He says that they (Simple Minds) got it wrong about writing the Mandela song 20 years ago as they thought that all the performing bands were supposed to write a song for the event, but it turned out that this wasn't the case. More like the other bands couldn't be bothered! SM were more genuine about the causes they supported than many bands, and SM should have had more credit at this concert as they played such an important part in the original.
VH1 didn't play Mandela Day & chopped DYFAM! They chopped up Queen excluding The Show Must Go On! VH1 pix quality was poor. MusicHD also aired it w/ great pix quality! Sad to think MTV/VH1 dominate music & show poor quality; they shove us music they want us to buy as if we do like Elvira Winehouse! So much censorship in land of the free-they wouldn't want us to get any ideas from those Europeans listening to their music! We can see war news 24/7 but music which makes people happy, no!
Their Mandela performance of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" was electrifying. I can't believe ITV didn't include it in the televised version of the concert. Epic.
Fantastic interview. Thanks for posting. The band were fantastic at Mandela last night. Killer version of Mandela Day, and Don't You got the crowd on their feet. Thanks Jim!!!!!
No way better than you!! :D I love you!

Jim Kerr is a perfect example of the fact that talent and humility are not mutually exclusive.

Good point actually their humility helps them to constantly improve themselves to rise above and keep a critical perspective on what they do.

Absolutely. And I think that has been the key to their success,
longevity, and to being such an influential band.
