  • THIS SONG IS HERS,ONLY

  • thats so sad i am sorry to hear your story

  • When I hear this I think of my tiny premature 6-day old daughter who we held in our arms while she took her last breath. We love you and miss you so much Lauren. Most days, I just want to die.

    Daddy

  • Smethwick has produced 3 fine artists - Frank Skinner, Julie walters and Christine (nee Perfect).

  • best voice in this band, tooooooooooooo bad she is not touring this year with the band, does any one know why chrstine is not touring with fleetwood mac,i heard it is because she is too tired, after all she is 66 looks 46 voice of an angel her and eva cassidy, thanks for the memories christine, this is my favourite song from fleetwood mac, brings tears to my eyes every tim i play it, played it at my mom,s funeral may you live for ever

  • get rid of the american, and you will get the true fleetwood mac !!!!

  • No one can sing this song like Eva Cassidy...If you have never heard her sing this song...look her up on Youtube...under Eva Cassidy song bird.

  • no, sorry, Christine IS this song. It's hers and only hers.

  • Both Verisons are sung amazingly in there own right...

  • I saw them during their reunion tour and the absolute last encore song that was sung...was Songbird. Christine came out...alone...on the piano with a candlebra. Sang the song...and the stage went black after she left. It was beautifu. I would love to see them again during this new tour...but Christine is not joining the rest of the group. :(

  • I like that.

    s917

  • good stuff

  • A great song by a wonderful lady

  • One of the greatest ever!!

  • A song directly from Jesus. What a beautiful song.

  • This song has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I was given the Rumors LP for Christmas when it came out. I too have been caring for my husband who was diagnosed with brain cancer back in January 2008. Sadly, he passed away on December 26, 2008, only six hours after our entire family had Christmas dinner together. I asked him to please stay with us until after Christmas was done, and he did that for me. I cry every time I hear this song, because I love him like never before.

  • My brother gave me this song on tape while our dad was home dying of cancer ( I cared for him) and I would hear it every day. The moment it really got to me was when I sat at an intersection waiting for the green,on my way to get more morphine and I was tired and depressed. I had my 18 month old son that I was raising alone and I sat there and cried on the steering wheel, literally not caring if people were honking at me. So sad and yet I love this song.

  • She may be the most under rated songwriter of the last 30 years. This song is absolutely beautiful. No one could sing this today...could never be this vulnerable or passionate.

  • "The most beautiful song I have ever heard."

    Me too.

  • MY sister and I chose this song for the funeral of our brother a couple of years back.

Not because he was particularly a fan of Fleetwood Mac, mind you, but probably more because of the "message."

Live life while you CAN. And don't wait.

  • What a beautiful voice. Lets take a vote here. Who has a better voice? Christie Mcvey or Sarah McGlauclin singing "Angel". I say its a tie.

  • deadly song..almost as good as "if you could read my mind love""

  • Yeah almost that good.

You are referring to Gordon Lightfoot, of course.

I will certainly agree, too: Gordon was pretty much "the best."

He has only a handful of rivals im my mind, anyway, and most of them are anything but mainstream.

  • Shivers down the spine, love to sing this too, never as good as Christine, x

  • The most beautiful song I have ever heard.

  • it's a curious diversion - in the context of the folk/blues/westcoast rock of the middle mac period.

but it still works pretty well. christine added a sentimental sense of pop rhythm to a rock band.

  • She is lovely...and Timeless..

    happy new year my angel..

  • this one brings memories and tears...m

  • Its amazing that after all these years she is more beautiful than ever. And she is still writing so not totally retired, just retired from Mac.

  • I'm hopoing tonight that this thread doesn't disappear as easily as have so many others here at YouTube.

  • Chris' best song ever. I have been listening to this song for over 30 years and it still gives me goosebumps. Now that Chris has retired, the Mac will never be the same. A good many of their best tunes were hers.

  • I so love what this female did for music.

  • A thanks to all who contributed.

IMO, it's pretty much ALL about "community."

So no matter what those of who live on the outside (and often those who live in the past) have to offer, it's often too, not quite enough.

