  • guys plz relax hiv thos not kill you if you do what the docter says ur okay cancer on the other hand wont kill but its its tougher than hiv just listen dont quite on living and YOU WILL WIN dont let a virus stop you

  • im 17,and my father has HIV.i was devistated when i got the news from my fathers docter.all i can ever think about now is to keep him healthy and him stress free.its not what any kid wants to hear,we had our differences but i put all my emotions to the side for him.i cant lose my father, not so early.im doing my best to be strong for him and i just hope a cure is around sometime in the future.i love my dad and to lose hope means to lose him,and ill never lose hope.

  • @moocowpunk: Sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. Your father is lucky to have a child who loves him so much. It's good that you want to help him. But remember that your father wants you to have a full life of your own too. When I read "All I can ever think about now is to keep him healthy," I worry that you may be taking too much of the burden of your father's diagnosis on yourself. Make sure that you're thinking about and living your own life too. That will make him happy and proud.

  • @moocowpunk You may want to read the books "Boundaries" by Cloud and Townsend (which is a Christian book, incidentally) and "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie to make sure you define healthy boundaries to clarify what is your problem vs. his problem and what is your responsibility vs. your responsibility. By living a healthy life of your own, you'll best be able to help others including your father going forward.

  • @moocowpunk My heart goes out to you. However, having HIV doesn't mean he's going to die soon. As long as he's on antiretroviral medication, exercises regularly and is on a healthy diet, he'll be just fine. I know people who have lived with HIV for 10 to 20 years and are still going strong. It's definitely not a death sentence. I wish you all the best.

  • this made me cry... it's too late for me but i know where to put myself now... REGRETS are over. now i'v got hiv at age 21. rashes in my chest and back and hairfall..my mind is floating in the air when i first recievd the result of my hiv test.. evryday is a breathless and choking day of my life.. i dont know what to do...daddy is still alive but i think he is not around when i need him the most... im becoming crazy... God help me..

  • i haven't had sex for serveral months and i feel a lttle fatigue right now. Do i have hiv?

  • @MessageInBlood1: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. No one can diagnose anything over the Internet. See a doctor and get tested for HIV just to be safe.

  • So I heard that getting Cancer cures AIDS, and getting AIDS cure Cancer, is this true?

  • @Malkohut: Getting cancer does not cure HIV infection or clinical AIDS. Developing clinical AIDs does not cure cancer. You may have hear a confused retelling about the "Berlin patient," an HIV+ man who received a bone marrow transplant to cure leukemia or lymphoma (can't recall which) from a donor with natural resistance to HIV. This put his HIV into functional remission, but the technique can't be generally used for HIV since there's a 30% fatality rate on the bone marrow transplant procedure.

  • HI if your glands swell because of hiv how big will they become

  • How long do your lymph nodes become swollen for?

  • @thecommercialedge: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Remember that a person might contract HIV but not have their lymph nodes swell up (or show other symptoms) at all. I don't know what the average duration of swelling would be when they do swell.

  • @thecommercialedge It may take a few months for the nodes to go back to its pre-infection size :)

  • what about coughing.. i had sex with a hooker two weeks ago and my condom broke. now i been coughing out white mucus for weeks and i feel afraid and its really making me depressed..

  • @Bonespirit07: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. See a doctor, describe your symptoms and risk factors for HIV, and get tested for HIV while you're there.

  • I live in southern FL and here you can get tested for FREE and they do no ask your name or for any information. Get tested know your status the test only takes 15 minutes

  • does a handjob(no penetration..i.e no oral, anal, nor vaginal) with no condom give the slightest chance of stds or infection??

  • @bitethis47: This is Eric. I'm not a doctor, and it's not my place to give guarantees that a specific sexual practice will never have any risk of HIV. Generally speaking, intact skin on the hand (without cuts, scabs, or sores) is considered to be a good barrier against HIV transmission, and "hand jobs" are considered to be a "safer sex" practice posing little or no risk of HIV transmission. Can't speak to other STDs or conditions.

