  • Live and death willingly and powerfully blended in this masterpece, thus nearly unbeatable. This is art.

  • can someone please date this performance?

  • @A626fan It was approximately 6 months before he died so it would have been early 1983, I believe.

  • me encanta.

  • a great artist!

  • Rest In Peace sweet prince.

You came to earth to save to humanity and unfortunately your home planet needed you back.

Parted to soon. We will never forget

  • Genius, pure genius. The best version of this haunting piece available anywhere. Spoken as a Purcell lover and one who never heard of Nomi before seeing this rendition. Command of notes unparalleled. Crispness of diction unequaled. Delivery of "...unwillingly ..." - - incredible. Perfect theatrical flourishes. The Elizabethan collar is the icing on the cake. Love it and tune it in frequently.

  • He looks terribly tired on this performance but his vice is still powerful. <3

  • beautifll

  • juste magnifique

  • Unbelievable talent. For someone to have that talent and also be so creative is such an anomaly it blows my mind.

  • NOMI WAS A SUPEALATIVE OPERA SINGER THAT WAS DISCOVERED TOO LATE,I LIKED HIM W/DAVID BOWIE ON SAT NITE LIVE. SORRY HE's GONE NOW.

  • To stop wars this song should be played....Everyone would drop their arms and start crying..Nomi was an angel amongst us with his voice.

  • It should be taken into serious account, that by the time he was doing this live opera performance, the man was already seriously ill from HIV/AIDS, a disease they hardly knew or understood at the times. This needed true courage.

  • sublime

  • What an interesting creature. Brilliant!

  • as a singer i appreciate his voice but i really dont like what he is singing but the voice itself is great

Mille bravo +++

  • This song must be extremely difficult to sing. Nomi performed it flawlessly!

  • Oh my God, this is mesmerising. Angel and devil, who cares? It's so sad he left the planet too soon.

  • Lyrics for interested:

What power art thou, who from below

Hast made me rise unwillingly and slow

    From beds of everlasting snow

See’st thou not ( how stiff )2) and wondrous old

Far unfit to bear the bitter cold,

I ( can scarcely move or draw my breath )2)

Let me, let me freeze again to death.3)

  • from King Arthur by Henry Purcell :) you can remember him from Dido and Aeneas... also Klaus Nomi sang Dido's lament too :) he's impressive

  • hermoso...

  • KLAUS NOMI! YOU RULE. And a dick belongs in a dudes ass as much as it does in a chicks ass. FUCK ALL OF YOU HATERS!!

  • I am doing my Internship at LA County Department Of Mental Health, & yes those cruel people who called Klaus Nomi (who by the way had way more talent that most of the singers that are famous now adays) a fag have great intolerance issues and need Psychological and/or Psychiatric care. Mr. Nomi died from Aids just about the time when his career was going to explode into great fame, May his music never die and may his memory live with those who respect others regardless of race,& Sexual Orientat

  • the homophobes that have posted unkind things here require some help for their mental health issues, then they may discover and become content with their repressed identity. yes, klaus was a fag, so am i, what of it? you, the homophobes probably are too but can't deal with it. deal with it, then you can get on with your lives, chill out and enjoy a nice hot hard cock up your asses just like it do. deep down you know you'll love it.

  • This is simply vocal genius!!! Amazing!

  • @markx64 Because straight people never get AIDS, right?

  • wow, he was on another level.

  • What a shame ! In a complete different kind of music, did exist on youtube a famous video, amongst David Bowie's fans, of the the Saturday Night Live of 1979 in which Klaus Nomi as backing vocal and David Bowie sung "The Man Who Sold The World", a Bowie song repertoir. The performance of both is just incredible. But for a video copyright reason it disapeared from youtube, you can only listening to it.

  • he sounded like a castrato....albeit, he wasn't

  • @lago4 Have you ever heard a castrato ?!

  • @Organiste06 youtube . com/watch?v=wv-S3uoeTXg

  • lovely Klaus Nomi, forever!

  • KLAUS!.... a late great legend of the oddity of what music can BECOME!

  • Incredible!

  • oh, this brings tears to my eyes.

  • ESTO ES ARTE

  • I can scarcely move or draw my breath.

  • I've read this was made some weeks before he died... isn't right ?

  • this was when his health'd begun to fail.

  • This is fantastic!

  • Quel est le titre de CE morceau ? Merci !

  • @yanndelabasinierre It's an aria from Henry Purcell's 'King Arthur', the title is Cold Genius, from third act.

What power art thou, who from below

Hast made me rise unwillingly and slow

    From beds of everlasting snow?

See'st thou not how stiff and wondrous old

Far unfit to bear the bitter cold,

I can scarcely move or draw my breath?

Let me, let me freeze again to death.

  • Great voice. Creepy though. Like a falsetto Marilyn Mason.

  • Yo quiero cantar como el (y) fabuloso!

  • impressionnent

  • This sounds clichéd- but that performance and song is haunting! Outstanding performer!

  • I finally watched 'The Nomi Song' yesterday. I loved him back in the day, and I had forgotten what a gifted talent he really was. That voice...

  • I have just discovered Klaus Nomi this month.

I must say, this performance is absolutely outstanding. Death is rarely expressed so beautifully...

  • @MrWoofington He died soon after this performance.

  • is it wrong to be german

  • i love the live versions of this song so much! i love you klaus!!

  • You rocked dude ^^

  • Is true that this presentation was almost the last of him?

  • @BOHEMIANMEX he died 6months later .. You can see hes gasping for air struggling in his performance.

  • AAMMAAAAAZZZZIIIIIIIINNNGGGGGGGGGG. hope to meet you in Heaven Klaus. thank you

  • you

  • such a wonderful voice

    R.I.P.

  • Fantastic!

  • The orchestration sounds very Italianate--compare Vivaldi's "L'inverno". Neat music and good modal/falsetto gradation in the perfomance.

  • Only Klaus Nomi could sing this song like this as it should be! Excellent, real art!

  • I Love it :D

  • Klaus, international Klaus, genius Klaus, will be alive in our hearts FOR EVER, AND EVER!!!

He was not german!! as he says in his interview, he is international! Love you, Monsieur Nomi!! Eternally...

  • officially this part of the opera is called "frost scene" sung by a character "the cold genius" who has been frozen, disappointed by love and life, and is now reluctantly woken by cupid. in purcell's original it is a bass aria
