her father was a Colonel in the United States Air Force, and Katrina and her five siblings (four sisters and one brother) moved frequently as children. After she was born, they moved from Kansas to New Mexico, and then California, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Germany and the Netherlands before arriving in Norfolk, England, in 1976. Katrina has lived in the UK since 1976, moving to London in 1998 where she currently lives.
I had never forgotten this track..who could? Katrina knew how to bring it! And yes I remember when MTV played music and not that slop that they have nowadays.
they did a version of this song on BBC Radio One's 'In Concert' programme in about 85-86, and they started the show with it... Kim played a solo that would melt most people's fingers!
not many bands from the 80s hold much interest for me, butt his is one of the ones that does.
The dork on guitar is Kimberly Rew, who was in the Soft Boys with Robyn Hitchcock and has written about a zillion great pop tunes, in addition to "Walking on Sunshine."
hmm @ 2:29 she gets clocked in the head by a green plastic ball, never noticed that..lol. A great groupm had the chance to see them live in 85', Just a gorgeous woman then and now!
The follow up to Walking on Sunshine but unfortunately not a major hit it deserved to be. I agree with the comments about the band live, they were absolutely brilliant at College Hall Leicester 1988 and the Mean Fiddler 1995. On both occasions success was well behind them but they gave the audience a superb show. If there was any justice, the band would have been much bigger and not just remembered falsely as one hit wonders. They were much more than that label suggests. Good on Kimberley Rew.
I have to mention the drummer, so all you superdrummers that can't fins the groove and want to be on the cover of drummerworld, fuck off! Don't scream at your dog, just mean what you say...
And yes, it's a playack, it's from the album, recorded live I might ad ; / All three
Seen them 6 times, last at Mean Fiddler in London, I forget when, a long time ago. They've changed a lot in me. People should not mistake this band for a pop band, they kick ass harder than most anyone. She screams redfiresoul! I'm blessed to have experienced them way back when. Positive Hardcore Positively!
Half the rockbands now can't do it. Raised on machines you wouldn't know how., u know...Call Steven Tyler or something, get help!
Pity so many people refer to vids as 'live' when in fact they're not..I wouldn't be checkin' out so many vids if only people would know what they were talkin' about..

I get goosebumps just listening to the vocals. Sometimes I forget just how unbelievable the music of the 80s really was.

Great video of K-and-the-Waves playing, they were a killer band in their heyday. Thanks for posting.
[Trivia: Kimberley Rew (guitar) and Alex Cooper (drums) are Univ of Cambridge graduates.]

Katrina clearly didn't think Vince (the one in stripes) was a dork. When they formed their original band they were going out.

You can't expect every song to be "walking on sunshine." This song is real cool. Nice beat, and you can bop your head to it. Two thumbs up.

This was really a great rock´n´roll band.
They never got lost of "walkin´on sunshine",
although they could reall play real rock´n´roll! What a pity.
stevieandevie 3 years ago
That's not strictly true, they did win the 1995 Eurovision song contest with the fantastic "Love Shine a Light", which was a top 5 hit in the UK.