  • @AIDSvideos thks for the reply...so the chances are practically nill for hiv transmission through handjob...this is what i learned from my research as well...just wanted to be sure.

  • I'm waiting on my results still.

I have all of the above symptoms for 8+ months and my doctor's have evaluated every option except HIV. I'm praying to god I don't have it. I've had 5 sexual partner's in my lifetime and I fear I got it from one of my early partner's. People really don't realize how easy it is to get this disease. It's scary how many people are walking around today who practice promiscuity and un-safe sex... Just another statistic waiting to happen.

  • i had protected sex 4 times with a guy and later discovered he was hiv positive what s are the chances of me catching it please help..

  • @soniebaby1 You should get tested just to make sure you're safe. If you leave in the USA, you can get tested for free at government controlled clinics.

  • @soniebaby1: See a doctor, get tested, and follow the doctor's instructions including for any follow-up testing. Watch our vid "What's the Risk I Contracted HIV?" for more info.

  • I had hiv test result after 39 days passed possible exposure.

and the result was negative how effective is that?

  • @ATIFKOKEB11: Ask your doctor about how to interpret the meaning of your HIV test result and whether you should take any follow-up tests. Watch our vid "Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" to learn more, including how likely to be correct an HIV- test result is at various lengths of time after a person's last possible exposure.

  • please reply its been about 2 1/2 sence i gave oral but in the 3 years i have had about 3 of the common symptoms but im sooo scared. because that would ruin me

  • @samusXroto: See a doctor and get tested.

  • @AIDSvideos but i had surgery not that long ago and they took a blood test and they didnt find anything abnormal

  • @samusXroto: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Did they give you an HIV test when you had blood drawn before surgery? Do you know that for a fact? And was the result HIV-? *IF* they did an HIV test recently and it came back HIV- *AND* your last possible exposure to HIV by any means was 2.5 years ago, then you can be confident you're HIV-. If you're having symptoms of disease, see a doctor. If you've had more recent possible exposures, get tested for HIV.

  • THANK GOD IM A VIRGIN!

  • @xXLikeAbosSXx09 hahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahhaahahahahahahahahaha

  • @xXLikeAbosSXx09

thats great 2 hear...keep it that way

  • @xXLikeAbosSXx09 im a virgin too but had oral sex several times LOL

  • @zafiq19: see a doctor & get tested

  • @zafiq19 dude no need 2 panic jus relax. d chances of contacting the virus with a condom is low. also its harder for a man to get infected from a hiv infected woman. but still get tested to be on the safe side.

  • @fubarinwar dude. after ur first contracted HIV. U have to wait for 3 months before testing. That is the window period. During these 3 months u would only be found negative

  • @ancientastronautt: There is a window period, but you don't have to wait 3 months to get tested. See a doctor & get tested & follow their instructions. Watch our vid "Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" for more information about the window period.

  • I had unprotected sex two weeks ago, two days after that I started to feel guilty and blamed my self for the stupid thing I had done. the next day I found a rash on my arm and told myself that I'm infected. the next day, swollen throat and lymph nodes. I took an oral test immediately and was negative. My worries still continued and although the initial rash had gone away the next day after my negative result I started to notice new rashes on my chest and torso. A blood test showed negative again

  • please help me. i had unprotected few weeks ago and recently i notice some red rash on my tight, i know rash can very on color of skin and so on, does HIV rash comes out one or two at the time? how long does it last? i have these two rashes on my tight for few days now, but i dont feel any other symptoms, does rash come out all spread or is it like the ones i have one or two? or does it come in a great portion of the body?

  • i was testet 11 days after sex. when i got the results there was no sings of hiv infection. but i am going to be tested again 25 days after sex. and then 3 months after. so i hope its gonna be negtive

  • After watching this video, I was scared and panic! I had Oral Sex with my partner 7 days ago, no Anal Sex. Could I still have been infected with HIV? He says he's 80% clean. We're both guys. I'm really scared. I want to get tested but where? I know in a clinic or hospital but how much will it cost? Please someone help I'm really scared!

