A month's pay says that if Republicans regain the House the only spending they'll attempt to cut will be the funding for the regulatory agencies. The IRS in particular. It worked for Phil Gramm in 1998 when he gutted funding for the IRS and they had to lay off all the higher salary auditors who specialized in high income tax returns.

Conservatives don't have to vote for higher taxes. There's not going to be legislation for higher taxes. The Bush tax cuts are set to expire, and Obama and the Democrats will extend those tax cuts for everyone except the top bracket. The top bracket will be reset to 39.6%. This is not anything that's going to be voted on. This will happen automatically. Wtf is Dick Morris talking about?

Morris is also wrong when he says that Obama "locked in" spending. The big spending that Repubs are all talking about is the stimulus package, which is not at all locked in. It's discretionary. Obama has never indicated that he would lobby to keep those levels of spending, because he can't. It's not mandatory stuff. There are only three big ticket items you can cut in the budget. SocSec, MedCare, and Defense. Of these, only Defense is discretionary. Who gets cut first?

I believe he's talking about the top tax bracket (what billionaires pay, the majority of our country's income), and it's going from 35%-40%. In the 50's & 60's, that same tax bracket used to pay around 90% in taxes.

If you actually care about the deficit, it's going to decrease it.

if you buy into the theory that the top 2% are economic Gods who create jobs out of charity (even though no evidence supports that), then you'd be upset about this.