  • beautiful

  • omg. listened to this song since rumours came out and i never thought of funerals til i read this post..

my mum has been dead since 2003 and yet reading about others loss has me struggling through the tears to see what i am typing.

it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written imo. very haunting, very evocotive of youthful loves lost for me. i played the album til it was literally worn out and had to go buy another copy from Woolworths(won't be able to do that again).

  • I suppose raindrops as tears seeing through our trees raining?.."that" songwriter heaven!

  • this song reminds me of my mum who passed away feb07 she was the light of our lifes. love you forever ma

  • My mom passed away the month after your mom in 07. It hits your heart doesn't it! God bless

  • wow. my mum passed away on the 20th Dec 08 ( a week and two days ago), and my family chose this song for the recollection part of her funeral. its so lovely.

    xo.

  • Soothing smooth !

  • MAKES ME CRY

  • My dad recently passed away. I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, esp. the Rumors Album. He would always dedicate this one to me, b/c I was his little girl, the light of his life. There is nothing like the love a father has for his little girl.... I love you daddy!

  • my dad passed away to.we played this at his funeral

  • i'm playing it at my mum's funeral today.

whenever i hear it, i think of her.

    xo.

  • Thoughts and prayers with you. God bless x

  • hmm the song for my funeral, not that I'm looking to go anywhere just yet but I have told my gf. x lovely song

  • a beutiful song, and my heart goes out to all those that have posted on lost loved ones.

  • An absolutely beautiful song, much like the writer herself. Sure Stevie was hot but, I always thought Christine was the real beauty of this group!

  • love playing this on guitar.

    cool song.

  • Thanks I miss my parents ...this bought tears to my eyes..its been a while, since i felt a song, thanks

  • i send 2 u much love & peace 4 u

  • To my loving brother Michael Lafleche (died of cancer 10-2-08) I will never forget you! Things will never be the same without you. May you rest in peace. Your sister Monique

  • What a powerful voice

  • It is just a wonderful song! I adore it!

  • beautiful

    ~david

  • And I love her, I love her,I love her like never before !

  • Delicate and heart wrenching, beautiful.

  • this is way better than the kenny g song!!!!

  • I would like to dedicate this song to my precious son. RIP sweet Jordan. 11-5-83/11-5/08. and I love you, I love you, I love you....Like never before.

  • You have my sympathies, for what it's worth.

  • its worth more than gold - thank you

  • I know your terrible pain, brother. Whenever I hear this heartwrenching song, I think of my wife, Louise, who died of cancer two years ago. I miss her so much as you miss your son, Jorden. I will pray that you find peace. Georgie

  • Thank you so much Georgie. I will pray for your heart-wrenching pain as well and hope that someday you will find peace and comfort in knowing Louise is in heavenly sunshine and free of pain. It's been 1 month today since we lost Jordan and the pain just seems to get worse. Thank you again for your prayers - Sam

  • We played this at our wedding 20 years ago.

I'm sure we're not the only ones!

    Beautiful!

  • such a great track words are wonderful :)

  • great song check out freedom and whiskey here on u tube cheers

  • I <3 ur face!

  • Always loved this song.....beautiful!

  • A most beautiful and poignant song, goes straight to the heart.Thanks.

  • MY sister and I chose this song for the funeral of my (younger) brother a couple years back (2006), and we were grateful for the opportunity.

He had three siblings, We two who survived him, and one who did not (his twin brother died twenty years before he did).

We particularly loved the: "I love you, I love you, I love you (like never before)"...because we felt those lines could have been offered on behalf of all THREE of us (even the one who is no longer here).

    Thanks, Christine!

  • love the macs but eva is the best at this!

  • the only real talent in fleetwood mac.....cheers

  • What, HER?!

  • What's with the negative responses over Eva Cassidy's version? It isn't offensive to say you prefer Eva's version. I dare say Christine was writing/singing about John, so it's personal to her in a way it can never be to anyone else, but Eva Cassidy transformed many lovely songs in ways that never seemed possible, even acknowledged classics like Over The Rainbow and Imagine.

Just accept that people have different opinions, please, eh?

  • I cant believe people PMS over that kind of shit. ENJOY THE MUSIC AND STFU

  • My favorite song from Fleetwood Mac with her singing. What a great band!