  • @eve147258369: This is Eric. Go to HIVtest dot org and put in your ZIP code if you're in the U.S. to find a free testing center near you. Follow their instructions.

  • can you get this from swimming in a six flags wave pool? does chlorine kill the hiv? common question

  • @12345ificationbarney: This is Eric. You can't get HIV from swimming in a pool. Yes, chlorine kills HIV.

  • @TheRealBillyIrons: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Follow your doctor's instructions for retesting and everything else. Watch our video "What's the Risk I Contracted HIV?" for more information.

  • @TheRealBillyIrons: Get tested and follow doctor's instructions for follow-up testing. Watch our vid "The Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" for more info.

  • THERE A CURE NOW FOR HIV 'TIMOTHY RAY BROWN' WAS CURED

  • @noelmaster1: It's true that "Berlin Patient" Timothy Ray Brown was effectively cured of HIV. But this was done by means of a bone marrow transplant from a donor who had a mutation conferring natural resistance to HIV. (About 1% of Europeans have this mutation IIRC.) The bone marrow transplant procedure has about a 30% risk of death. This is far higher than the risk of death for HIV itself, if treated correctly, during the same time period.

  • @noelmaster1: So bone marrow transplant from an HIV-resistant donor can only be done for patients who, like Timothy Ray Brown, have ANOTHER condition besides HIV (in his case, advanced leukemia) whose risk of death is greater than 30%. So bone marrow transplant is unfortunately not a viable cure for people who only have HIV.

  • Yo, I have had a fever that lasted for a couple of hours, headaches lasting for about a day, nausea lasting for about 2, night sweats, no swollen lymph nodes, a rash breackout on my elbows and knees which lasted for about a couple of hours... all of its gone though before the week was gone except the night sweats and this dark urine... is the color of urine affected by HIV?

Regardless, I'mma get tested. Shame how one night can make you lose your mind in regrets... I only had sex once and look.

  • I have written a new and true and powerful book about one person and hiv. A book like no other. It is called WHY ME?

  • When I got tested for the first time, when the doctor checked my blood pressure I was literally in the clouds. I made an excuse and told the doctor that high blood pressure runs in the family lol. I was so freakin' scared. But this is what I find that's funny about the ones who are nervous. We tend to link (google every symptom), and we have a few (due to anxiety/stress) and the ones that freak out are the ones who actually negative. Practice safe sex folks. Use a plastic bag if you have to. Lol

  • @MrAUFANATIC: Good job on overcoming your anxiety and getting tested! You are a model for others and you have considerable self-awareness as well!

  • i just got tested last week and thank you jesus my test came back negative ppl please just be safe i've only had unprotected sex with one person for the last 5, 6 years which is my childs father but you never can be too sure so thats why i got tested ppl dont be scared its always better to be safe than sorry

  • Can i it be passed by oral sex ? She was an escort

  • @jaggass: Yes. See our vid "Some Ways You Can Contract HIV and the Risk of Each One."

  • fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes are symptoms of alot of things lol, so every time i get these symptoms i should ask my doctor if i have aids?

  • @marlonmurrell: Watch the video again. It clearly answers that question. If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, you should get tested.

  • Disease>HIV

Signs and Symptoms>May or may not be signs and symptoms in early stage. Late-contact stage symptoms may include fever, fatigue, diarrhea, skin rashes, night sweats, loss of appetite, swollen lymph glands, significant weight loss, white spots in the mouth or vaginal discharge (signs of yeast infection) and memory or movement problems.

Mode of Transmission>Direct and possibly indirect

Infective Material>Blood, semen, vaginal fluid, breast milk

  • @ema1171224

if you just have headache and nausea...? is this enough

  • @TheCarolynAnderson: See a doctor and get tested to be safe.

  • How long can hsv 1 live outside of the body for?

  • @2Warlock4You: On a dry surface, only for a very short time. If it's within bodily fluids (like wet blood), longer.

  • PLEASE HELP!!!!! ok so im 14 years old i had sex for the first time on new years. Two or three weeks later i got the flu for a week, a month later i got sore throat for like 2 days. Since then i havent had any symtoms. Im afraid to get tested beacuse i dont want my parents to know that i had sex at this age. What should i do?? can i possibly have HIV???

