I need some help. I recently ordered a practice balisong, and very quickly, the screws came loose. On the balisong, the heads of the screws are concealed and not visible, so I can't tighten them with a screwdriver. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
"i want you to keep size and appearance out of mind here" thats what she said. jk. i agree i have spent so much money on cheap ass balisongs I could have like 3 42's now..
you're right man, i was flipping the Balisong when the handle Loose and came off. then i realize the design was poorly made. the handle is hold together by a single Screw. and while i was playing with my Balisong it Unscrew it self. 0_o... lucky it did't hit my face. but it did hit my hand and bleeding.
should give more Info on Cheap and Quality knives so they can't tricked.
I have a bear and son cutlery butterfly knife, black handles and tanto blade, Haven't had any issues yet except when flipping the thing that locks it shut/open will get in the way.
how much would a good quality balisong cost? i have a "butterfly knife" which is pretty good to me, but i don't know if it's high quality. it's got plastic pearl insets in the handles if that helps
Koolaid: like he said jaguars are cheap and in the 40 range for a good balisong and also bear and son are very good 2 but u need at least 50$ but make sure that if u do get 1 of the 2 that there name and for jaguars symbol are printed on the blade :))
You should have done it with the Benchmade 42, and Jaguar. Cause buying one like that cheep one is un-realistic. Like why should we buy a 42 instead of jaguar? Cause it doent bend at all
I got the smallfly. Im a bit worried of using it, cause I feel like im going to loosen it up. Should I get a trainer or something for everyday flipping, and only use my smallfly (my only balisong right now) when I need it or something? Or can I flip my smallfly like every day and not worry about it. How long do you think it will last? sry Im kinda new to this whole thing
@RGCFlick It is between the Benchmade model 51 and the 62, the 62 comes out in April and it flips like the 51 but looks like the 42. Think of it as if the 42 and the 51 had a baby, the baby would be the 62.
why didnt you jus send it to me instead of breakin it hahahaha jokes i live in australia :( which for some unknown reason balisong's are illeagal.....
@Tommins12 it happens quite easily, i had a cheapo bali that broke on me while flipping after a single day of use. it seemed solid, but many cheapo's are either poorly constructed, or made of extruded aluminum, which can not handle the stress at the pins/screws.
@Tommins12 Most commonly the pin that holds the handles to the blade come out and are annoying to repair and tighten (There are other reasons but thats the most common for cheap-O's)
if you want an awesome cheapish one that is super sturdy and single sided
the bear and son silver vein butterfly tanto blade is amazing boought one my self and nothjing to say but good, i got the armor piercing one, recommended.
I really was looking for a trainer balisong knife, but i don't know where to buy one, either in vietnam or korea. Also, I don't really care about price, because they are only about 20 dollars.
Either that, or you can just get a cheap trainer so they CAN'T hurt themselves. I started off with a trainer and the "blade" touched my hand going fast over 50 times easily and it was a pretty good knife that never broke. Then I moved into that same exact balisong on the right that you broke and it came apart within the first few MONTHS.
No doubt that the benchmade is a superior product in all aspects.
HOWEVER -
There is no way, under normal flipping conditions, that you would EVER exert the amount of pressure on that handle that you had to use to break it. I have some good Balisongs and I have some bad ones, none of which have ever snapped under normal flipping conditions. Things come loose? Yes. Snapping? No.
I certainly agree about getting a quality instrument for your hobby, but in my opinion, if someone is going to get hurt, it's more likely they are whipping a blade around faster than they can handle, and/or being careless & negligent of safe knife practices and their surroundings. Although there are a multitude of solid reasons to invest in a good knife, which you did mention, I feel the knife spontaneously disassembling mid-swing is not a significant concern. Maybe I'm wrong, but just my $0.02.
I own two balisongs. One was my grandfather's which he brought home from WW2. The other is a jaguar. The first has very light handles, brass, bone, not sturdy, but light/thin, and a blade that has not been sharpened in my life time..and can be shaved with. The jag, mentioned in vid, has a good blade, surgical steel, and the handles are solid as a brick.
In a fight. I would trust either. But the jag's grips are so heavy/fat that i would not flip with it. Unless you like crushed, bruised fingers.
I have an issue with mine. Its a cheapo piece of crap but it works ok, but a rivet in the handle falls out all the time. What should I do to fix it in place?
i'm 16 years old. went to a gun/knife show today to get my 1st butterfly knife. i love it, but it's almost like a copycat design of the benchmade model 42. it was $10 and my only complaints are that the latch is very loose and the handles have a lot of wiggle room. but for my first balisong, i think it's very nice and certainly a hell of a lot better than the one you broke with your bare hands. do you think i need a benchmade 42 yet?
@KEVINSAWESOME1 Hey bitch why don't you go fuck yourself you little cunt maybe when you hit puberty you can come talk shit to me. By the way it's just more stupid not stupider. dumbass.

