  • quite possibly the most awesome a subway can possibly sound

  • have you ever been in the toronto subway? very similar to this one and its scary

  • that thing sounds like a Formula 1 race

  • we toronto guys dont have problems with doors

  • HAHAH that wat i sounds like when super mario gotes in a pipe

  • This happens every morning & afternoon, cuz some people hold the door or get stuck then eventually all the other doors re open. lol

  • I miss you Vancouver :( so bad to leave this city

  • @7moony Vancouver is awesome why would anyone wanna leave Vancouver

  • I love the sound it makes. I miss it.

  • Sounds like someone blowing through a wooden pipe.

  • i live in vancouver and the skytrain is heaven. get anywhere in Vancouver in 20 mins. from grouse mountain to king george!

  • its shifting gears lol

  • I live in Vancouver and the trouble with the door is because ppl are trying to get in and the doors reopen.

  • That train is loud :O

  • I think the doors had trouble because it might been an older MK1 skytrain

  • @garygadgetguy67 The doors had trouble because people might have stopped the doors from closing so that they can go in so then it repetitively does that until all doors are closed.

  • sounds a little like the Jubilee Line Trains on the London Underground

  • Motor sound reminds me of BART trains.

  • both use olive oil for their wheels :)

  • Yep, that's because they use the same type of trains.

  • Has anyone noticed tat the Mk II trains have been a bit glitchy lately? missing announcements, making station announcements twice and such. I was on one a couple days ago that sat in the station with the doors closed and played the chime 6 times before leaving.

  • yup! i have noticed... i was going to Metrotown and passing through Patterson STN and the train announced "The Next Station is Patterson" twice

  • There have always been glitches in general. Sometimes the edmonds announcement gets played twice and the sapperton announcement doesn't get played at all.

  • love our transit system especially westcoast express!

  • You don't think a maximum design capacity of 25,000 pphpd is very much? That's comparable to a lot of heavy rail systems.

  • I love the old SkyTrain! My dad and uncle did a lot of the testing of the trains in 1984 and 85!! They were top of their line back then, and had blue carpet :)

  • Thanks. Add more cars, which is happening... extend the platforms, increase frequency etc... then the capacity could compete with just about anything.

  • The system has done well for us for the last 20-30 years. Sure, we may have our problems but what transportation system doesn't?

  • Meh, it does the job. During rush-hour at broadway (by far the busiest station during rush-hour.) station usually the only people that miss a train are usually the ones arriving at the last minute. I've rarely ever see people left on the platform.

The trains themselves moderate-capacity, but the fact that they can attain 1 minute headways during rush hour helps compensate for that. (Something that can only be accomplished with a fully automated system.)

  • R U BEING RACIST TO US CANADIANS?! We think out transit systems works 4 us so if u thinks its bad, GO GET A LIFE!

  • Werg//W

  • As usual, some idiot keeping the doors open.

  • man, this sounds exactly the same thing as the Scarborough RT at East Toronto.

  • That is because the original Vancouver cars were built by the same company that built the Toronto cars, as well as the Detroit People Mover.

  • @subwaymark its not the doors problem... i was on one of the mark i trainsets today and the doors was caused by a bad driver who hits the door button too many times because there is no door camera only cameras on the front and back so the driver can c where he/she is going

  • i love the sound of it still ahh....i wish i stay in vancuver a lil longer i live in Quesnel

  • it sounds like a spaceship...i wish we had one

  • i love you mom

    i love you dad

    i love you lemuel

    i love you too carlo

  • That's the standard behaviour SkyTrain exhibits when it detects that a door hasn't closed completely. It sounds the chime again, reopens and closes, until all the doors close.

The other incident with the open door was a failure, but this is just the way it's supposed to work.

  • dude its just an old skytrain, besides vancouver is gong to hav 48 new skytrains

  • seriously man chill we have newer ones!

  • stupid comment!

  • Probably some idiot standing in the doors...

  • don't think so after the incedent the other day with the doors open the whole hourney 10 meters up hahahaha

  • no... I take the skytrain all the time, its some idiot, either standing in the door, or something trying to open the door so they can get on or out

  • thats usually it LOL..