  • @rickwilliam95 ask a hospital if you can get tested without the permission of your parents

  • @rickwilliam95: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. I don't know the laws about parental notification in your area, but in most places you can go to an STD clinic and get tested anonymously for HIV. If they demand a name, you always have the option of telling them a made-up name to preserve your privacy. See a doctor and get tested to be safe. Consider talking to your parents about sex; consider waiting until you're older to have further sexual activity.

  • If you are a male and have sex with a HIV positive female, its less than 0,05% chanse you got it. Dont forget that fact...

  • @TaipeDiep

    Why is that?

  • can I get HIV if I watch porn movies

  • Pleas everyone listen to this message, I know two people who have the Virus , one of them has a bf now they wear a condom everytime they have sex and her partner never contracted the Virus ( which he has been tested many times) and one of my mates had unsafe sex in a club and contracted HIV. Please have safe sex use a condom it can safe ur Life !!!!! (My thoughts go out to the people who have the Virus)

  • @ combatfoot your odds of infection are very low. The only way possible is if you or him was born with hiv from infected parents or has used needles. I nailed this broad who apparently was dirt, dont know re: hiv status. Was scared, but tested negative 3 times. I remember condoms now simply because its a scary fact of modern life. Hope that helps

  • It was like flu x 10. Mouth sores so painfull I couldn't eat. Lasted about 9 days. a week later, a strange rash came and went in one day. I knew this was not the usual cold or flu.

  • Ok High risk behavior Anal sex Sharing needles any form of oral but the risk is low since the virus does not live in mouth and once air hits it dies. Any form of vaginal sex. Always wear a rubber with partners get tested then get married, Lets face it its too dangerous to have multiple partners. Plus there are other diseases that are also very uncomfortable.

  • if you have an HIV rash will it spread when scratched and will benadryl make it go away? I had a rash on two separate occasions, once in October and again around Christmas. The more I scratched the more it spread, I took benadryl and within an hour it was gone

  • @DiamondsGlow87: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. See a doctor about any and all medical concerns. Get tested for HIV to be safe regardless of whether or not your rash has anything to do with HIV.

  • @DiamondsGlow87 Why do we have it all wrong? Am i the only one who thinks Science got a bad attidude towards viruses?

    1) It is called an STV not an STD.

Sexually transmitted Virus not a disease. When you see many bumps on someones hands its not a virus they are heat sores or acne or what, Its caused by the stress hormones and histamines. Heated blood causes the skin organ to change that's all.

  • Hi Dr Becky, thank u for the info. I have a big concern. on 3/2/11 i got a paper cut in the office. the next day, i shook hand with a patient who was HIV/AIDS+ i had forgot about my paper cut in my index finger from a day before. According to other resources, hiv is also found in mocuos membrane, nose. He was sickhe had a cold,so i:m sure he was blowing his nose am I a risk. is 3/12/11 now i have a lot of gas in my stomach loud noises grawling for 3 days now, no pain. I have a sore throat! Thanks

  • I"m scared, i shook a patient's hand who was hiv/aids positive. I got a paper cut a day before, the next day i shook his hand. it was on 3/4/11 now i"m sick with a sore throat, sneezing hand have had dearrhea for 2 days, very little,my stomach sounds like i have cats fighting inside, it been 5 days now.

  • My friend is 13 and lets just say we did something.See he is 13 and im 14 he has never had sex and i never eithier. Can one of us have aids?In oral sex?

  • can someone get HIV from a nail scratched ? bc my friend scratched me and i started to bleed,

  • I think drs should suggest tests to everyone where appropriate.

The stigma will diminish and we will all get over our preconceived notions that it wont affect us because we aren't in the high risk groups.

The infection rates are climbing and yet less funding is given to help support the sufferers.

I now personally know 3 people who are HIV+ (others have also passed away)

Get tested - take control of your life.

