@CrewRite My employer does regular business with the shop in question so I don't want to make too much of a scene. And I'm not out any money. If they took money and handed me a box of parts it'd be a whole different story and you bet I'd file a complaint.

That's how hard a shop is trying to look for some cash. They would cheat customers. It happens so many in a developed countries who think civilians has no more knowledge about repairing. That's a very sad story. But you're challenging enough to save it.
