You don't know nothing kid, nothing. rather be scum of the slum than a yuppie. i wonder how you afford live in Somerville. ya probably from Cambridge.
I really like Somerville, especially after gentrification, it's a much better place, take it from someone who's been here since 1992, back then it was shit, idk why there are people who want it like that again. at least now i can walk down the bike path without getting robbed. sorry folks but that's the world, if you can't afford to live somewhere then move out!
Nice Nice Video. I really loved your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed, check out this site called tubeviews [dot net] It has really done wonders for me, I have built 3 Channels up with videos at top in position and this is my forth channel i'm going to working on.
I think some of the comments below are right on—Somerville was a more tight knit community before this so called revitalization. For me community and family go hand and hand. When I was a kid, there were five other families with kids my age within a stone's throw of my house. Now it feels like there aren't any kids around because there aren't any families.
When I was at SHS there were more than 2000 kids there. My Mom's still a teacher at SHS and she says there's less than half the kids there now. Families are moving out because they can't afford to live here and that is sad. Now Mayor Curtatone is trying to convince families to stay in Somerville and that's a problem that Mayor Brune wasn't facing, before this revitalization.
SOMERVILLE IS NOT SUBURBAN! It is URBAN. It is a city. It is more densely populated than Boston. And even Teele square is closer to downtown Boston than parts of Roxbury and Dorchester. PLEASE change that in your little description of this video.
Davis Square, home of Somerville yuppies. In case any of you nit wits havent opened your eyes, its a piece of shit, excuse for harvard sq."used to be called......Slumerville" OH MY GOD, dont refer to it as such a TABOO NAME.
Thanks for the suggestion, dick, but guess what, before you came, we still somehow managed to pay our taxes to fund our schools. I don't know how, we were only blue collar workers and somehow we managed to make a life for ourselves. You don't seem to realize that we were here before you, we don't need your help, and we don't want it. If you don't like us, don't move in with us, "scummy townies", so fuck you.
They should change Davis Square to Cambridge. Somerville doesn't deserve Davis Square yuppies. If you want to be a scummie townie, stay dumb and keep going to McDonalds. Our yuppie property taxes pay for your kids education
"No matter who you are, there's a coffee shop and a place for you in Davis Square",....how about the locals that can't afford it anymore! thanks scumbags..
. I just think its so funny that whenever these outsiders talk about how much they love Somerville, they only talk about Davis Square. Somerville is STILL Slummerville for most people, just not for the rich newcomers who don't venture outside their protective little square. Over twenty Somerville youths have died from suicide, drug abuse of murder in the past few years and you people just look at Davis Square and smile, completely oblivious to the real world around them.
Mark McLaughlin's no-BS speech at the Youth Peace Conference is far more about Somerville than all the pretentious babble of Davis Sq. yuppies. Davis Sq. is just a bubble-world unto itself.
Davis square is not Somerville. Somerville is not Davis Square. Davis Square is just an extension of Cambridge and in no way reflects what Somerville is really like. The REAL Somerville is a tight-knit, working class community, Irish, Italian, and Portuguese, not to mention the Haitians, El Salvadorians Cambodians and all the other groups that make up the city. But Davis Square is NOT Somerville, it is everything the real Somerville is not.

Does "gentrification" = "hip?"
If you're an upscale homeowner near Davis Sq., does that make you "hip?"
Somerville was urban; now it's "suburban." Got rid of those unhip bluecollar stiffs.