  • i dnt use a condam ive had sex wif over 30 girls and i never used a condam and u no why? well they were all virgins aanyway except for maybe two or three but they werent lesbeans or anything and u know im not a homo so i dont have aids

  • if someone has HIV don't they take a whole load of different meds?

  • @DiamondsGlow87: They may not take any medications at all initially while their CD4 count remains high. Once their CD4 count falls below 550 or they get an opportunistic infection, they still may take as little as one pill a day (such as Atripla).

  • yeah!

    40 - 90 % is kind of large of a difference

  • @chinesep1mp: Yes. It would be incredibly expensive to conduct a study starting with a large number of HIV- people, track them all over time, to correctly identify those who became HIV+ in a timely fashion, and to reliably determine the precise period of their primary HIV infection and whether they experienced symptoms. Therefore, we wind up with estimates that have a wide range.

  • I had so many symptoms, rash, sores in mouth, sore muscles, swollen lymph nodes etc then got tested 4 months afterwards, thank god it was negative. However, to post this comment I've had to pause the video at 0:00 because the first time I watched it, it scared me beyond belief, I'm sure many of you watching it know the utter fear and feeling of helplessness I'm talking about. I was convinced I had it. I still can't bring myself to watch it again. Get tested, chances are you'r just overly anxious

  • @megatajikistan2 Did you have night sweats, fever, and rash??? Man, never believe a chick that says she ain't got shit. Hope she's right and hope all of these symptoms are coming from the smoke in the air and the late and early mornings plus stress from class and shit. smh. freakin terrified.

  • @theFULLEST That don't sound like it's HIV. If anything it's Hepatitis C. Half of the symptoms you named sounds like anxiety/stress related. Stress can also produce sweats, a rash (known as stress hives), and NO, HIV doesn't affect urine. Calm down, I was in the same situation. I had a few sweats here and there, stress hives, nausea, and headaches due to stress. Even though everybody's immune system is not the same but the symptoms you name falls into the stress category. But get test anyways.

  • @megatajikistan2 Thank You. I had protected sex recently but I've experienced a slight sore throat and swollen lymph nodes in the jaw and neck area. I'm undergoing extreme anxiety right now. I hope I am overreacting.

  • i give up sex forever....

  • is it possible to get these symptoms 2 days after having sex?

  • Two questions here. Please answer ASAP. First, what is the risk of HIV transmission through oral sex? Second, what is the HIV rash like? I had unprotected sex briefly with someone about 4 weeks ago. By briefly I mean it was probably less than 30 seconds before I stopped. Before that I had received oral sex. I had a sore throat about a week later, with a fever and cough. That stopped and now I have a small rash on my chest, which is a bunch of small red marks. It covers a pretty small area.

  • @amantha03: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. See our videos "Some Ways You Can Contract HIV and the Risk of Each One" and "What's the Risk I Have Contracted HIV?" See a doctor and get tested for HIV.

  • @AIDSvideos I have been experiencing muscle and joint pain for the last 3 weeks and 2 days

and i had a swollen lymph nodes (groin area left side only ) for just a day, for about 3 weeks ago...

i am doubt that i have contracted HIV because in our community(La Union, Philippines) we had a total of 723,189 population and the total hiv infected are only 30 most male i never had sex with a male before

what could be wrong with me?

  • @wapakQu: See a doctor. Ask them.

  • Ok, here is my case. And i kno i should just go get tested but i dont wanna get into that yet. Im pretty scared... about two weeks ago i had sex with this girl but until two days ago i started getting a sore throat and now this little white bumps starting growing at the back of my tong (At the really end) not in my throat. Please someone replay im really depressed and worried.

  • @xTheLaTiNx: Go to a doctor, describe your symptoms, and get tested for HIV while you're there. Follow the doctor's instructions including for any follow-up testing. Watch our vids "Is Being HIV Positive a Death Sentence?" and "Top Ten Reasons to Take an HIV Test." Don't stress in the meantime; just get tested and follow the doctor's instructions.

  • @xTheLaTiNx that could be something else .. no worries .

