Talladega was a experiment, so that one really doesn't count. However, Daytona sucked in 2008 for the same reason it did last year (until the last 50 laps of course): tires wore away as soon as they were put on the car due to hot conditions and a VERY slick racetrack. All I mean is that give these things until the end of the year, it might get very interesting.
I didnt think Daytona sucked this year. I thought the cars were able to break up into smaller packs (one thing NASCAR wanted to try and lessen the chances of a big wreck), but just as much passing was happening.
Davey Allison's flip at Pocono in '92 did the same thing. Boys was lucky to escape unharmed; Davey suffered a broken arm and a severe concussion when his head and *right* arm flailed out the window during his flip.
nope, he isnt racing for HK, he is racin for himself, the odd busch race. The hk deal fell apart before it even started. I was with him on saturday, no more HK. He is running modifieds in western Canada, calgary.
2002 thats the only time i ever saw any of the nascar classics shows on speed, and yea all they usually did was the 500 from 79-00 i also saw the 00 pepsi 400 and this race
When did SPEED show this? I would love it if CBS Sports would release remastered DVD's of the Daytona & 'Dega races that they covered from 79 through the '80's. I miss seeing these cars & races without restrictor plates at these tracks.
Yeah, I knew that he never flipped over. That's why I'm waiting to see 48 flip, lol. I assume you like him and I am not with you on that but I think we all can agree to this: WHAT A RACE TONIGHT!
you can see his head snap out the window for a second at 19. thats why nascar mandated the window nets after a similar incident happened to richard petty in which he slammed his head on the pavement.
I thought he did this a Charlotte as well?
Anyhow I've met Trevor, Wheeler. very nice Family.

At 3:16, when the car rocks back slightly just before leaving the pavement and into the grass, it looks like you can see the white helmet clearly.
I'm not sure there is a window net there at all. I'm not too familiar with pre-1990 NASCAR cars.
Did they have window nets in '84?

To each his own I guess. Watching the Shootout and the 150's, the 500 felt like a step down. That's my in most humble opinion.
BadBooking 4 years ago
I posted that before even the Stewart/Busch Thing happened... sorry, ya it was actually a great speedweeks
aptg95 4 years ago
well the 500 didn't have a proper ending, if it were al 200 laps, it might've been like the 2008 Daytona 500.
