  • Would there be some way you could improve the frame rate?

  • @tcaudilllg

    Sure.

By playing it on a real CPC.

  • This just makes me want to hunt down the coders behind the original CPC version and beat them to death with a baguette.

    Wicked stuff.

  • NOW AVAILABLE ON CPC.RTYPE.FR

  • The CPC 6128 was my first computer, and i also have many fond memories from it :-) And i am very happy to see the CPC getting justice for all those awful spectrum ports that we Amstrad users had to endure !

  • Impressive work mate!

The CPC 464 was my very fond computers and I have many fond memories of it ;-)

  • Holy shit. Justice is (finally) served.

  • Thank you for your interest.

There are much progress since this video and the game is close to be finished.

  • Has there been more progress on this game since this video was first uploaded here? I would love to be able to play this one day!

  • @EgoShredder Sure. :)

  • Impressive gfx, but the scrolling slowdowns are painful to watch

  • I'm pretty sure the Amstrad version wasn't the first home console port of R-Type. I think you're thinking of the Master System version.

  • @Pokpal178 The first (and best) version was done on PC-Engine and the first micro-computer version on MSX. Both in 1988.

  • Some weeks.

  • so whens the release date anyone know ????

  • Hmm, i'm not sure if it can reach the speccy version in any way. The CPC got alot of resources and tricks to make at least the scrolling smoother. The Speccy 48K had no scrolling, no changing of the screen memory address, no double buffer and so on. Yet, it's probably technically the best version for 8Bit computers.

This game mainly reminds me of AMC, but in a bad way. The Graphics are all nice, the sound is alright but the scrolling ruins it for me...

  • @AmstradExin

You have to remember this is emulation and additionnal crunch from Youtube compression.

I tested a pre-version on a real Amstrad CPC and it looks far smoother on a real CPC Cathodic Monitor.

Also while playing you don't have time to notice.

Anyway this IS the speccy version too actually (same source code) but the Video capabilities of the Amstrad enable cooler visual features too.

  • I don't think this game will ever see the light of day... Hope I'm wrong!!!

  • Very similar a MSX2 version.

  • Very good work here. The passion shows through. It is nice to see R-Type running so quickly on the Amstrad here - well done! :)

  • I'm impressed! A terrific feat of programming indeed. This is what the original CPC release should've been instead of the awful port over from a 48K Spectrum. Good job, lads! :)

  • Outrun isn't possible on the CPC, but the plus could probably handle a half decent conversion?

  • imagine what they could do with OUTRUN

  • wow total respect for easter egg... Makes me want to buy my old amstrad again and buy this game...I would !!

  • Has this game been cancelled? No updates for the last three months... I fear the worst.

  • @ukmarkh Don't Worry, it's not.

You don't want to show more before it was released.

    Thank you to understand us.

  • @ukmarkh No worries about this , that's just a lot of work that needs time and we want to keep surprises for release ;)

  • just fuck! the best 8-bit version, better than speccy one and far better than the original cpc one! i don't comment c64 version which is very crippled (except title music ;)

  • @factor6 Thank you for your comment Factor6. (and your work on Batman Demo)

I hope you'll like our "title screen" music too ! ;)

  • It does look good... who knows? Amstrad owners might get a decent port of Salamander next... then it'll be on par with the C64 as a shoot-em-up platform ;-)

Then they'll be no need for a C64 lol

  • @ukmarkh

With a somewhat slow-paced shooter like R-Type, you can almost get away with the sluggish frame rate seen in this video. Not sure it would work for Salamander though. Not only is it a faster paced game, but add in the player's multiples, the ripple lasers, the leaping flames on level 3... the whole thing would chug chug chug.

  • What's the release date for this?

  • @ukmarkh First half of 2011.

  • Youtrume: this might be down to the video... Fingers crossed.

  • A very interesting work: this version is better than the previous one, particularly for the graphics and sound-wise. However, the animation is still jerky and it seems slow.

  • So excided about this game it really looks stunning. Had to watch it several times as there is so many detail in the background and similar i didnt notice the first time. Great audio/sfx too :D

  • Great job so far!

  • Yeah, very nice, but at the beginning, the other ships are going a tad too fast for the slowish scrolling.

  • Thanks guys ! :)

  • Amazing work, well impressed by this!!

  • Absolutely stunning. Well done Easter Egg. And thanks Xyphoe for uploading. Looks like a really faithful conversion in every respect. Great graphics and sound - some of the best music I've heard on CPC. Can't wait to see the rest.

  • YEAH!!!!!

  • The end of level jingle is so nostalgic... =)

  • Very nice work (followed the link from the RG forum), just seems a tad _too_ fast this time around?

And also... BLOODY BAH @ 128k.. i've only got stock 464 and 464 plus' :(

  • This looks oustanding, love the colour palette on the amstrad. The screen has nice smooth scrolling, no flicking between screens. I'd say this is looking a lot closer to the TG16/PCE version, with it's speed and sound. Better than the Master System, the non FM sound is lacking and the ship is too slow, but in this version it looks really smooth :) Looking forward to seeing what they do with the giant ship you attack in level 3 I think? Love to see this re released by Psytronik, id buy one :D

  • I'm impressed by this work. Congrats guys!!

  • @norecess464 Easter Egg are a very talented team indeed :)

  • I'm flabbergasted !

At last CPC gets justice for those lazy Spectrum ports.

I really can't wait for the final version.

    Thanks for sharing mate.

  • @alex76gr My pleasure dude and glad you like so much! And there are more improvements to come .... plus just wait till you see the later levels!!

  • Outstanding work sir! Look forward to seeing the completed project.

  • I've already mentioned I think it's amazing. Let's hope they'll release it on disk, with packaging.

  • @ukmarkh hey mate when r u gonna make some new vids for the CPC????

  • @Misel982001 When I first started doing the vids there really wasn't that much CPC coverage... it's amazing now, the CPC is covered every where! These days I'm mostly concentrating on my new book, The Book of Arnold.

  • @ukmarkh what is your book about?

  • @Misel982001 It's called 'The book of Arnold' and will cover the CPC, and the scene that built up around it.

  • @ukmarkh I'm already intered on your book.I don't know if it ever reaches Greece. Will you post any copies here?

  • @ukmarkh hey mate, is your book ready?

  • Another CPC miraculous game....This ain't no remake, this is a brand new R-Type 8 bit version. Smooth scrolling and animation, great graphics and color selection, and nice sound, compose a hit. 2011 will be a great year for the CPC! 1000X THANX to Xyphoe for this exclusive preview!!!!

  • Great stuf, so much better than the original! Thanks for showing this!

  • that's some feat to achieve this..fantastic work, I never had a CPC but might look into this when it's released, it's very close to the Atari ST version graphic wise, so amazing work on doing that.

  • @DDGreyfox Interestingly I believe the Speccy version had it's graphics ported over from the Atari ST version, now in a strange 'coming full circle' like these things happen it's now looking again like the ST version! LOL