  • Using symptoms alone is unreliable to determine whether you're infected. The only way of knowing is getting an HIV test. So if you done something risky, then go get tested! Stop scaring people with stupid symptoms which could just be ordinary flu.

  • @dd8721: That's why the video says: "If you have one or more of these symptoms, does it necessarily mean you are infected with HIV? No. Many common diseases can cause one or more of these symptoms. For example, most people with a fever or sore throat are probably just experiencing common illnesses such as the cold, influenza, or mononucleosis. So don’t panic. But .... see a doctor and ask to be tested for HIV."

  • @ILustForMystery: People in love often feel a desire to have unprotected sex. If one or both partners are HIV+, they must resist that desire in order to protect their partner.

  • @ILustForMystery: Unfortunately, there is often a desire for unprotected sex in that situation for emotional reasons that conflict with the rational considerations of preventing the transmission of HIV.

  • uummm what if u never had sex can u still get it? im only 14 and i have some of these symptoms. do i have it?

  • @raicaster: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. If you are having symptoms of illness, see a doctor, describe your symptoms, and let the doctor diagnose you. The most common ways that HIV is transmitted OTHER than sex include: sharing needles when injecting drugs; from mother-to-child during pregnancy, childbirth, or nursing; or (very rarely these days) blood transfusions in developing countries where blood is not tested as it should be. Anyone worried they have HIV should get tested.

  • @raicaster: CDC recommends that all people age 13-64 be tested for HIV at a routine doctor's office visit. Remember that symptoms of primary HIV infection can be caused by many things OTHER than HIV as well, as the video says.

  • Hi. I have a question... I'm not sure but I touched dry blood at my school today and I didn't get any on my hands (since it was dry) and I just want to know if you can get HIV from dry blood? I didn't have any cuts on my han. But before I knew I touched the dry blood, I think I wiped my mouth with my hand. I think I did. Now I had chapped lips today, so will I get it? I'm really scared. I'm only 16 and this shouldn't happen to me!

  • @UnexplainedDirge: This is Eric, I'm not a doctor, and it's not my role to tell people over the Internet that they personally have definitely not been exposed to HIV. Generally speaking, HIV will "die" on a dry surface within 10 minutes or less. So if the blood has been out of the body long enough to dry completely, any HIV within it should be "dead." AVERT web site says "the real risk of HIV infection from dried bodily fluids is probably close to zero." Dried blood CAN transmit other diseases.

  • @AIDSvideos Thank you. But I'm fine. It didn't even look like blood. I worry too much.

  • @AIDSvideos Plus it's a big chance that the person may not be infected. I washed my hands 10 times after that anyway.

  • @AIDSvideos

Can you contract hiv if you touch some one else saliva.

I had broken skin on finger but not bleeding & the saliva was clear with no blood in there.

    Please help.

  • @AIDSvideos Can hiv pass through cracked skin or broken skin.

Their was no bleeding as the broken skin is not a fresh cut.

But i touched a bit of some one else saliva with my broken skin finger.

    Help please.

Did not see visible blood in saliva.

  • @Tamasha1: This is Eric, I'm not a doctor, and it's not my role to tell people over the Internet that they personally have definitely not been exposed to HIV. Too many complicated issues on this question. Broken skin does NOT provide a barrier against infection. Saliva is not generally considered to pose a risk of HIV transmission, but that's not normally discussed in context of broken skin. Call CDC National Prevention Information Network toll free hotline and ask them.

  • Is it possible for someone to love u if u have AIDS/ HIV?

  • @ILustForMystery: Of course!

  • Comment removed

  • @drwesalafg: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. No one can determine your HIV status by texting you over the Internet. Go to a doctor, get tested for HIV, follow their instructions including for follow-up testing, and don't stress out in the meantime. Watch our vids "What's the Risk I Have Contracted HIV?" and "Some Ways You Can Contract HIV and the Risk of Each One" and "The Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" for more. Go to AIDSvideos site and click "Risk."

  • Can hiv pass through cracked skin or broken skin.

Their was on bleeding as the broken skin is not a fresh cut.

But i touched a bit of some one else saliva with my broken skin thumb.

    Help please.

