Wow, maniaxzg is a douche. 'If the technique is bad, so is the tune'. Lol, in taht case, why even listen to music? Why not let's just watch a silent video of someone shredding guitar.
He has an interesting way with words. Not many other artists would use a line like 'you were the first girl at school to get breasts'. I actually don't know any other song that refers to breasts as... 'breasts'.
I used to listen to this all the time hanging out with friends back when it was released. We were 15 going on 16 and I used to listen to the line 'Let's all meet up in year 2000, won't it be strange when we're all fully grown?' and the year 2000 seemed so far away; being 'fully grown' seemed so far away. Now 10 years have passed since the year 2000. There is no moral or point in this story.
He's only about 6'2". His lankiness, and standing on a raised platform makes him look taller. There's a video of him with Sacha Baron Cohen (as Ali G) who is 6'3" and he is taller than Jarvis.
@maniaxzg Nothing wrong with his technique. This song is not supposed to be a shredding wankfest in the first place. Now scurry off and watch some Paul Gilbert instruction video introducing natural harmonics tapping exercises exploring the 5th mode of the Lydian scale while sporting tight pink spandex and a leather singlet.
@maniaxzg dude if you don't like it don't watch it. Maybe if you could get out and actually see bands live you'd appreciate how rare and tbh pretty awesome bands like pulp are. plus you think his lyrics are bad? listen to Mis-Shapes. If that don't change ur mind then ur a douche. Cocker's a genius with words. end of.
@maniaxzg I think you need to learn something about guitars man, it doesn't have to be a ripping solo to be amazing. What about Nirvana Team Spirit? or Wake Me Up by Green day? Anything! Amazing guitar tunes without even bending a string or a single fancy effect.
@DecsyWest That what the shitty metal music does, everything related to it means guitar with tons of effects and the real melody can flow, fuck all that shit!
@maniaxzg Eh? How can you play chords without forming a riff?
Whilst I love good Guitar bands that churn out good and sometimes intricate riffs (Manics, Stone Roses, Oasis etc) not all great bands are defined by how many times they hammer on/pull off etc. Pulp are made awesome by all the melodies coming together and of course, Jarvis just being Jarvis
Though if you're judging a band purely by their guitarist then listen to This Is Hardcore - Mark Webber played some good stuff on that album
We have cover this song in back of 2001, when our band need some influence of various brit pop, we go into it, feel the rhythm. so yeah we also got a few song refer by this Disco 2000, it is awesome to get Pulp as our main factor to still alive, hell yeah!

@MsBabster That is rubbish because this was not their first song. Their first single was "do you remember the first time" in April 1994. Further more it says on your profile that you are 29. That means you were only 13 in 1994 when they recorded their first single and so could not have been working in a bank as you would still be at school.
@BurntOakTree A lot of women don't like to reveal their true age, and i noticed that when asked alot of htem will say 29 such as "Forever 29", when they are probably older. Also she said that she was a fan of the band already, and didn't say that this song was their first single as u had implied she did

@BurntOakTree I don't understand. Pulp released their first single in 1983 - 'My Lighthouse' (from their first album 'It'). 'Do You Remember the First Time' was released 11 years later from 'His 'n' Hers' (their forth album).
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however I believe that any Pulp fan would probably tell 'thehoff1982' that Pulp have more than two very good songs... I'm assuming you mean Disco2000 and Common People? Many Pulp fans wouldn't even say that these are either of their best songs... just the most mainstream. The different class album is one of the most complete albums I've ever heard... and His'n'Hers has some amazing tracks... If you've not heard "Underwear" give it a listen... immense!
I bought a CD of NOW 3 in 97 (green color) because it had the song Lemon Tree, but when I heard this song and Spacemen, I immediately got in love of my CD, unfortunately my CD got stolen when I went to the beach, and I am paying good money to have one of those again.., any offers around??