  • Nice to see her smiling for a change : )

  • Christine McVie is one of those women who got better looking as she got older. She is so beautiful and so talented.

  • Christine McVie is such a gifted artist. This song is "For no one and everyone" she said. I personally feel that Stevie was like on a different level of musical appreciation then Chris. (God bless her I love the lady) but it seems Christine didn't get the recognition she deserved. But what do I know! Eric.

  • Stevie is a better singer thou?

  • I love this song. It gets me every time. It is so perfect in every way. Thank you.

  • thankyou

  • Most beautiful blue eyes rock & roll ever saw! Lovely!

  • wish they would all get back together again

  • Its perfect because she is Christine Perfect.

I like the song and her too.

  • perfeCt lool

  • pefect said moonflower!!!! smile

  • stevies was the yin

    christine the yang. lol

    not seriously nice song. :)

  • Christine- the original voice of an angel... Beautiful word's- beautiful music- First time I heard it-late 70's or early 80's she's alway's been a comfort, for those day's that just don't pan out! God Bless you Christine and Thank you!!!! kml-boston

  • i thort her name was stevie nix or sumthing like dat??

  • Stevie Nicks was the other female member of Fleetwood Mac along with Christine Mc Vie

  • to my mum...who died recently of cancer....I know your all right now...x

  • Simply Beautiful, I crave to hear it many times and am grateful to have found it here.

  • Christine McVie has one of the best voices of Rock in recorded history, just plain beautiful.

  • loveee this song

  • It seems ironic to me that l didn't think for one minute that Christine McVie created this song and not just done a version of it. Normally original is the best, which is not the case with this song, unfortunately.

Whichever way we express our opinions, we are free to choose our frases and words we use. That's what the freedom of expression is all about. However, calling someone an "idiot" or "moron" is, quite frankly, pathetic and a sad waste of space.

  • Lina43 As far as the song goes I disagree and I think that Christine does the best version. However you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it. Someone who hides behind a computer and hurls insults at another for simply having an opnion is a very sad individual.

  • Superb it reminds me of times past and our mortality wish you happiness. thanks

  • love it

  • Beautiful song,It makes me think in the past. When i am with you is alright, I know is right...

  • They are both beautiful versions - just different. BTW, Christine wrote and sang it and is imo opinion most gloriously inspiring.

I would like to dedicate this song to my wife of 32 yrs. I miss her dearly. Please come home soon Julie.

  • What can they do with this song???? Eh, write it.

  • You're a moron, that's all there is to it.

  • Don't know who Eva Cassidy is or that she did the song so just checked. IMO Fleetwood Mac version at least as good as, for me it has more pathos and is less country & western.

"What did they do with this song?" I guess you had to say that, if you had simply said, "I liked the original" your comment wouldn't sound as important, dramatic or "knowledgeable".

  • i'm guessing you don't know that christine mcvie wrote this?

    idiot..

  • Eva does sing it beautifully, but considering Christine wrote and sang it, well, Eva wouldn't have it to sing now would she? Love ya' Christine :o)

  • superb

  • Beautiful Song..

  • Cannot ever forget this song...classic

  • Sorry, clicked on the wrong hand, supposed to be thumbs up. This is an awsome song and brings back a lot of memories.

  • Love this song, love this song, love this song. Come back Christine...

  • This song is absolutely amazing, it even makes a metal girl get teary-eyed =-)

  • Christine's is no 'version'. It's HER song, she composed it, it originates and ends with her. Others are just pale copies, no matter how lovely. Christine is the artist, the poet, the love there is from her.

  • more like, the original. and the idea of having to comment to someone due to their use of the word "version" to describe, a version of the song, orignal or not. And Eva Cassidy in my opinion did a very good take on this wonderful song, both their voices are ace.

  • This is one of those songs that can become anyone's song, they can make it their own, personal and special. I think Christine said that it was for everyone. What a gift!

  • Well said!

  • A history of love and friendship I thank you and remember Love is the most wonderful thing...Take care of it.For Marilyn x

  • to my beautiful mom, Marilynn....you deserve this...I can't wait to see you again.

