I would have to admit that I never expected a one minute clip of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" would bring so much racial tension among blacks and whites. This march was moreso about bring social injustices to light than it was about the Jena 6. This march was not about who is more racist! There are two questions I have regarding this-Why are some white people threatened by movements for change which bring their ignorance to light? Why do blacks continually start movements and give up on them?

Gang beaten? If I recall the child was discharged and attended a party hours later. Yes. punishment is needed but not jail time, this was a provoked school fight. These children were subjected to the ultimate forms of racism and hatred and they are children who lashed out. Yes their actions were inappropriate and deserve punishment but I think they have suffered enough jail time, lets not forgot how long they sat in jail. Lets let them get on with their lives

I agree the punishments handed down were ridiculous, but these 6 black men should all go to jail for assault. No racism, just punish them, throw them in jail for less than 5 years each, and be done. NOBODY should be beaten in school as bad as that white kid was, NOBODY. If I were the father of that kid I would kill all 6 of those kids. I agree there was racism in sentencing though.

I guess the crimes the whites have been raining down on blacks in that town doesn't matter. If the white kid was beaten so badly why did he go to a party in the same evening of that SAME day? No one should go to jail for a fight. It's just ridiculous. People fight all the time and unfortunately people get ganged all the time, which that boy deserved to be since he tried to make the blacks life at the school a living hell.

umm ok abdul...i dont think anyone is saying that these 6 young men shouldnt have been punished..the issue was the punishment fair...attempted murder??? common on now...and what about the white kids who beat up some black kids earlier that semester...what was their punishment? and the whole issue of hanging a noose and the principal passing it off as a prank??

The issue was that these black kids were not treated the same way as their white counterparts!!! so yes it is racism and injustice in my eyes! And that town already had rising racial tensions...and if u read some of the distasteful comments here...u will see racism is still very much alive!!