Did not see visible blood in saliva.

  • i only have one question, if someone is hiv positive then im pretty sure it means they have HIV right.

now my question is, if you wear a condom and are active with your partner, could you still come in contact with the virus, or is there a high risk level to end up having HIV?

  • @vortex9432: Condoms used correctly every time for every sex act GREATLY REDUCE your risk of transmitting or contracting HIV but do not completely eliminate it. If you use the condom correctly every time for every act, you can reduce the risk to a very low level. In the Padian study of heterosexual married couples with one HIV+ and one HIV-, among the couples who used condoms every time, there were no HIV transmissions during the study. See our vid "The Importance of Condom Compliance" for more.

  • The end of HIV has arrived: go to youtube.com/user/SeriousHIVprevention for details and PSA.

    The POZ CODE (P4P) HIV+ 4 HIV+

  • im also scared because: I know im 14.. and i know it was a major mistake but i gave, a recieved oral sex... now I only have 2 of those symthoms : minor rash and a sore throat/swollen lymph nodes. Im not so sure what it is exactly: I have pimple like things around my throat as my mom describes it... I dont want to tell my mom to have me tested because I dont want to lose this girl.. i really like her but im scared on what i have. Im stuck between loving this girl or getting myself tested..

  • @plugger543: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. See a doctor, describe your symptoms, and follow their instructions. In addition to HIV you need to consider the possibility of other things e.g. oral gonorrhea. I encourage you to talk honestly with your parents. But if you're not willing to do that, you can go on your own to a public health clinic and they will test you for HIV for free. Or ask you mother to take you to the doctor and when you're there say you'd like to talk alone with the doctor.

  • @plugger543 no hiv can not be passed thru spit. Unless they had an open scar in their mouth then yeah.

  • @plugger543 hey go u have to make diagnos u will lose ur life instead of ur girl

  • @plugger543 hey go u have to make diagnose u will lose ur life instead of ur girl

  • @plugger543 so whatever happen to u? u got tested?

  • Im only 14... and i have a rash and my throat has: pimple like things around my throat as my mom describes it.. is it possible its just mono or?

  • I got a question. A few months ago I got an HIV test. It was negative. Now I got a dry cough that lasted for 2 weeks and when the cough is gone I got rash starting to appear on my face. Does that mean I have HIV?

  • @DaveSketch: Only a doctor can diagnose HIV or other conditions. See a doctor. Describe your symptoms. Follow their instructions.

  • Last week I was in chemistry class and me and my group found a metal wire and I have no idea why but we burnt ourselves with the wire. I don't believe any blood got on to the wire but is there a chance I am HIV+ ? I'm only fifteen and am freaking out. Please help.

  • @mtreybal: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Watch our video "What's the Risk I Have Contracted HIV?" Go to AIDSvideos site and click the "Risk" link. You could only contract HIV from your friend if they had already contracted HIV themselves. Have any of your friends contracted HIV? Even then, you'd have to have body fluids exchanged. If the wire was hot enough to burn your skin, it might have been hot enough to sterilize any viruses or fluids on it. Talk to your school nurse if you're worried.

  • @AIDSvideos I asked them and they all said that they do not have aids but i'm not 100% sure that they know.. And yes it does make sense that the heat of the flame would sterilize the wire. I believe I might go in for a blood test just to be sure but the idea does make sense that it was sterilized. I cant thank you enough for your help.

  • @mtreybal: Getting tested for HIV is always a good idea, especially for anyone who things they might have been exposed. CDC recommends ALL adults age 13-65 get tested at a routine doctor's office visit. By the way, you probably won't even need to have blood drawn. If you're in the U.S., the first screening test for HIV is usually done with an oral swab.

  • @AIDSvideos well i believe i will go get testd to be safe.. Thank you soo much

  • hey i ejaculated first and then inserted my penis in my friends vagina, after an intercourse of only 40-60 seconds i ejaculated outside again. Is that period sufficient or also after 2 weeks of the intercourse i got an HIV test. The results said it was non reactive. Is there any chance of me getting infected.

