True that Whitney has accomplished alot, no one can take her success away from her. I am not on here trying to take anything from her. But Oprah isn't singer and Madonna has did nothing but use gimmick her whole career. We are not talking about who has a bigger bank account. We are talking about importance in the music ,and Aretha is the most important singer in music and the most respected. Her success paved the way for Whitney to have her success and no amount of money will change that.

Her voice control and range was declining. By the time Aretha was 29 her voice was getting better anf better.

Aretha never was into long tours, thats why she never did a world. She was in a position where she didn't have to do a World Tour to make big money. The money in music is in songwritting, producing and touring. And Aretha wrote and produced her music. So she didn't have to tour as much as Whit had to. But don't get it twisted Aretha has toured all over the world. And are you kidding me, Aretha has been to Europe in 30 year and she is still well known and remembered there.

It is not only in my eyes. The world agrees with me. Whitney is great but nothing about her is better than Aretha her low note, her mid range, and her high note have nothing on Aretha's. Aretha voice was more connected than her. And Aretha high note were out of this world. Aretha's high note were better and more effortless than Whit's. Aretha back in the 60's and 70's had it all. There is not distance between Aretha and Mahalia, but they are between Aretha and Whitney. Aretha place in the gospel field is no insult at all. No one sung gospel like Aretha. Her roots in the gospel have are deeply embodied into her. Everything she sung was touched with the feel of the spirit. That is no insult. what are you talking about, anything past C5 is not pure pure chest voice but then comes point for some singers where they slide more then 30 percent head voice to support and increase there belting range. aretha had a great belting range because she mixed past C5, whitney and mariah who never went past A5 had purer chest voices and could hit E'S AND f's with 20 percent head voice, unlike aretha who need atleast 40 percent.

@Viejitz maybe I wrongly stated my post. What I meant to say was that no other female artist in music has accomplished what Whitney has accomplished. Michael Jackson has but not too many other artists have (including male and female) and if they have, just name them for me.

Her voice was power. Pure and strong. And Chaka nor Patti ain't on the same level as Ree. No one but Ella Fitzgerald and Mahalia Jackson are.

But it was. 1992 was the year that Whitney's voice began to show flaws. And it only got worser with the long bodyguard tour. But even with her voice not being at it's best Whitney was still amazing. Still better than MC and anyone else from her musical generation.

Now dont get me wrong Aretha is one of a kind no lie... the women is bad! i love her singing very very much. You really cant put her and whitney in the same cat. whitney is more pop. But i was very dissapointed in her last summer when she came to Houston... she didnt sound anything like the Aretha i Know. but i guess age takes a toll. Whitney dont sing as good either. I agree with u somewhat. but its not really fair to compare them.

Aretha used to sing well many many years ago. She had ruined her vocal cords and sings only in her head voice. She has mastered it and respect does it's thing. But you can't compare her to someone as vocally armed as Whitney.

No i think you got it twisted. It is Whitney that you can't compare to someone as vocally and musicallly armed as Aretha. Aretha had more range than Whitney. Plus Ree hit higher notes and did them more often than Whit did. Also Ree's prime lasted longer than Whits. Sure Aretha has her bad day but she still has more of a voice to work with Whit. Who is about 20 years younger than Aretha. Aretha after her prime still had a voice, she could work with.

Range? You REALLY know what that is :).
Search for the Shoop Shoop Song by Aretha - you will find her singing in her own voice. And listen to any other record, a decade later. You will notice her tone quelity changed. She does not add chest voice into the mix anymore, except when going to the bottom of the bottom. Singing that way, range becomes no-issue, just like in falsetto. H.V. has some power, but it lacks depth and connection to the bottom.

Aretha's voice was alway changing. From the early 60's to the late 60's to the 70's her voice was getting higher. By the 70's she was at her voice vocally. And Aretha now is still great at 67. But Aretha alway had a higher range than Whit. And she just started singing in faletto in the 2000's. But whitney lost her voice control way too short by the time she was 29 in 92. Her voice control and range was declining. By the time Aretha was 29 her voice was getting better anf better.

not really, there range was the same.......whitney is a mainstream singer, its completely different expectastions, aretha has never done a world tour and is virtually unknown in europe, whereas whitney has more of a following outside of north america. vocally whitney is superior if you were to compare them both in their primes, aretha is great but is one of the most hyped up singers of all time and get more praise then she deserves

Aretha never was into long tours, thats why she never did a world. She was in a position where she didn't have to do a World Tour to make big money. The money in music is in songwritting, producing and touring. And Aretha wrote and produced her music. So she didn't have to tour as much as Whit had to. But don't get it twisted Aretha has toured all over the world. And are you kidding me, Aretha has been to Europe in 30 year and she is still well known and remembered there.

Aretha has did a huge Europe and Africa tour in 1976. And that wasn't her first time overseas. She has been to Europe and Africa dozens of times in her prime. And her impact their is still strong. Also as great as Whit was she was superior to Aretha, Aretha was superior to Whit. Vocally Aretha was more effortless and skilled. I think people boost up Whitney more than what she was. Eventhough she's great, people overwork her ability making it seem like she is better than what she is.

Not to say that Whitney isn't great because Whitney was a great singer. The best of her generation. But there were singers that in their primes were better than her like Aretha, Mahalia, and Ella. What makes a voice supreme? One that is not easily imitated by others and is immediately recognizable by not only sound, but style as well. Very FEW singers reach that pinnacle. Therefore you have Aretha, Dionne,Gladys, Patti, Streisand, Luther, Ray Charles, and perhaps a few others. Whitney granted, can sing, but she has not reached the pinnacles mentioned above.. nor will she ever since she chose to destroy her career.

Aretha and Mahalia are vocally equals. They are on the same level when it comes to singing, so it really is nothing crazy about it. And of course. Aretha was better than Whitney. Whitney was amazing but better than Aretha at her all time best is insane. No one is better than Aretha. The only singers that i can think of that are on are her same level are Ella Fitzgerald and Mahalia Jackson. Whitney was the best of her generation but compared to thoughs three women. She wasn't as great.

It is not only in my eyes. The world agrees with me. Whitney is great but nothing about her is better than Aretha her low note, her mid range, and her high note have nothing on Aretha's. There is not distance between Aretha and Mahalia, but they are between Aretha and Whitney. Aretha place in the gospel field is no insult at all. No one sung gospel like Aretha. Her roots in the gospel have are deeply embodied into her. Everything she sung was touched with the feel of the spirit. That is no insult.
