I played marian in my schools production. This part was prolly the most difficult. The song after this scene "goodnight my someone" was the most fun i think :D
i'm 12 years old, and planning to audition for my town's production of 'The Music Man,' for either Amaryllis or Zaneeta. Do you think i would be too old for Amaryllis, or too young for Zaneeta? which one would be best suiting?? im pretty tall for my age, and have been dancing for 8 years and singing for 8 also.
I think that Zaneeta would be the better choice for someone with a lot of dance experience. It will be up to your director to decide whether you're too young or too old, base on how you come across when you audition, not your actual age.
I would expect they'd have you read for both parts, rather than your having to choose one.
I just finished a production of this and I was Zaneeta. The dance is good, but I think you'd be better for Amaryllis if you're only 12. We had a 12 year old a s our Amaryllis but she was small for her age. But since you have a lot of dance experience you caould probably read for Zaneeta as well. I think we had a 12 year old read even though the original age requirement was 15.
I wasn't Mrs. Paroo (I was Harold), but my thoughts are:
Practice talking in the accent, so you can say about anything without breaking. A consistent accent adds so much.
Know your character: start with the lines and understand why she's saying them, and build around that.
Play the scene in your head and then just imitate what your character is doing there. If you like what's in your head, the audience will like what comes out.
Experiment with different deliveries sometimes, just to see.
She sings duet with Marian near the end of "Goodnight, My Someone", which you can find several versions of here on YouTube (although I didn't put ours up — maybe I will).
i love this scene :D
i auditioned for Mrs.Paroo and my cast list comes out tomorrow! this video made me want her even more xD

hmm. I guess for me it's alot harder to act older than younger, but yeah, it's all up to the director:) hahaha
well, anyways, thanks for the advice! :]

Work on the accent. It will be a big part of the character, and you want it to be consistent and natural-sounding.
Play her mostly as matter-of-fact, but find places where she drops her usual inhibitions and becomes giddy (or whatever).

how did Mrs.Paroo learn her accent?

Um, I'm going to audition for Amaryllis and i need this piano piece for my audition. do you know where i can find it?
Waiting4sum1 4 years ago
Sorry, I don't. Our Amaryllis didn't actually play; the piano was a prop, and the real piano was in the orchestra.

question do you think you could find the 2 songs sincere and lida rose form this play? thanks!
natedog2004 4 years ago
Since didn't come out well, so I didn't post it. Lida Rose is posted. If you search for the four words
lida rose country playhouse
you will find it.

The fun thing about Amaryllis is that she's completely tactless, but has no idea how rude she is.
Knock 'em dead!
