  • The use of a throw away sterile needle is best.

And I believe the only resonably safe area is the ear lobe.

Many other areas are just plain crazy and dangerous.

  • ive always had mine done in the mall, if you clean your ear correctly and take care of the piercing, its fine.

  • All piercings should be done with needles... and cartilage piercings are perfectly safe if they're done with needles and not guns.

  • im 14 and i have both ears pierced, i love them!!

  • i did both my ears with a needle I found and had to do it multiple times because my friends were drunk and didnt get it centered, they healed in a couple weeks and never got infected

  • Well, I am 26 I got mine done at 25 (I had them done and they closed up more than once.) I thought it would be cool to get 2 in one ear and 1 in the other. Well, I had such a bad infection, it was HORRIBLE and I followed all the directions. If you have skin conditions REALLY REALLY think twice about pearcings. I had them done a few times but, I only had a serious problem once.

  • great dude thanks for fucking ruing my future 13th birthday. i was gonna get the top of my ear pierced. damn

  • an also it depends on how u take care of it!

  • i got my ears done wen i was 6mths but they closed up then again wen i was 7 then wen i was 13 an ima about to get another (im 16)...no cartlidge) an guess wat.............im going to the mall....im scared to get my belly done..mom wont let me eny way

  • i got mine done at a mall with a gun and u know what happened 2 me .......... nothing and guess what im 13

  • I'm 12 and i have 2 ear cartilage piercings on each ear so that's four in total and then i have my left tragus done adn my right conch done and none of then have got infected i do get scared about the infections you can get from the piercings and i am aware of them but to be honest people dont really get scared because they think oh its ok mine wont get infected it will be fine, but my top ear got really swallen and i just left it and it became infected and after two days the infection had gone!

  • i hear a new england accent!

  • Body piercing? Any time an invasive procedure is done to the body there is always a risk of infection. Belly piercings are risky because of the location. What if you get an infection in the abdominal wall...this can actually be life threatening. With tattoos and body piercings, there is also the risk of communicable transmission of diseases.

  • When we asked my daughter's pediatrician about ear piercing he said not until 20. Kids are still growing until they are 20 and can easily get infections in their ear because their ear canals are shorter until they are grown.

  • Any tattoo artist or piercer in a tattoo studio WITH a bloodborne pathogen OSHA approved certification card would have the same sterile equipment and autoclaves as any doctor by the way. It's up to the customer to do the homework on the place.

  • That's scarey, I'm glad I had my ears pierced already.

As a young teenager, my mum wouldn't let me go to the jeweller's to have my ears pierced and I let my friend to it with a needle that we held in a flame.

That was painful and got infected- and I still have a little black dot on my earlobe from the blackened needle.

Do you think body piercings are dangerous?

  • PS

I am opposed to babies having their ears pierced.

    Why do parents do that?

There is nothing wrong with a baby's unpierced ears.

I think that children should not have their ears pierced until they are old enough to ask for it.

I never let my daughter have her ears pierced until she asked for it, which was around school age.

  • Yes

  • I have multiple piercings. For most of them I went to a proper piercing shop. If you go to a proper shop with knowledgeable staff and proper sterile equipment, that greatly reduces any danger. NEVER get it done at the mall. Gun piercings are bad. Proper needle piercings cost more, but they are much much safer. Of course, there is always the risk of infection or whatever.

  • Guns are dangerous! That's what the motto is at the peircing shop I go to.

  • We agree

  • When you look at the historical significance of ear piercing it is to signify you are willing to be a slave for life to someone else.

Why people do it now is for various reasons.
