A few corrections needed to this list. The original FEAR is way more scary than the extremely disappointing sequel, which focused more on action. Silent Hill 2 should be there instead of Homecoming & Project Zero 2 aka Fatal Frame 2 instead of the 3rd one.

Guys i dont know why but i dont find amnesia that really scary lol i played the whole game and must say it is pretty scary but not really really scary. But the weird thing is all the NON-AMNESIA-HORROR-GAMES are a lot scarrier ! I freak out when i do the scary maze and cant sleep for a whole week. But with amnesia i dont have that ! Wtf is wroung with me ? Sorry for my horrible english :P

@deathswriter Amnesia is a fantastic game.Imagine a game where you don't have weapons and the only thing you can do is run,hide or use your wits to escape.It's one of the best survival horror games ever made.It actually makes you want to hide because you really fear the monsters in the game.If you play it you'll know what I mean!

Yes, Amnesia is probably the best all round. I would also recommend the Penumbra series, Silent Hill 1-4 and Nightmare House 2 (mod for Half-Life 2).

My cousin told me about a horror game that was released around early 2000. It supposedly had it's own kit with instructions and a flash light with a red bulb. The instructions told you to only play in a dark room with the flash light on. The flash light should be pointed either on the TV screen or beside it and that at any given moment the flash light turns off while your playing the game you should turn off your console and stop playing for the day. amnesia was scary because you couldnt do anything but run. the sense of helplessness and being alone in the dark with monsters and paranormal beings watching your every move.OH and the creepy creeks and footsteps coming from down the hall. the moaning! the doors pounding! the cowering. it truly is a dark descent. play with the lights off, and headphones for the ultimate test of your bravery.

@444lazaros If Amnesia didn't scare you "enough" there probably isn't one for you then. The whole trilogy of Penumbra is good but you should have freaked it out before Amnesia since it's an older and not as scary game AFTER Amnesia.