THANK YOU this video got my parents to get me a quality butterfly knife (of course a trainer though) and this other video made my parents think about getting me a knife
yeah, balisong is the name of a town in batangas philippines where these things originally invented.. but now, there are lots of cutlery manufacturers all over the world that produce their own versions.. but yeah, if you want to have the originals, go to batangas phil, but nowadays they just produce balisong knives for souvenir purposes
A Benchmade knife could also be considered an investment, quality metal like Benchmade uses is only going to get harder and harder to obtain in the future and much more expensive. Quality knives and guns are always easy to trade and sell..
@cutlerylover hmmm. i honestly didn't know that. i assumed since the filipino's made the butterfly knife so much a part of their lifestyle that they were the original inventors. Honest mistake :P But quality balisongs are also found in the philippines, am i right?
@BaconIn3D The Filipinos didn't invented it apparently because they didn't had "patent" paper work/s nor a surviving prototype before trading began with other countries. It's also a possibility that the idea was "borrowed" then was put on paper first by those who claim since they had more connection to the new world than the the Philippines back then. It's like asking who invented the spear, it's inconclusive.
@cutlerylover Actually, the french invented it but Spanish sailors were the ones to bring it to the Philipines. They used balisong because they could make the handles out of non-sparking materials and they were safe for use on boats around cannons.
@waltabeast i dont live in US but i live in Canada. I just put mine inside the luggage. DONT PUT IT ON CARRY ON OR THEY WILL THINK YOU ARE A HIJACKER. maybe dunno. but just dont bring it with you on the plane. but dont quote me on this :)
yes! do as he says. get the benchmade 42 and don't waste your money on a cheap one. my first bali-song i got was about $15. and on the second day that i had it, i had to go to the hospital because the blade broke off and hit me right in the head. (yes its kinda funny if you think about it!) and i had to get 14 stitches. now i have this big a** scar on my forehead. so save up your money and get a very nice benchmade bali. don't be dumb like me and get a cheap one. it will pay off in the long run!
There are a few budget butterfly knives that are actually quality pieces on a trip to holland when younger I picked up one for 10 Euros which is cheap however even at that price it had solid brass handles solid pins and brushings glided like a dream when flipping dont ask blade steel though we are talking 15 years ago :)
i just got this balisong knife for about 15$... the model is crossnar 10506, and it looks very much like the benchmade 42. the handles are one piece, too, made of aluminium, and they look very strong and sturdy. in addition, the blade is made of steel-not stainless steel, but for the price it cost me i dont care ^^. anyways, yeah, i would recommend this, its like a cheap version of the benchmade 42, and for its price, its amazing quality :D
Hey, I just got a Bradley Kimura II model balisong as a Christmas present. It was worth a pretty penny, but it worries me that the handles aren't one piece. What's your take on this model?
In my opinion You are only 50% correct. If you have enough money, it is better way to buy a balisong knife for 100$, but i don't think cheap version is bad. I bought my butterfly knife for 30 zloty (about 10$) and i replaysed some crappy parts by better "homemade edition". Now it works realy cool. (If i lose it i will not be crying because it was only 10$) And be honest, You just wanted to destroy it. :)
well that scares the shit out of me becuase i have one thats just like that my friend gave me. I think im going to get a 42 when i have the money. So where would you suggest going to get one?
@1InfinityShade the benchmade model 42's are considerably hard to find. And really expensive. You should just go for a benchmade model 51, or a bradley kimura. Good knives that arent hard to find, and cheaper
Uhm no. He's just saying that if you start to do the arts of flipping, just make sure to buy quality ones. He didn't say to buy this one, just a recommendation.
i had that model42 stainless steel and 'titanium handels' but where the knife is placed it began too burst i had it 2years and well exercised 1-4h a week, lost it >< it wasnt broken yet but it began too show signs, Other than that it was a very good knife compared too the others i had (real craps, lighter...)
ok so let me get this straight... is balisong a brand?? or is balisong another word for butterfly knife??? if someone could reply to this that would be great
stainless steal snaps, so recommending it for a knife is retarded, folded steel, is what is used in shurikens which just dont break, i recommend that to anyone buying a knife, or any sharp object for that matter
If a parent is going to get their kids a bali, honestly they should get them a trainer model and see if they stick with practicing flipping. If they stick with it and practice and get reallt involved in it then they should invest in a quality knife for them.
you know whats better than these? pocket knifes i got one from my dad its fricken who knows how old and you dont need to worry about breaking the axle cause there ISNT ONE so butterfly knifes or balisongs as you call them suck as self defence and not only that in many places its illegal unless you have one arm and some its ENTIRLY illegal
I need some help. I recently ordered a practice balisong, and very quickly, the screws came loose. On the balisong, the heads of the screws are concealed and not visible, so I can't tighten them with a screwdriver. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?

