@garygadgetguy67 The doors had trouble because people might have stopped the doors from closing so that they can go in so then it repetitively does that until all doors are closed.
Has anyone noticed tat the Mk II trains have been a bit glitchy lately? missing announcements, making station announcements twice and such. I was on one a couple days ago that sat in the station with the doors closed and played the chime 6 times before leaving.
There have always been glitches in general. Sometimes the edmonds announcement gets played twice and the sapperton announcement doesn't get played at all.
I love the old SkyTrain! My dad and uncle did a lot of the testing of the trains in 1984 and 85!! They were top of their line back then, and had blue carpet :)

This is without a doubt, the most fucked up transit system in Canada. The idiots in B.C. who think it is so great, obviously have no intelligence. The cars cannot handle the large amount of people during rush hour, and the fucking thing is forever breaking down. No wonder Ontario tried it then decided to get rid of it by selling it to B.C. But then, nobody ever said B.C. people were smart. They are just plain fuck ups!
Thanks. Add more cars, which is happening... extend the platforms, increase frequency etc... then the capacity could compete with just about anything.
Meh, it does the job. During rush-hour at broadway (by far the busiest station during rush-hour.) station usually the only people that miss a train are usually the ones arriving at the last minute. I've rarely ever see people left on the platform.
The trains themselves moderate-capacity, but the fact that they can attain 1 minute headways during rush hour helps compensate for that. (Something that can only be accomplished with a fully automated system.)
@subwaymark its not the doors problem... i was on one of the mark i trainsets today and the doors was caused by a bad driver who hits the door button too many times because there is no door camera only cameras on the front and back so the driver can c where he/she is going
That's the standard behaviour SkyTrain exhibits when it detects that a door hasn't closed completely. It sounds the chime again, reopens and closes, until all the doors close.
The other incident with the open door was a failure, but this is just the way it's supposed to work.

love our transit system especially westcoast express!

You don't think a maximum design capacity of 25,000 pphpd is very much? That's comparable to a lot of heavy rail systems.

The system has done well for us for the last 20-30 years. Sure, we may have our problems but what transportation system doesn't?

That is because the original Vancouver cars were built by the same company that built the Toronto cars, as well as the Detroit People Mover.
