  • Gone are the days when you could get that close to planespot at Hartsfield...now you have to go to the North terminal parking deck...and you don't get that great a view....or rent a room at the hotel by the runway....

  • I only got to see what I call the true golden days (ending at about this period) of jet aviation as a little kid...they came to an end right around the end of the 1990s. I was about four years old at the time this video was made and remember when STL was 727 heaven.

  • Delta flies DC-9s again!

  • I've had many arrivals and departures at Hartsfield International.

  • UPS still flies the DC-8, i was in new orleans two days ago and we had to hold short of the runways because a UPS DC-8 was taking off and last time i was there, i saw one land while waiting for my plane to get there

  • My first flight was on DAL M80, and connection on a 727. Miss that old, GOOD widget paint, the best delta had. I miss those days. Thanks for the great vid!

  • Couldn't be more impressed. What a look back!

  • wow! the 737-100, awesome sight, GREAT video!

  • Instant Fave! LONG LIVE THE 1011!!!

  • But Delta still operates DC-9's!

  • Nothing like the roar of a Pratt&Whitney Engine!

  • Great footage of ATL back in the good ole' days.Classic airliners, flying in classic colors! Love older footage like this! Thanks for sharing!

  • Where were you filming/standing ??

  • love the dc-8 and dc-9 sounds

  • 20 years ago! O-o

  • Wonderful work, taking me back to the last of the great days. We saw such a variety of aircraft in the early 90's, please let me kno where I can find more.

  • You brought back great memories!.My best times while at Delta. Thanks for posting!

  • Some good footage on a warm, breezy day at ATL.

BTW, the Continental Boeing 737, the one departing at the end of the clip, is a real rarity. It is a 100 series model! First in the fleet of Lufthansa, this jet was acquired by PeopleExpress, then became a Continental jet after Frank Lorenzo's CO bought out PE. The resulting labor strife nearly shut down the USA's entire aviation system.

At least Continental fared better in the long term than did Eastern.

  • @DaBlazesUSay

The Reason Continental faired better than Eastern was because Lorenzo moved assets from Eastern, the 2nd largest airline in the country, to Continental, the 14th largest, building up Continental at Eastern's expense. Continental went to number 5 in size and Lorenzo Liquidated Eastern. Eastern was put out of business on purpose. And I am glad the Continental name is gone. Screw Continental and Screw Lorenzo.

    He destroyed a great airline.

  • @JedHowe

Lorenzo should be in a Turkish Prison.

  • U FOEGOT THE DC-8

  • No, I only listed the airliners that are no longer flying with those airlines. At the time I uploaded this, UPS was still flying DC-8s. I also didn't list the Delta MD-88s.

  • @usafisasome u forgot the R

  • Thanks for the memories! 5/5!! The only video of a 737-100 I've ever seen on Youtube! I never did fly on a Tristar, but Ioved the DC-10!!

  • well, at least delta got the dc-9s back =)

  • 10 short years ago!

  • 20 akshually

  • This must have been shot weeks before Eastern shutdown.

  • Nice view of the L-1011 coming in at 3:00. Looks like a little crosswind.

  • People do......i do...esp close to a restricted area fence close to runway thresh hold.

As long as you are NOT in a restricted are, you're fine

  • md 88s are the best planes

ever made by mcdonell douglas (boeing)

dont care what no one say!!!!!

  • Both actually. The one at the beginning is indeed an MD-80 (I only tagged the birds no longer being operated), but the one on approach later is a DC-9, as indicated by the shorter fuselage and cone tail fairing. Delta operated DC-9-32s up until 1993 I believe (ironically, they now operate DC-9s again after the NWA merger, only they're the -51s now).

  • Aren't those MD-80's as opposed to DC-9's?

  • That's the correct full name today for ATL.

  • Ahh. Okay thanks!

  • I was fortunate enough to fly on a CO 737-100 between DAY-EWR in 1995. Reminded me alot of the old United 737-222's with those PW JT8D-7 engines. About 6 ft shorter and a slightly narrower wing span. Pretty quick to climb-out!

  • Didn't the airprot used to be called William B. Hartsfield Atlana International Airport?

  • Very nice! I especially like the engine rev up of the 737-130 towards the end of the video.

  • The 737-100's were neat planes and I actually had the chance to work all of the ones in the CO fleet before they were removed from service. The port rear exit door was actually a folding built-in automatic airstair. Good memories in those aircraft!
