This thing is too slow for business people and weekend pilots fly mostly for fun. These kinds of designs make it neither a good car nor a good airplane= complete waste of time and money. And like most people have commented here a single crash could take out thousands if it crashes into some kind of a building. The reason this design is completely impractical is not because of the technical problems. The main reason is that it doesn't make sense economically. With any of these designs you still have to go to the airport to take off legally. That defeats the very purpose of this design. If you have to drive to the airport anyway it's much more economical and practical to simply drive your own car to the airport, get into an FAA certified plane, fly to your destination and simply rent a car there!

Publicity stunt or not, there is a definant vision in doing a horizontal take-off car instead of a vertical take off one like Moller has been working on. Unfortunately, as with any airplane, flight stability is going to be an issue. I wonder if this thing has been tested in a 200 mph wind tunnel yet, though.

On the other hand, since many people seem to have a hard enough time navigating in 2D space, I can't imagine the magnitude of the challenges associated with something like this. 1. What "sientist"? In fact, what IS a :scientist"?? 2. All gasoline automotive engines end up requiring a catalytic converter as part of their emissions package. The FAA would NEVER certify a catalytic equipped engine. Not only that but the catalytic converter would have to be HUGE as aircraft engines typically run at 75% power while cruising. Automotive engines run at maybe 10%. And, that's just the catalytic. You couldn't even hope to BEGIN the FAA certification process with a smog motor.

Practicality isn't the point, its possibility. Once a feasible model is established, then the process of refinement and eventual production can take place. Try to remember how the early heavy-than-air concept crafts looked and failed until a viable balance between form and function was founded. This is very similar to those early days of aviation, and will hopefully find similar success with time and experimentation.

you're not. most people wont be any better off, its not a mass transport solution. This is a vehicle for people with lots of cash who need to get from A to B as fast as possible. It has nothing to do with solving traffic jams. The pilots license and purchase price will prevent most people from owning one, and thats a good thing.

i think folding wings would be one of the best option we would have to convert a car into plane. I am talking about the substance he has put in this thing to become a plane. just because you put a folding wing on a car it doesn't become a plane. And there is nothing wrong with starting the project with that, but before you give interviews you should have something solid in your hand. He realized that he wasn't gonna get any further then that so he gave interview to get 5 min of fame

Hey I'm just stateing the facts. How many jetpacks have you seen flying around your neighborhood? They are not illegal to own.You don't even need a pilots licence to fly them they are concidered ultralights.They are just very expensive to fill for 30 seconds of flight!

Publicity stunt or not, there is a definant vision in doing a horizontal take-off car instead of a vertical take off one like Moller has been working on. Unfortunately, as with any airplane, flight stability is going to be an issue. I wonder if this thing has been tested in a 200 mph wind tunnel yet, though.

On the other hand, since many people seem to have a hard enough time navigating in 2D space, I can't imagine the magnitude of the challenges associated with something like this.