  • @abirchatty: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. Yes, the possibility for HIV transmission exists with any genital-genital contact. Follow your doctor's instructions for follow-up testing. It can take time for a person who has contracted HIV to get an HIV+ test result. See our video "The Top Ten Questions About HIV Tests" for more.

  • @abirchatty why do you cum so quick?

  • I heard it is easier for women to get HIV from men than vice versa beacuse the women receives the sexual fluid from men. Is that true??

  • @DanJZero: It is true that it is easier for women to contract HIV from men than the reverse. One reason is that in heterosexual sex, the woman's body has a larger area of mucous membranes (the vagina, etc.) that is exposed to the man than the area of the man's mucous membranes (e.g. the urethra) that is exposed to the woman. There may be other reasons but that's one cause.

  • Can you get HIV from oral sex?

  • @elsalvadorplaya: Yes. See our vid "Some Ways You Can Contract HIV and the Risk of Each One."

  • Thank you for being so kind as to share your expertises with us. We should be most obliged if you would very much mind uploading a video about the differences in the statistically estimated risks of transmissibility associated with different roles and practices. How far is one mode of behaviour statistically riskier than another? Many thanks in advance.

  • @youngversatilewiga: See our video "Some Ways You Can Contract HIV and the Risk of Each One."

  • You can ask all the questions you want on YouTube and all the little blog sites. You can watch as many of these videos as you want. You can even try to self diagnose yourself but the only way to know for sure whether or not you have HIV is to go get tested!

  • Is it possible to get numerous symptoms individually over say, a span of 6 months or so? Because, i've had a lot of those in the last year or so.

  • @apollodesign: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor. See a doctor, describe your symptoms and risk factors for HIV, get tested for HIV, and follow the doctor's instructions.

  • AFTER this im soo scare about having sex and im only 15( im a boy 2 . . . )

  • lol..its like every symptom know to man..ha ha

  • "go to the hospital!" is enough for this blah blah blah

  • Fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes, etc.. Do you have any idea how many diseases and or other such ailments also have the same symptoms? It's like... all of them. Really the only thing you should be doing is GOING TO A DOCTOR and GET TESTED.

  • hey doctor how long it will take to Symptoms of HIV to appear

  • @slimzeexxx HIV can even creep up with no symptoms at all. You can be infected with HIV and not even know it.

  • @musicgirl999 I KNOW BUT IF U NEVER HAD SEX THEN DONT WORRY . .

  • @ziggerification: Remember that sharing needles can also spread HIV.

  • @AIDSvideos i know but if a suck a male **** and she has hiv can the male get it ?

  • @ziggerification: I believe you are asking the following: if a woman performs oral sex on a man, can the man contract HIV? The answer is yes. Oral sex can transmit HIV in either direction. Watch our video "Some Ways HIV You Can Contract HIV and Their Risks" for details.

  • @AIDSvideos yes i Am and whats the BEST AGE TO HAVE SEX ?

  • @ziggerification: Studies show that the older you are when you have sex for the first time, the fewer total lifetime partners you will have, and the lower your risk of problems like STDs or an unplanned pregnancy will be. So one answer is "the later, the better." Some people even choose to wait until marriage to have sex for many reasons including ensuring they don't contract an STD and bring that into the marriage.

  • @AIDSvideos true

  • Every night I pray to God that they may find a cure to this terrible disease.

  • WTF? most of these symptoms are common for most all things? Why in the hell do ppl make these kinda videos? If u really think u might have aids or hiv, does someone actually have to tell ppl to go to the damn doctor and y would they come to youtube first???? LOL

  • @XxXmadchickenXxX: See a doctor, get tested for HIV, and follow their instructions.

  • I've been sneezing lately and i have rashes earlier with small dots, And sometimes after i wake up in the morning my body aches. Can i contract HIV even though i never had sex with someone?

  • @jomirujomiru: This is Eric; I'm not a doctor; I cannot and am not giving you any interpretation of the symptoms you're describing. See a doctor and get tested for HIV and follow the doctor's instructions. It is possible to contract HIV by means other than sex.