@ethansharkV3 We all know that, but would you rather have a knife flying around when it breaks then when you're flipping a quality knife?

Are the Dragon balisongs good quality?
I'm going to buy my first balisong soon and I had my eye on the Cheetah Dragon SV.

Would you suggest getting a practice butterfly knife comb? Instead of the blade it's a comb. So I don't cut the crap out of my hands. XD
it's 10 bucks.

what about the Mtech twist
Z39hyrr 2 months ago
Dear Cutlerylover,
In my opinion You are only 50% correct. :)
Take care,

1InfinityShade 3 months ago
also the other knife has a small blade on the back so if they make one wrong move they will get cut!!
Lutherbamf413 3 months ago
U broke it, if you didnt try to bend it with {Force} it wouldnt of broke.
Lutherbamf413 3 months ago
well that scares the shit out of me becuase i have one thats just like that my friend gave me. I think im going to get a 42 when i have the money. So where would you suggest going to get one?
1InfinityShade 3 months ago
@1InfinityShade the benchmade model 42's are considerably hard to find. And really expensive. You should just go for a benchmade model 51, or a bradley kimura. Good knives that arent hard to find, and cheaper
igloo77881 3 months ago
The way to test balisong is to hit a coin. When you buy a balisong in Balisong town in the Philippines, they will test it in front of you.
jjjjjjijjjjjjj 3 months ago
@jjjjjjijjjjjjj Oh wow. But how do you mean? Do they stab the coin?
HollyTheFireNinja 3 months ago
@HollyTheFireNinja Yes, They stab the coin in front of you.

yomommaisnice 3 months ago
@yomommaisnice

So, I bought a seventeen dollar blunt practice balisong.
Do you think it'll break very easily? Should I return it for a Bear Trainer?

Can I get one of those Ti balisongs in the UK?
Tonicwine999 3 months ago
stainless steal snaps, so recommending it for a knife is retarded, folded steel, is what is used in shurikens which just dont break, i recommend that to anyone buying a knife, or any sharp object for that matter
ObservedFIREFLY 3 months ago
now do that to you bench made 42 bend it

hi im thinking about getting a bali but i was thinking of getting a bali bottle opener have you had one and do you have one to recamend
cuterlyboy 3 months ago
That balisong is a spy!
TheCIScommander 3 months ago
If a parent is going to get their kids a bali, honestly they should get them a trainer model and see if they stick with practicing flipping. If they stick with it and practice and get reallt involved in it then they should invest in a quality knife for them.