  • I dedicate this song to my nephew John. You will always live in our hearts.

  • your such an ass hole show some respect one day you will be dead to.

  • This song sucks. Haha. Just kidding. 70s music is the best cuz it's real.

  • wonderful just wonderful thank you

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • A beautiful song indeed. Really gets me every time. What more is there to say, really?

  • I saw her sing this almost 20 years ago now. She was truly magnificent.

  • my husband loves this song

  • thats sad luvbriankinney...been there..

  • I heard this for the 1st time when I was with someone very special this weekend. He is someone I love very deeply but will never be able to have love me back. It fits our situation perfect! I sang it to him as I gazed deeply into his eyes & I truly think he felt what I was feeling. The words are amazing!!

  • im 13 years old and i absolutely love fleetwood mac. i get it from my dad guess it runs in the genes!

  • Every doris I met, liked this song for some twit they knew before me.. Now this just reminds of ex-dorises.. how can music unlock stuff we hide away from.. ace song..

  • There are many comments here regarding Eva Cassidy's version of the song. I do love that version with all my heart, and Eva shall rest in peace forever - but Christine wrote the song, and without the song being written, it could not have been sung.

  • This was the version I always knew and loved. Ive only just heard Eva Cassidys version. I like both, but I prefer this one because its simple and this song sounds better that way.

  • Thanks for reminding me of Rumours. We used to have the album years ago but I had forgotten loads of the tracks. Christine McVie has a truly terrific voice.

  • How come I have never heard Christine McVie's version before - the original I presume. Eva Cassidy's is much more sentimental but this is wonderful, true emotion. Love this one!

  • this is THE version from the 70s album Rumours . One of the greatest albums of all time. Eva Cassidy's version although very good probably gains notoriety because of her untimely death.

  • good, but not a patch on eva cassidys !!

  • Hello cossielass, after reading your comment regarding Eva Cassidy,I listened a couple of times to it and you'r right it is really good, but she did tend to stretch the words much like ordinary "pop stars"do and I'm afraid that put me off her version. However,I listened to a few other of her songs and was so impressed that they are now in my favourites list. Thanks for that.

  • P.S.I've just found "Autumn Leaves" by Eva Cassidy and it's gone straight in at No1 on my all time top 10 favourites.I am deeply indebted to you.

  • NickellNo1 Im so glad to have been of service to you and its nice to be appreciated for something....however little Thankyou kate x

  • May I be so bold as to suggest "Athair Ar Namh" by Enya. If you like Eva Cassidy you might like this.

  • thank you for sharing this beautiful song:))

  • Simply Beautiful, heartbreaking!!

  • Exceptional

  • Simply beautiful. Up their with Fields of Gold.

  • Wonderful song. Never tire of it.

  • ty for sharing this...yes its beautiful:)

  • Such a heart...felt..song!

  • John McVie and Mick Fleetwood used to stand backstage during concerts when this was played and cry.

  • And so would I

  • My heart is breaking and this song breaks it all over again.

  • Just one more chip off an already broken heart!! I hear you Dawn :( ~Suze

  • I saw FM live in Australia in 1980. It is one of the best concerts I've ever seen despite Stevie Nicks appearing to be a bit burnt out by the length of the tour. Festival Hall is a huge auditorium, but during this song I was the only person there and Christine was singing it only to me.

  • It must have been so awesome for you. Hopefully I might get to experience this too when Fleetwood Mac goes on tour soon.

  • Yes, that's right, fartracer. it was the length of the tour that burned Stevie out. Nothing else. ;-)

  • i love this song!!

and both versions, eva's and hers, a wonderful even different...

    =))

  • wonderful and very special

  • i have always preferred her singing over Stevie Nicks(although they compliment each other well).

  • I love that song ... just wonderful ...

  • one of my favorites

  • Thank you dear one for sending this to me today! I will cling to these words!!

    Love

    ~BJ~

  • Afraid you've got it all wrong. Definitely wrong.

  • i never get tired of this song..it's perfect!i love it..

  • this song is so good, so slow and moody its perfect.

  • Thanks so much for posting this beautiful gem from the Rumours CD. Whatever she does, Christine Perfect McVie always shines....
